This charming, spacious and sunny apartment with a large terrace and extensive views over the old city and down to the harbour is located in one of historic Lisbon’s most glamorous neighbourhoods – the Chiado.

This is what has always been considered the noblest part of the city, with its quiet streets and squares lined with imposing mansions, museums, churches, art galleries, bookshops, and the odd government ministry. The nearby (less than a minute walk) Praça de Camões and Largo do Chiado (and its cafés Brasileira and Benard) are privileged meeting points for Lisboetas and tourists alike, who are drawn by the impressive concentration of theatres, exclusive shops and high quality restaurants.

The 28 tram stops around the corner from the flat, and it is not much farther to the Bica cable-car (elevador) or the metro. A ten-minute walk down the hill brings you to the Cais do Sodre train station (Estoril-Cascais line) or the ferry for trips across the Tagus.

World-famous theatres such as the Trindade or São Carlos Opera are close by, as is the more exuberant and down-to-earth Bairro Alto neighbourhood, where the streets become narrower and the nightlife more animated. This is the true home of the soulful fado music of old Lisbon, with a wide variety of venues quite literally at your fingertips.

Recently renovated, this large two-bedroom apartment (110 square meteres) is fully furnished and equipped with all the amenities needed to ensure that no matter how short your stay, you will feel very much 'at home' in the heart of the Portuguese capital.

It is located on the third floor (no elevator) of a residential building around the corner from the Ministry of the Economy. The main façade faces east with several large windows opening into the main living room, a smaller sitting room and the master bedroom, while the west façade opens onto the terrace (50 square metres), with direct access through the kitchen or sunroom.

Natural sunlight thus floods the apartment in both morning and afternoon.

The master bedroom has a double bed, while the second bedroom is provided with two single beds. Extra bed linen and towels are available. Baby bed, high chair and other child facilities can be provided on request at no extra charge.

The kitchen is fully equipped and supplied with all the culinary basics (coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and other spices, etc.). If you prefer not to use the cooker, you can always try the barbecue grill on the terrace (charcoal provided).

Supermarket, grocer’s, bakery, newsstand, cafés, hairdressers, banks, etc. are all very close indeed. Also, two covered parking garages are located within 100 metres.

Nearby is the Santa Catarina belvedere, with outstanding views over the harbour, while a short walk through Bairro Alto leads to the pretty Principe Real park, which has a play area for children.

The 28 tram takes about 10 minutes in one direction from the flat to reach the equally romantic Estrêla Garden. In the other direction it passes through the Baixa shopping district before winding through the old neighbourhoods around St. George’s Castle.

  • This is a lovely flat that makes an excellent base from which to enjoy Lisbon. The apartment is spacious, clean, sunny and airy. The terrace is huge and has a great view. Alberto is very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time and would recommend it for an authentic Lisbon experience.

  • A charming flat in a convenient location, Alberto's apartment was everything we could have asked for during our 4-day stay in Lisbon. Clean and modern, his apartment receives lots of natural light. The size of the rooms (2 bedroom, 1 bath) is sufficiently large, allowing the four of us who stayed there to unpack our bags and spread out in every room. The terrace and view to the River are second to none, and - honestly - one of the major reasons we booked this location. The other main reason was the location - within two short blocks of Camoes, and within 1 km of major pedestrian areas downtown, the River, and major traffic arteries and transportation hubs (a taxi stand is loacted at Camoes.) Lots of shopping and eating possibilities within blocks of the flat. And we felt completely safe. For a longer and more intimate stay in Lisbon, Alberto's apartment is definitely the way to go.

  • My husband, teenaged daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this apartment. Quiet yet perfectly located -- steps from the tram and metro, close to a lovely square (Cameos), and within walking distance to everything. Spacious and bright, and the dining area and adjacent deck are huge pluses. Alberto was gracious and generous with recommendations and assistance, including reserving a taxi for our very early flight back on a Sunday morning. This is THE place to stay in Lisbon!

  • Be in Lisbon is always a pleasure ... but to be in Lisbon and feel very comfortable at home is a double pleasure. The house is cozy, warm and very comfortable.   • Siamo strati qualche giorno a casa di Alberto a Lisbona. Io conoscevo gia' la citta' dove ho vissuto molti anni e la localizzazione della casa e' unica, secondo me la zona piu' bella e ben relazionata di tutta la citta. La grande terrazza con vista sul fiume e' poi la ciliegina sulla torta, anche se a gennaio c'e' un po' di freddo per sfruttarla al meglio. La casa e' molto spaziosa e nonostante conservi integralmente l'aspetto e struttura delle case tipiche portoghesi , e' stata ristrutturata con cura ed arredata in modo moderno e molto molto accogliente. Devo dire che rispetto alle mote case in affitto che ho visto finora , questa ha una caratteristica che la distacca nettamente: non sembra una casa in affitto, ovvero la cura e l'amore riposto nella scelta degli arredi e di tutti i dettagli e suppellettili ti fa veramente sentire " a casa tua" e per questo ringrazio molto Alberto che oltre tutto si e' rivelato un ottimo ospite, disponibile , attento e generoso disponibilizzarsi per qualunque nostra esigenza . Torneremo presto....

  • My husband, teenaged son and I stayed in the flat from April 24-May 5. We loved the location as it was very easy to get to places on foot, train, bus and tram. We enjoyed the view from the front windows and especially from the large terrace off the kitchen. The apartment was very sunny, spacious and comfortable. Alberto was very helpful to us, providing us with the use of a local phone, information about local transport and sights, and he booked our taxi to the airport for us. He was kind and easy to deal with. We would rent the flat again if we ever get a chance to return to Lisbon. Thanks Alberto.

  • We just returned from our 5 night stay in Alberto's wonderful apartment. It was sunny & spacious - PLENTY of room for myself, my husband and our 2 teenagers. In addition to being large, the flat is beautifully renovated - the historic details preserved but with all the modern conveniences. The beds & bedding were very comfortable & the kitchen well equiped. The location couln't have been better, close to all the action but on a fairly quiet street, and the views were superb. Alberto was an exelent host, loaning us a local cel phone to use. Also - his recomendations for local cafes & restaurants turned out to be our favorites. We can't wait to return.

  • My wife and I stayed here for two nights after an overnight flight from the U.S. Alberto was an amazing host, and offered us a spare phone until our luggage arrived a day late. This unit is newly renovated, with comfortable beds and great water pressure. The terrace gives amazingly panoramic views, and is a great place to enjoy the late sun or early morning. While we spent some time looking for wastebaskets and extra towels, we couldn't have been happier with the location, the charm, and the welcoming hosts. Thanks Alberto! We'll be seeing you again.
