- Milolii is known throughtout the islands for its deep sea fishing, and clear waters. The 'last fishing village' in Hawaii is just a 10 minute drive within the Milolii Beach Lots subdivision, where a secret trail leading to a coconut beach (Honomalino) offers fantastic snorkeling. The village has a County boat ramp and camp grounds, and offers easy access for kayaking and deep sea fishing. Milolii offers some of the most undeveloped stretches of coastline on the Big Island, with secret beaches to explore. Seasonal whale watching and Spinner Dolphins. As many as 10,000 Humpback Whales visit the Hawaiian waters annually from November through May. These endangered mammals enjoy the state's warm waters in the winter to breed, give birth and nurse their young. Spectacular sunsets can be viewed directly from the beachhouse. Have your camera ready! Milolii...'where the sun meets the sea' and everyone says hello!...moreless

I had 2 adults and 5 kids traveling and we stayed here for a week. We had heard a lot of negative things about the Milolii area and experienced none of them. The road from the belt road down to Milolii is long and windy, but paved. We didn't have 4WD and had no problem. The location is rural and far away from the hustle and bustle of Kona, but it was so relaxing at night. The house was large and clean. The bedrooms have a great breeze. The kitchens are stocked with cookware, coolers, and dishes. The lanai upstairs is perfect to watch the sunset from. Elaine was incredibly helpful and very easy to contact while we were in town. She helped us rent snorkel gear, recommended beaches and restaurants, and explained the nuances of the house. The waterfront was not a swimming beach. The kids we had were younger and couldn't swim in the front. But adults could kayak and SUP. We watched the sunset every night from the rocks. I would recommend this property to a family who wants to explore the island by day but wants a peaceful, quiet place at night.

Owner response: The Milolii Road is a County maintained asphalt paved road. It will be a three mile drive down to the subdivision turn-off; and if you desire to explore the Hawaiian Fishing Village, continue two more miles. This is NOT a four-wheel drive road. A gently winding road; go slowly, enjoy viewing the Mac nut and avacado farms, and cattle grazing.

Thanks a lot for your hospitality. We really enjoyed ourselves and have been recommending your place to our friends. The best part was the humpback whales which we saw breaching in the water on the last day as we were about to leave. Thanks a lot for the magical stay.

Keep the VALUE in mind!
Keep the VALUE in mind!
We spent three weeks here in October. It's a nice, large home that can easily accommodate 8 people. The marble floors are very nice, not much worry if the kids get it wet or dirty! The kitchen is quite well supplied with plenty of dishes for 20 or more! The owners (a delightful couple) showed their concern that the visit went well for us, asking several times if there was anything they could provide that wasn't there. We couldn't think of a thing we needed! The area is volcanic so think rough terrain, nothing lush and green about it, but you can drive a short distance to beautiful beaches, Volcano National Park, and the southernmost tip of the U.S. We are not scuba divers, but we watched from the deck as people pulled up in their vehicles and dive in in their scuba and snorkeling gear. My husband snorkeled right off the reef--be careful as the waves can be very rough, at least this time of year. The upper level has a huge deck ready for lots of people. The lower deck provided a wonderful spot for morning coffee--it has both a covered portion with comfy chairs and a table and a sun-bathing section complete with chaise lounges! You have beautiful views of the ocean from almost everywhere! You can cook at home in your pajamas rather than getting dressed and going down to some over-priced and overly caloric breakfast! The Farmer's Markets are so much fun with a mix of very fresh fruits and vegetables and some neat Hawaiian handicrafts! Of course, it's fun to eat out and that's readily available with a drive in to explore Kona, the usual tourist-y type place! We found a few local places that were also quite good. Be sure to try Huggo's on the beach, great fun! Thanks to Elaine and Ole for making our stay a good one!

The Stewarts spent their honeymoon in the studeo, upper level. Jordan e-mailed us these comments: We had a nice, relaxing stay at your rental. The best part was swimming with the dolphins one morning. The dolphins were right out in front--we saw them from the house, and hustled down into the water to join them! They had one or two babies that kept spinning and jumping out of the water. It had been many years since I'd seen them, and I've never been so close to them before.

A Great week with friends, far away from the touristy crowds
A Great week with friends, far away from the touristy crowds
We had wanted a place where we could relax and 'get away' from our normal routines, and this house provided us with that opportunity. The house was great. Beds were comfortable and views of the ocean from all places...well, one bedroom didn't have a direct view, but it was not that big a stretch to see it. It was well funished and things were in good working order...they had replaced the water filters for the house the day after we came and there was good pressure to do whatever needed to be done. The outside shower was great and with three couples, it was a real blessing. The Jensen's also added a third toilet and that was a nice addition. A good place for reading without being rushed...tmi? The location is very near the southern tip of the island and the subdivision is built on a lava flow. We went snorkling and kayaking and swimming and had a good time in the water. Location is closer to the volcanos than from the north end and we enjoyed the drives. We ate in a few of the local restaurants, but really preferred the ones in Kona. Went deep sea fishing with Capt. Jeff Rogers just north of Kona. Caught striped marlin and also a nice ono. Great day on the water.

We stayed in the lower level in Jan 2010. The house is very comfortable and the Jensens are great property managers. Having 2 double sea kayaks and boogie boards at our disposal really added to our trip. The outdoor shower was an unexpected benefit. The whales woke us up around 4am a couple of nights - which was very cool. I've stayed at several places on the big island and never had that experience. The stars are amazing because Milolii has very little light pollution. We'd recommend renting the entire house if you can as access to the upper lanai is key for ocean views unobstructed by power lines. A few things to be aware of - the road to Milolii adds about 15 minutes coming and going from your vacation adventures. All the houses in Milolii use cisterns for their water - water quality was great but the water pressure in the house was on the low side (but the outdoor shower makes up for this). For the price - this house is a great deal - I'd stay there again.

Owner response: The water pressure has been corrected. Changed the filters!
I stayed on the upper level at the beginning of February 2010. It was a well kept, pleasant, and quiet house. You can't beat being on the large lanai with a nice ocean view. All in all, a very enjoyable stay. When I will return to Hawai'i, I will certainly try to stau there again.

We had a wonderful week long stay in the upper level unit! It was so peacful and relaxing. Very open and plenty of room for the two of us. We loved falling asleep with all the windows open and the ocean breeze blowing in! With the ocean so close, you can hear the waves hitting the shore! Elaine & Ole were wonderful & very easy to work with (they even were kind enough to answered all of our "tourist" related questions!) Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your house! We would love to stay again in the future!

We thoroughly enjoyed this village and this property when our family spent 10 days on the Big Island. Visiting the island were my husband and I and our four kids ranging in age from 16 to 23. We rented the whole house. The accommodations were lovely and the Jensons were very delightful to work with. The house was very clean and came with every amenity needed. The village was quiet and the view from the upper level was remarkable. We would consider staying here again should we return to the island.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 9 day stay here, last Dec., 2008. The upper unit was perfect for the 2 of us. The area is quiet and relaxing. Standing on the upper lanai, we had a perfect view of the ocean and the beautiful sunsets. We've stayed in Milolii before. But, we loved our stay at the "pink" beach house the best. And we hope to do so again. We were fortunate to meet Elaine and Ole Jensen. They are a very nice and helpful couple. You will love them. Shannon & Toni
