We booked this house at the very last minute and were so happy when we arrived. The house is very nice - probably a little too nice for our two toddlers but after hiding the breakables we were good to go. (whew) The beach is just across the street and the water was incredibly warm and shallow - absolutely perfect if you have little ones. The town itself is a little sleepy - a few shops that have closed down - so that was a little different for us after going to cape cod and other places with lively villages. Great coffee house and bar though - really good food. Just an interesting place all around. Definitely worth a week.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

We enjoyed our stay last summer. House is just as described, very clean and well maintained. photos are very accurate. Proximity to the beach was great with our little girls and it was nice to be able to easily walk to the Main Street. Town is very quiet, even in August, but we found everything we needed. Would definitely recommend.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Me, my huband (who is NOT a beach person) and our friends and their two small children rented this home for a week. There was plenty of space and virtually everything you would need, dishwasher, microwave, TV with DVD/VCR and a full washer and dryer. We did need to utilize the washer and dryer everyday since towels were in short supply. What a quick, short walk to the beach! We couldn't see the water but the sand dunes and sea oats are totally visiable from the wonderful screened in porch. We found 2 great pleaces to eat, Kelly's Gingernut Pub and the Shanty were yummy. The shops that included a hardware store and a bait and tackle shop came in very handy. That brings me back to my husband who was NOT a beach person. The uncrowded beach, fishing from the pier, the quaint, comfy Bay cottage and lazy town has him saying he will come back to Cape Charles. Thanks to the owners for letting others enjoy!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Very laid back atmosphere in Cape Charles, VA. We could have stayed in the house and town all summer! The house is just a few steps away from the beach entrance. The setting is great for young children and people looking to actually relax on vacation. The area offers just enough things to do to keep everyone happy, and is a very refreshing when compared to busy Virginia beach. I would recommend this property to anyone. We loved the entire experience!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family returned to Cape Charles to visit family in the area, to see our Grandparent's old home, and visit the cemetery where many of our relatives are buried. It was so great to have a nice relaxing home to come back to after spending the day out, especially returning to a cool home when outside temperatures were 90-100+ degrees. We were able to relax and have our own space. Owners were great, and even called to make sure we got in OK. The deposit was returned promptly. Would certainly recommend.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.

Our family stayed over the 4th of July week and LOVED the town and the house. Especially the distance to the beach is unbeatable! We could walk back to the house (2 houses in) to get our drinks or beach toys for our girls. The house is extremely clean and very well decorated. The pictures does not do it's justice! The kitchen is well stocked with everything you'll need. Leave your spices at home because the house has it. Our family loved the water cooler dispenser since we drink so much water. The owners are very nice to deal with and the people who takes care of the house were extremely nice. We were told that the house has a beach umbrella so we did not bring our own. But as it turned out the umbrella did not have a stand. The caretaker as well as the owner took care of it the same day. The town has a great 4th of July parade and one of the better fireworks i have seen. The only problem was that our Sprint cell phone did not have any signal at all. We could not make any calls unless you are close to Rt 184(Randolph Road). Our family loved the house and would definitely rent the house again. I highly recommend the house to anyone.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My husband, my parents and I spent a wonderful week in Cape Charles at this comfortable, beautifully beach-themed decorated home that was in the perfect spot for the beach and the downtown. The owners were great to work with and promptly returned our damage deposit. The home also smelled really nice! Everything was so comfortable, from the home's floor plan to the bedding to the furniture. The screened front porch was divine, especially as a sunny spot in the mornings. The yard was nicely landscaped, and parking in the backyard off the alley was convenient. Even the neighbors were nice; in fact, at the end of our stay, they took our recycling for us to a nearby recycling center so that we wouldn't have to worry about it. We would highly recommend this home. Cape Charles was just what we were looking for: quaint, quiet, safe, friendly. At times, we had the beach to ourselves! We loved riding our bikes up and down the streets lined with gorgeous old homes--Queen Anne, Victorian, Neoclassical, Georgian, etc. Everyday we walked to town, got coffee, went to the pub or just wandered through the shops. It was also easy walking distance to the library, where we checked e-mail and used the internet. Kelly's Gingernut Pub was fantastic!! I am an Irish pub snob and even a bit of a food snob, and this pub met my standards. Its food was incredibly delicious and the ambiance of the place could not be beat. The town's coffee house/cafe also had wonderful ambiance, served delicious food and had friendly staff. The Eastern Shore is a marvelous, unspoiled place--not overly developed, thank God, like much of the Tidewater area and even the Outer Banks, NC has become. Much of the Eastern Shore is still dotted with quaint fishing villages and small towns that have fascinating histories (like the debtors prison up the road in Eastville). Thanks to the protection of its barrier islands, the ES is a mecca for bird enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. If you love the natural, unspoiled look, you'll find lots of perfect places on the ES. The downside to Cape Charles? Perhaps because we were there before tourist season, it was often difficult to know when many of the shops and eateries would be open, as they seemed to be sporadically closed. Before you go, just do some research to make sure places are open or check their hours.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We just loved this home!!! 6 personalities and all loved this home. It is decorated so tastefully. The home made you feel so comfortable. We had everything that we needed, even down to throws to use when you got a little chilly. You could see the bay from the porch and watching the sunset was just awesome!! We walked to the beach, stores, and local pub. Everyone in the town were very warm and friendly, just truly sweet and awesome people. Great stores, I loved the Bad Girlz collectibles!! The Antique store and other stores displayed the great local talent. The pub, Kelly's had great food. The staff there were just as friendly. I loved this home, no complaints. We all want to come back, maybe even with our husbands. lol!! I travel a lot and stay in a lot of hotels, so it was nice to have a change of pace. Plus we laughed, talked, and didn't have to worry about disturbing anyone like you would in a hotel room. Thank you to the owners for having such a wonderful home for all to share. The house was great, especially the screened in front porch. It was a few houses from the beach which had white sand and practically no waves. It was perfect for our 3 year old and one year old. The town is sleepy which was perfect for us since we just wanted to play at the beach and eat most meals at home. We would definitely go back to the Bayview Beauty. There were a few things that were less than ideal, but would not stop us from going back. One thing was that the shower in the house had a slow drain, so you would be in water up to your ankles when you were done showering. Secondly we did not find any quilts for the beds. And lastly the pillows on the bed were very old and not comfortable. I would recommend bringing your own. I would and have recommend going to the Bayview Beauty if you want to relax, get away e-mail/phone and to spend quality time with your family!Recommended for: Families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your review! The pillows are only 3 years old...hopefully they are our pillows that we purchased new. We provided lightweight cotton blankets for the summer which we found adequate for the time of year. The tub drain pipe was taken apart and refubished last summer. If the water pressure is too strong the shower tub will have some standing water. If you decrease the pressure slightly the drain can handle all the water and not lay in tub. Just like all drains it can only handle a given amount of water. Thank you for recommending us and glad you enjoyed your stay!!!!

Overall we had a nice relaxing vacation. The house is clean and well kept. The owners were pleasant and a pleasure to deal with. The beach was nice and clean with warm water and shallow sand bars which was perfect for our two year old.The rental had many conveniences like the washer/dryer,outdoor shower etc.Town was VERY sleepy but we were there pre-season so maybe its not so sleepy during the summer.Virginia beach was about 45 mins south which had a nice zoo and aquarium which our son loved. If your looking for go-carts and water slides this is def not the place for you but if your just loooking to sit on a uncrowded beach and relax this is the place. My only complaint that there is no internet available. We have AT+T and the service around cape charles was bad.Could barely make phone calls and could not get on the internet on my iphone. For some people this is not a problem but if you are a very connected person (as i am) this could be very frustrating.Verizon has good service there. If you have AT+T plan on not having internet during your stay. The neighbors take care of the rental and are very nice and accommodating.Maybe they could set wireless internet up with enough range to access it from the rental and provide renters with a password to access it.(just a suggestion). Besides that though we had a great time, our toddler had a blast and we were very happy with the rental.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: AT&T is aware of the problem and is working on their cell tower. We are told it should be repaired or replaced sometime this summer. Thank you for the lovely comments about your stay at A Bayview Beauty.

Why the Owner Chose Cape Charles:
The town is charming ...older homes, sidewalks, a 'Main Street' in walking distance, and friendly people. It is quiet, with that small town feel. 'A step back into time'.The area is full of history, activities and exploration. Its close proximity to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean provide different water experiences. There is a new, upscale marina with shops and a golf village in town. Cape Charles is a day's drive (just a little over 9 hrs.) from our home in Ohio. The Eastern shore is a beautiful area, some have described it similar to the Outer banks and Long Island as it was thiry years ago. The pace is calm and easy here. We have met many people who have been drawn to the area for the same reasons, with whom we have become friends, and look forward to seeing again.
