My husband and I stayed here with our 18 month old and 60 lb dog. We were a little nervous going into an artist's cottage with a toddler, but we kept an eye on her and she did OK. That being said, there is a lot to watch out for, including steep stairs without child-worthy railings. The fenced in yard was great for both our dog and toddler, and provided quite a bit of privacy. It was pretty quiet for being so close to everything and our typically nervous dog was well relaxed. There is a bar and a natural food store a block or 2 away and plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The cottage was very clean and well-equipped. This was one of the most enjoyable vacations we've had and we would definitely stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent our 25th Anniversary here the week of August 7, 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed the property. All of the descriptions on the website are accurate, though I think the house may be a bit smaller than might be supposed based on the photos. We were there with two adults and two 20# dogs, so it was no problem for us, but if filled to capacity it might be a bit tight. The house and grounds were very clean and tidy. We enjoyed sitting on the deck (no bugs) watching the hummingbirds and bees in the flower border in the side yard. The dogs were very happy with the fenced yard, though there is a way to escape under the deck toward the front of the house; best to keep an eye on pets if they are loose in the lawn. We had a bit of trouble with the wifi when we arrived, but a quick call allowed us to resolve it with no problem (unplug router, wait, plug back in). As a side note, if you carry an iPhone or iPad and are on the AT&T network, you will *need* the wifi for data service; no AT&T 3G in Bar Harbor (Edge only), and that was incredibly slow as I think every iDevice in the area was trying to use it. We have been to Bar Harbor three or four times before, but this was the best and most relaxing stay yet. We used our car very little, mainly to get to Schoodic Point (worth it), the Loop Road and to reach the National Park Kayak rental place on Long Pond. And, while we always enjoy walking the carriage roads, this year we also walked the Meadow Loop and the Shore Path trails, both of which can be reached easily by foot from the house. Never did try the Island Explorer buses; maybe next time. As for food: Poor Boys Gourmet was very disappointing compared to our visit in 2005; we felt McKays was a bit better than 2005 and we ate there twice; Jordans’ pancakes/breakfast was very good and the Bluefish Café was also good, but a bit pricey and not for those looking for large or oversized portions. The Hannaford supermarket is very nearby, and many other downtown eateries are no more than a 10, or at most 15, minute walk away. All in all a great stay with no complaints; definitely recommend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, tourists without a car.

We stayed for a week with our Boston Terrier and had a great time. We would spend our days hiking in Arcadia or doing some of the more touristy things in town and it felt great to have our own little home base at night to relax in. The art is amazing (every day I would find something new) and I think I need their kitchen sink (and the shower!!). Close to everything, so we would just walk to dinner or the super market depending on our mood. Don't be afraid to ask Beth or Jeff any questions, they gave us restaurant recommendations and were always just a phone call away.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We just spent a week in Beth & Jeff's excellent Bar Harbor home and have nothing but great things to say about it. The house had everything we needed and during our rainy week in Maine, we spent considerable time relaxing in the house. The house has lots of really incredible art and you can spend hours just checking everything out. The home and yard are beautifully maintained and creatively done. It also had comfortable beds, wireless internet, cable and an incredible shower. The house is walking distance from everything in Bar Harbor and even had great parking for the car we never had to use. We can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

My husband and I drove up from Florida for a week in July 08. We were never expecting this awesome place in Bar Harbor! You could spend your entire vacation perusing all of the handcrafted artwork inside the home. Jeff is an artisan who travels the country selling his handiwork - can can even order something similar to what you see in way of furnishings or wall art. Beth and Jeff were reachable for answers to questions and right there if you needed them. This home was a joy to stay in and just blocks from everything downtown BH has to offer. Hope we can find a free week to return in '09!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

This house was perfectly located with regard to downtown shops, restaurants, and sightseeing. We did not have a car and were never left in need of one. The house is very interesting in a great way. We had 4 adults (celebrating the wife's 50th birthday) and our 12 year old son. The beds were great and the kitchen well ready for any meals you want to make. The supermarket is 2 blocks away. The garden and yard is completely fenced in and very peaceful. It is a nice neighborhood with freindly people. We wished we had our dog, it was the only thing missing. It was called the Brewer Ice House, but it was warm and inviting. Our outside temp was 40 at night to 60 during the day.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Beth and Jeff have an awesome house that feels like living in an art gallery. Funky decor and comfortable furnishings make this tucked away, yet in-town, house great fun to visit. We fit four persons (adults and teens) comfortably - two bathrooms and a very functional kitchen ensured everyone had ample room. Sufficient parking for three cars and many bicycles made our trips to the park a breeze. The garden is beautiful and bright. We had a simply wonderful time; enjoying the house, surroundings, and a great central location!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We stayed here for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was nice, especially with a family, to have plenty of space and all of the amenities of home. The home is very well kept, clean, and has a lot of character. It has been almost a year since our vacation and our kids still talk about how much they loved this home. We also enjoyed the convenience of the location to downtown and to Acadia National Park. We would definitely stay here again and hope we get the opportunity to some time soon!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
