We just spent a marvelous three days at the Robinson House. The raves for Joyce and her hospitality are true. When I asked her about the white water rafting and zip lining, in nearby Harper's Ferry, she sent her husband down to check it out and then got back to me. The house is charming and extremely comfortable with plenty of room for everyone. There is a lovely back porch in addition to the pool area and a charming front porch complete with rocking chairs. Her gardens are truly beautiful. What makes the house truly stand out is Joyce's aim to please. She stocks the refrigerator with your favorites and does everything she can to make the stay as pleasing as possible. When you walk in, there are home made cookies waiting for you. I highly recommend a stay at the Robinson House.

I celebrated my 40th birthday with 9 of my closest girlfriends. It was a weekend that I will never forget. The owner, Joyce, has the best hospitality of anyone I know!!! The house is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. We never had to want for anything because the house is fully stocked and what wasn't there, Joyce was quick to accomodate. We had a big birthday dinner on Saturday evening and Joyce's husband came and cooked for all of us ladies!! We made so many lasting memories this weekend and I will never forget my stay at the Robinson House. The house and surrounding area is full of history. There is something for everyone in this town. I would recommed this place 100 times over!

The Robinson House is simply beautiful. The time and attention to detail expended by Joyce and Tom in renovating this fabulous building is again employed with the same exuberance in making sure that their guests want for nothing. With boundless energy, encyclopedic knowledge of the local area and a generous heart guests are welcomed by Joyce, who’s obvious pride in the house as she shows you around is fully justified. The fully equipped kitchen contained a fridge overflowing with food and a countertop stacked with goodies. Generosity and hospitality like this is a rare commodity. Thank you for four wonderful days across Memorial Day weekend. The experience of being part of the Robinson House family is one memory we will cherish.

Beautiful House & A Most Gracious Host

I can confirm everything that the previous reviewer (Phyllis) said about the beautiful Robinson House and its hostess with the mostest, Joyce. This was my first experience with VRBO and Homeaway and Joyce went above and beyond all of our hopes and expectations. The only reason I selected "Good" rather than "Excellent" for this review is due to some problems with the pool and the unexpected presence of a landscape "architect" on the grounds, but these are very, very minor complaints unique to our visit for which Joyce apologized profusely. She also assured me the landscape will be gorgeous for future visits! The house is even more lovely in person than photographs and absolutely spotless. Joyce not only stocked the kitchen with more food than we could eat, but even took special requests. She also put together a nice packet of local information and recommended things to do and places to eat. And she's so friendly and attentive, one of those people you feel like you've known all your life. The house is technically in the town of Ranson, but it's just a couple of steps from Charles Town, which is a wonderful place to walk around (I became addicted to the Jumpin' Java cafe), and it's just a short drive from Harpers Ferry, Sheperdstown and Frederick, MD. I would definitely recommend The Robinson House and will certainly rent it again if/when I return to the area.
Owner response:I appreciate our guests taking the time to share their experience. I was fortunate to have the gentlemen who is a landscape architect help with the yard for an upcoming wedding. His time was a gift from a close personal friend and limited. Working during the week between weather extremes became a necessity. The former owner's loved flowers and herbs, so the grounds are an on going work of love demanding time and attend. As the summer unfolds, the yard will require less attention, and our guests will enjoy the beauty of our labor. Enjoy the summer and visit The Robinson House, your home away from home.

If you have ever wanted to live in a Victorian house but were never able to buy one, staying at The Robinson House is the next best thing! It is like owning your own home because you have the entire house all to yourself. Unlike a B&B where there are other guests and the owner is on the premises, you are the only people there. Joyce (the real owner) meets you, shows you around, gives you the keys, and then leaves. However, before she goes, she has supplied you with an unbelievable amount of food and drinks! We had so many breakfast choices that it was impossible to sample everything! There were delicious scones, muffins, bacon, eggs, French toast, breakfast wraps, cereals, fresh fruit, milk, juice, coffee, and tea. She also left sandwiches for lunch, sodas, bottled water, and lots of snacks - cheese and crackers, dip and carrots, cookies, a pitcher of homemade iced tea, and a basket of other treats! It was amazing! Joyce is an extremely generous person who goes out of her way to be helpful! The house itself is a gem - absolutely gorgeous, sparkling clean, beautifully decorated - perfect, in every way! It is very obvious that Joyce has put a lot of time and love into decorating The Robinson House. I especially loved the dining room! It was a very pretty room with beautiful furniture. She has also put a great deal of thought into supplying everything and anything her guests could possibly need. There are pillows and towels galore, and nice lotions in the bathrooms. Even the medicine cabinets were stocked in case you forgot something. I could go on and on, but just know that if you need it, it's there! My husband and I have stayed in many B&Bs and inns, and The Robinson House is one of the best! We had a wonderful time there, and will definitely be going back! I highly recommend it - you won't want to go home! Thanks, Joyce - for EVERYTHING!!!

My Husband and myself, his sister and her husband decided we wanted to take a quick weekend getaway to Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg. We did not want to stay in a hotel, or a bed and breakfast and how lucky did we get? Well The Robinson House was PERFECT and Joyce Garrison (owner) made our stay just Wonderful. We loved the House, Location and she had everything, I mean everything. We just wished that we would have had more time, it would have been nice just to hang out at the house for a couple of days. If you are planning a trip to do some Civil War History, then you definitely should stay at the The Robinson House!!! Thank you again Joyce, it was like being at home only more relaxing.

A WONDERFUL Home Away From Home!

My husband and I travel extensively for business and always try to stay in VRBO homes whenever possiible -- we do not like to stay in hotels. We decided to stay at Robinson House on a recent trip. What a FANTASTIC choice! This home has been lovingly restored by the host and hostess. It is a turn of the century Victorian, and has been furnished and decorated in period style. Joyce, our hostess, has spent many hours making this home as hospitable as possible for the traveler, and it certainly shows! The home is incredibly clean and beautifully maintained. Joyce and her husband have installed central air and heat; an expensive endeavor for a Victorian house. Joyce makes sure that you are as comfortable as possible. She provides an amazing array of snacks and drinks. This was much appreciated (and almost never provided by other VRBO owners). The house has a front porch and two back porches. All are wonderful for having a cup of coffee or tea while relaxing. The back porches overlook a lovely garden. The home also has an above-ground pool for those of you who are interested in swimming. The kitchen is fully equipped with good quality appliances and pots and pans (Sometimes VRBO owners put awful pots and pans in their rentals. It was a pleasure to be able to use the good ones at Robinson House!) The beds and bedding are good quality and very comfortable. (Again, some owners have uncomfortable beds and shabby bedding. Certainly not the case here!) We can say absolutely nothing negative about the Robinson House. We love older homes with their great personalities! If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton, this is not for you. If you are looking for a comfortable and charming turn-of-the-18th Century home with one of the most gracious and solicitous hostesses around, Robinson House is an excellent choice in the Charles Town/Harper's Ferry/Antietam Battlefield area.

My fiancé and I were looking for a place to stay so we could visit Harper's Ferry, VA. This home is located approx. 8 miles from the National Park. What more could we expect from this vacation home? Nothing, it was absolutely amazing! Everything was fully stocked for us and the owners have made the property a beautiful place to enjoy every moment of the trip. We had a wonderful time staying here and the owners were very accommodating to anything we needed. The history on the home makes it an even more remarkable place to stay. Unbelievable, spacious rooms and very comforting! We will be going back very soon…
