THE CABIN WAS SPACIOUS, WELL LAID OUT, BEAUTIFUL INSIDE, AND WONDERFUL OUTSIDE ESPECIALLY WITH ALL OF THE SNOW. THE GRANDCHILDREN HAD A GREAT TIME. I BELIEVE THE HOTTUB WAS THEIR OVERALL FAVORITE. THEY WERE ABLE TO GO DOWN SLED RUNS FOR A LONG DISTANCE. THE OWNERS HAVE NOT POSTED ONE COMMENT ABOUT THEIR PLACE THAT WAS NOT TRUE. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO RETURNING TO THIS CABIN. QUIETNESS WAS SO APPRECIATED. THANK YOU. DALE NUTTLE

Owner response:Dale and Family, Great Renters and Super nice people. Thanks for renting from me. AAA+++ renters. They left the rental in great shape. We work hard to keep Great Pines Guest House, LLC. clean and comfortable for all who visit us. We work hard to accomodate special requests also. Great property, great house, and great vacation. House is everything and more as described. We used the hot tub all the time, cooked, did laundry, lounged, etc.. So, so much nicer than a motel or cabins that are available in the area. Custer is a nice town with everything you want or need and a fabulous location in the black hills. We had 4 adults a 12 and 14 year old. Everyone had a great time, one of the best family trips we have had. Would highly recommend the wild horse sanctuary as it was everyones favorite. Also make sure you drive the wildlife loop. We did this several times and saw all kinds of animals including Big horn sheep. Lots of things to do and see in the area. When we were there some of the attractions were closed and still had more than enough to do. the best part was no crowds. 5 stars across the board for the home, the property, and the location.

Owner response:Brian, Family and Friends, You are Wonderful renters and Super Nice People. I hope you come back again. You get an AAA++ rating. Thank you for renting from me. Susan There are always a lot of things to do and see in the Black Hills. Great Pines Guest House, LLC. is centrally located to Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore and many other attractions in the Hills. We work hard to maintain and keep the rental clean.

Date of Stay: 10/09/11 Review Submitted: 10/13/11

Arriving Sunday Oct 9, 2011, we easily found the home. It was the nicest facility we have rented in our 15 yrs plus. The house was very neat and clean, lots of bedding, towels, fully loaded kitchen with paper towels, soap for the dishwasher, hand and wash soap. On and on. We used the hot tub every nite and sometimes during the day. We highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the Mt Rushmore area.

Owner response:Super Renters, they are welcomed back anytime. I give them a AAAA+++ rating. We pride ourselves on the quality of the property. We keep it spotless and keep stocking anything our renters suggest. We strive to be the Best in the West. We want all of our Guests to have the best possible stay here.

Just What We Needed!

Guest: Gina (Arlington, Texas)
Date of Stay: 09/16/11 Review Submitted: 11/10/11

This review comes better late than never! My parents, husband and I spent the week in Custer and enjoyed every minute of it. Sue and Brad are wonderful hosts and their hospitality was appreciated! Everyday was a new adventure: Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Lead/Deadwood, Devil's Tower, Keystone. We would put the crockpot on in the morning leave for the day to sight see and come home to a wonderful meal. Everything you could possibly want to cook with, watch TV/movies, or relax was totally available to you at The Great Pines Lodge. This was our first VRBO experience and I think Sue & Brad have set the bar high for our next experience. There is a lot to be said when you can stay at someone's home and see how immaculate & clean everything is! Thank you Sue & Brad...until you make it back down to Ft. Worth, take care.

Great Rental Home

Guest: Larry (Michigan)
Date of Stay: 09/05/11 Review Submitted: 09/15/11

We spent 11 nights in Susan’s Custer vacation rental, and we enjoyed everything about it. It is located on a huge lot that provides peace, quiet, and total privacy. The home is very spacious, with an open floor plan, and it was stocked with everything we needed. It was also immaculately clean. Everything in the home operates perfectly. We enjoyed the large TV and the wireless Internet. Deer and wild turkeys were regular visitors to the property. We used the vacation home as a base for our travels all around the area. Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park are just a few minutes away, and they both offer beautiful scenery as well as spectacular animal viewing. These parks are a photographer’s paradise. (Go early morning and before dusk for the best chance of seeing large herds of bison, pronghorn antelope, and for the best light). We also took longer rides to Spearfish Canyon, The Badlands National Park and into Wyoming to visit Devil’s Tower National Park. This entire area is even more interesting and beautiful than we had hoped. We were completely happy with this rental, and we will reserve it again when we return to this area.

Owner response:Thank you for renting from me. It was so nice to meet you. Please come back! I would rent to them anytime. AAAAA+ renters. We always try to make our Guests feel Welcome and Comfortable. Sugestions are always Welcome. If you have any Special requests, just let us know and we will try to accomodate all who stay here at Great Pines Guest House. We work hard to keep the rental Immaculate and do upgrades as much as possible. Please check us out.

Perfect Family Vacation In This Well-Equipped and Wonderfully Maintained Home.

Guest: Fred and Kathy (Kansas City, Missouri)
Date of Stay: 07/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/17/11

We just returned with our 3 teenage kids from a wonderful week at Great Pines Guest House. The owners have paid special attention to set this home up for a perfect vacation. It is very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The technology package is wonderful including the tv's, Netflix, computer station, etc... The kitchen is well-equipped and ready for cooking. The kitchen appliances are very nice, as are the large washer and dryer. The jetted tub in one of the bathrooms and the 6-person hot tub under the gazebo lends itself to much relaxation. We also enjoyed eating, deer watching, and relaxing with our kids on the spacious deck. We have rented homes in private locations such as this one all over the country as we vacation with our kids. This home is certainly one we would come back to again. Thank you to these wonderful owners for sharing their slice of heaven with us. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Owner response:Thank you for your stay at Great Pines Guest House! I would rent to this family anytime. What a Wonderful family. Please come back again. All my Best to You. I give this family an AAA+++ rating. Thanks again, Susan Here at Great Pines Guest House we work very hard to make everyone's vacation a great experience. If you have special requests, we do our very best to accomodate them. We live over the hill from the rental so we can personnally meet and attend to our Guests needs.

Great vacation

Guest: Irena G.
Date of Stay: 07/01/11 Review Submitted: 07/15/11

My family rented the property for 9 days. The listing description regarding the location, layout and amenities was accurate. The house was spacious, clean and well-maintained. Susan (the owner) was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. We saw deer almost every day around the house. The place was very peaceful. We used the BBQ grill few times and really enjoyed having diner on the big back deck. The washer/dryer were an added plus as well the Internet connection. Our children liked the big screen TV in the living room. We felt like we were at home - we had all we needed plus beautiful sceneries and crispy clean air. During our stay there we went horseback riding, fishing and hiking. We visited Jewel Cave, Keystone, Rapid City and drove through the breathtaking Spearfish Canyon. We had a great vacation and we would definitely stay at this guest house again.

Owner response:What a Wonderful Family! I sure enjoyed visiting with them. I had great fun showing them some of the lakes in Custer State Park where I used to fish. I love to show people around the hills and help in any way I can. Please be sure to come back. I give this family an AAAA+++ rating to rent to. Thanks Again! Susan

This property is exactly as described, or maybe even more spectacular than we invisioned! We rate this house a 10! Our daughters enjoyed it so much, they just wanted to stop going to tourist sites and get HOME! Our adult daughter as well as our teen daughter really enjoyed the hot tub! It became a family routine every evening and provided great family time & conversation @ the end of the day. It's a great location within 15 minutes of Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Needles Hwy & Custer State Park. Very quiet & serene. The house had EVERYTHING we needed! Even a crockpot & juice pitcher! The washer/dryer & computer were also a pleasant plus! The owner was extremely nice & helpful and made sure all our needs were provided for. I would work my vacation plans around the available dates for this home again!

Owner response:Thank you so mcuh for renting from me. I would give this family a AAAAA+++ rating for staying with me. It was hard to find what to clean when they left because they left the rental so clean and nice. This Family was outstanding!! Please come back and see us again. I would reccomend to anyone to rent to this Family anytime. What a nice Family. Susan

We stayed here for a week and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place to stay! It was just as described in the listing. Very clean, well stocked and just wonderful! Our 3 children (8,6 & 4) loved playing in the yard. We all couldn't wait to get back to the house in the evenings to relax in the hot tub and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We used the grill almost every day and the kitchen was great. We were able to enjoy the big tv as it did rain almost every evening we were there. Having a washer and dryer was a big plus! All in all, I would (and have!) recommend this place to anyone! Our kids have been begging go back next year! It really made our vacation wonderful!! Thank you!!

Owner response:Hi all. Thank you for Staying at Great Pines Guest House. Please come back. I give these folks an AA++ rating. We do our very best to try and make everyone's stay as Wonderful as possible. If you have any Special requests, please give us a Call. Our family stayed there for an extended weekend & the weather did not cooperate, but thankfully, we'd rented this house! There was NetFlix to keep the kids occupied while the parents hit the amazing covered hot tub! I've never sat in a hot tub while it snowed before!! This property has everything you need and is so close to everything! I would highly recommend this home and we WILL be back!! I woke up two mornings to watch the deer grazing not far from the house! How awesome is that?! I'm hoping next year we'll come later in the year to miss the snow:) Thanks Sue & Brad for "lending" us your beautiful place!!

Owner response:Great Renters! Please come back anytime. I really enjoyed visiting with you. They left the rental in great shape and very easy for me to clean. Thanks again. Sue

Date of Stay: 04/02/11 Review Submitted: 04/12/11

The cabin felt like it was brand new. I had everything that I needed plus some. More than enough kitchen items, bath towels, etc to make our stay very nice. Everything was clean and fresh. We were centrally located to all of the national parks, monuments, and other tourist sites in the area. Lots of privacy. Enough room for all three children to run around. Dad had to still do some telecommuting for work and WiFi made it easier. Only down side was that we went just a few weeks early in the season so some of the local restaurants were not open. Buy groceries in Rapid City to make things easier and cheaper.

Owner response:Very nice people. Great renters! They are welcomed back anytime. They really appreciaed that I have plenty of everthing that renters would need to stay. Thanks again

Awesome Christmas

Guest: Jay in Texas (Carrollton, TX)
Date of Stay: 12/19/10 Review Submitted: 12/26/10

What a great week! We arrived on Sunday the week before Christmas. The house was easy to find, and it is close enough to town to get supplies, but far enough away to make for a secluded vacation. Susan had a lighted tree waiting in the living room for the kids and called later that evening to make sure we were ok. It snowed that night, so my wife and I were able to get up before the kids the next morning to soak in the hot tub and watch the snow fall! The house is a short 20-30 minute ride to the attractions we wanted to see: Crazyhorse, Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, and the buffulo in Custer park. We were a little worried about the snow, but the roads were well plowed the whole week (even the one to the house). We had no problem getting anywhere we wanted to go. Each day we headed out for tours after making breakfast, then came home and made dinner. The kitchen equipment was nicely stocked - we made eveything from chicken soup, chinese food, and even buffullo burgers from meat bought in town. There is a general grocery store at the end of town, but amazingly one with more gourmet food called Custer County Market where we purchased some excellent buffullo salami and ground buffullo. The house has an ourdoor grill, but we found a George Foreman grill so we could cook the burgers in-doors. After dinner we played card games on the dinner table, then soaked in the hot tub. The five of us fit with no problem, and there are even cup holders on the sides to hold the medicinal chocolate martinis for the parents (FYI, you can buy alcohol in the grocery store, even on Sundays!) and hot chocolate for the kids. On our last day it snowed again, so we picked up a few sleds at the Pamida in town (mini Walmart) and went sledding behind the house. There is a small ridge with a good slope on the other side. Even my wife and I gave it a few tries, knowing that the hit tub waited to help remove the aches. Overall it was one of the best Chrsitmas trips we have ever had. The house is extremely nice and well situated. The beds were comfortable, with plenty of blankets for snuggling. The only negative comments we could come up with was that some attractions were closed for the season (but there were NO crowds at what was open) and that the internet was a little slow if you are used to big-city high speed (but you didn't really need it, as the house had a lot of the tourist info on the coffe table). We definetly want to come back!

Owner response:Really nice renters. Please come back again! Thanks again! We are working hard to make everyones stay as wonderful as possible. If you have a special request, we will do our best to accomodate you.

Would highly recommend renting this place. The location of this beautiful home is secluded but close to town and tons of attractions! We felt right at home during our stay and enjoyed the frequent visits from the dog. There was so much to see and do but we didn't have time to see it all so we are looking forward to a return visit. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home!

Fantastic Thanksgiving Family Gathering

Guest: Family Gathering Planner (Luverne, Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 11/25/09 Review Submitted: 12/17/09

We contacted the owner initially by e-mail and then by phone. Susan was more than accomodating and easy to work with in scheduling and arranging our family get away, as we had to reach a consensus amongst all of us in Minnesota and Colorado. The location was great for some site-seeing. The home is beautiful, exceptionally clean, well maintained, and equipped with pretty much everything we needed to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for the 6 adults and 3 kids. The laundry set up there was an added plus as well as the internet access for those who wanted to check their e-mail or other things. I look forward to trying to do this again, as if the weather is cooperative (as it was during our stay), it is an extremely enjoyable time to be out in the Black Hills. I would do another stay at this place in a heartbeat! Thank you, Susan!

Our family stayed here for our almost a week during our summer vacation in July 2009. The home is wonderful! Clean, spacious, great layout, well-equipped kitchen, the works! The home is close to town and to all of the major sites - but the lot is so quiet and private, you truly feel like you are miles away from it all! Our whole family enjoyed the hot tub, my husband appreciated the large TV, and my kids (ages 9, 7, and 4) loved playing in the large yard - we saw lots of deer in the mornings and evenings, too! And to top it off, our hostess, Susan, was so sweet and friendly and helpful! We had a fabulous vacation here, and would definitely stay here again if our travels take us back to the Black Hills!

Owner response:Great Renters. Very nice people. I would rent to them whenever they wish to return.

Loved the house, super clean and nice. The Hot tub was a nice retreat after being out all day. Grilling on the deck at night was also a plus. It was very quiet and secluded, could hear the wind through the trees in the morning. It was still close to town so that was great. My husband and 3 small children loved it here and we would defnately stay here again if we were in the area. Close enough to all the sites. Very roomy, cozy and just beautiful! Saw deer in the feild, had a computer, satelite Tv, dish washer, tons of kitchen supplies, washer dryer was God sent. We felt at home! I would highly reccomend this property!

Sue and Brad came down and introduced themselves to us. Within 30 minutes we had hit a wrong button on the TV remote. They came down and got that taken care of in minutes. The house was spotless. The hot tub was great. We enjoyed every evening in the hot tub. I would come back and enjoy this house again. Very clean and the kitchen had everything you could use for cooking big meals. Sue and Brad are great and make sure your stay is worth while.

White Christmas Getaway

Date of Stay: 12/20/08 Review Submitted: 02/06/09

My family & I stayed here over the Christmas Holidays 12-20-08 thru 1-2-09. It was "AWESOME"! We enjoyed the huge home the closeness of town and the peaceful area. We had a White Christmas, built snowmen, sledded, went ice-skating and took a sleigh ride. The owners even accommodated us by purchasing the NFL network just so I could watch the Cowboys play football Saturday night. This was added at no extra cost. They also put up a Christmas tree in the home and Christmas lights on the outside of the house. There are many things to do here in the Black Hills and just not enough time to do them all. This home would hold many people comfortably as we had at least 10 people inside at one time. We would recommend this home to anyone wanting a nice, relaxing and roomy place to stay. We would definitely stay here again. P.S. don't forget to say hi to Lisa. Thanks again.

The house and location were wonderful. We were close to all of the tourist attractions. Brad and Susan were very accommodating and were available when we had questions. We had everything we needed at the house. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you. The Winn's Columbia, MO
