Accommodations:  Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 6)

The apartment building
It is situated half a block from the Seine and there's a Vélib station right next to it. The Metro (Ligne 5) is exactly one stop away from Ligne 1 (which takes you through the Marais, the Louvre, the Rue de Rivoli, the Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, etc.) and one stop away from Ligne 10 (which takes you to the 5th and Odéon and St. Germain des Près ... all the way to Boulogne). Plus Ligne 5 takes you directly to the Gare du Nord (and Gare de l'Est), as well as to the Place d'Italie, which is a great center for Chinese and Thai food. There are tons of cafés around.

The apartment
Overlooking the Seine and the Yachting Harbour of Paris or "Port de l'Arsenal", where a number of diverse types of boats are moored, the 90 sqm two-bedroom apartment is a few steps from the historical Place de la Bastille where you find the Opera de Paris. Boulevard de la Bastille faces the nautical entrance to the Canal St-Martin and all the waterways that connect it to Paris and the Seine.

The "Port de l'Arsenal" is a *marina* in the heart of the city, really charming in a Parisian way and a wonderful place to walk, jog, have a café, picnic: there's even a park for young children there. Enjoy a cruise on Canal Saint-Martin leaving at the foot of the apartment ! Another wonderful green space nearby is the "Coulée Verte" above the Viaduc des Arts that was featured in a recent film starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke.

The most central location in Paris
Within a short walking distance is the Royal Place des Vosges, the Marais, the Ile Saint Louis, the Picasso Museum, the Maison Rouge (latest modern art museum to open in Paris), art galleries, the “Rue de Lappe” and its many ethnic restaurants and pubs,
If you walk across the Austerlitz Bridge you find yourself directly in the 5th arrondissement with the Jardin des Plantes and its zoo (great fun for children), the Latin Quarter and its Open Air Sculpture museum.

When you arrive from Charles de Gaulle-Roissy airport, board RER B (regional fast train) stop at Gare du Nord. Hop onto line 10, in the direction of Place d'Italie for 8 stations; stop at Quai de la Râpée: the apartment is 25m away. It is also very close to 3 other metro lines and many bus routes taking you all over Paris. There are even direct buses from Roissy to Gare de Lyon!

For those who come to Paris on business, they will be close to RER A that crosses the whole of Paris up to the area of La Defense (in 20 minutes). You may want to go further afield to Versailles (via Gare d'Austerlitz), or Euro-Disney (via Gare de Lyon)! Ditto if you are using Paris as a base for exploring Europe, board a train from Gare de Lyon to go to the South of France, Italy, and Switzerland, from Gare du Nord (8 stations away) to go to Central London in exactly 2 hours.

Vacation Rental Amenities
A superb view is THE PLUS of the functional and entirely refurbished apartment located on the 6th floor of a late 19th century building (elevator, interphone security, concierge, armored door). It is full of English-language books and videos: children are more than welcome. With two south-facing windows looking over the Paris Yachting Harbour, the river Seine, the Pantheon and two east-facing rear windows looking over the private garden and a row of 19th century buildings the apartment is light, sunny and extremely quiet. But the best about it is that at night you will enjoy the unforgettable view on sparkling Eiffel Tower every hour for 10 minutes on the hour.

Another plus: this building has a real garden out back, which is fairly rare in Paris.

The apartment has two large bedrooms with ample storage space, one with a kingsize bed, the other with two twin beds transformable into a kingsize. The sofa in the living room transforms into a kingsize bed (rare in Paris) with a wonderfully firm mattress. Alle the beds are new, extra-firm and of prime quality. Central heating in winter, three fans in summer, linen provided, towels provided, 4 ring stove, clothes dryer, dishwasher, freezer, fridge, microwave, oven, washing machine, fireplace, seating for 6 people, dining room seating for 6 people, 1 full bathroom with bath and shower, bidet, separate toilet, audio tape player, CD, DVD player,VCR, radio, stereo system, 2 TV sets (one with flat screen), video library, lots of books in all sorts of languages, unlimited broadband internet access, garage (2 spaces) non smoking only, pets not allowed, wheelchair inaccessible.

On a practical note, very near there are ATMs, inexpensive restaurants, small supermarkets, including the farmers markets on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays where fresh local produce can be found.

Vacation Rental Rates
Prices are for the apartment per week in euros all included.
Extra maid service and baby-sitting can be arranged. A 25% non-refundable deposit is required on booking (Paypal, bank wire).
Balance payable cash on arrival as well as a 1,000€ fully-refundable security deposit against damage (by check, in cash, in euros or in your own currency). The deposit is returned when the keys are handed back, provided you return the apartment in the same immaculate state as when you received it and provided you do not smoke. If smoking occurs, the deposit will be kept in whole.

Regular changeover day is Saturday in season. We will accommodate other check-in dates where possible. Check-in normally 1pm, but if we can, we try to accommodate guests arriving on overnight flights from North America.

Check-out normally 10am to help same-day changeover cleaning. Special arrangements may be possible depending on other bookings. Luggage storage is possible until you set out for the airport.

Why the Owner Chose Paris Arrondissement 4

The apartment is located on the 6th floor while we live on the 5th.
So it is very easy to provide good service to our guests : it is very reassuring for them as well.
Our housekeeper can also help out every morning.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

The apartment is uniquely central and enjoys a magnificent view over the whole of Paris. Dining in style with the Eiffel Tower twinkling in the distance is an extraordinary sight for all our guests.

Owner's Map of Paris Arrondissement 4

After travelling extensively and living and working in the US and Iraq, I have taught English at university level for years.

Camille, my husband, is a retired CEO. His company worked at making buildings and cities in France energy-efficient long before global warming made it a must.

Our 20-year-old twin sons live with us: Emmanuel is a Fine Arts student and Jonathan an IT student.

Dear Catherine Would just like to let you know that we had a fabulous time in Paris last week in your apartment and can thoroughly recommend it. The position was very central to everything and the Metro within close proximity to the apartment as you said. The view of the Eiffel tower from the apartment window was lovely especially at midnight when it sparkled. We managed to see all the great places of interest the Louvre,Effiel Tower, Acr De triumph ,Versaille and a lovely village called Verdun, and many more. Once again thank you for all your help and information prior to our vist and hopefully will vist again in the not too distant future. Best wishes Margaret & Keith and family

"Amazing view and perfect location" "Our family of 4 was thrilled with our stay at the apartment. The view was spectacular (Seine, Seine Boat Basin, Pantheon, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower), and we raced home every night to catch the hourly sparkling lights on the Eiffel Tower. Two Metro stations are within a five minute walk, as is the train to Versaille, but our favorite activity was riding the Velib rental bikes along the banks of the Seine--a five minute ride from the house. The apartment is clean, well-stocked and organized, and the beds are extremely comfortable. The bedrooms are VERY quiet, which is much appreciated after a busy day of sight-seeing. Their are many cafes and restaurants in the neighborhood, and we especially enjoyed walking in the Marais and buying groceries at the local street market. The elevator is small, but it's part of the charm of the beautiful, old building. We would definitely consider renting this apartment again."

The apartment was large and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. And everything we could think of was there for us. They don't mention that they also provide towels, robes, toiletries, and slippers. It was great to have a washing machine so we could bring fewer clothes too (although it took a bit of finagling to figure out how to use it in French). The internet worked well (except for one night). They just put in air conditioners which did come in handy one night. (May 2009)

The apartment is perfect for a family, with every comfort and the bonus of a lovely eiffel tower view. Nicely located on the port d/ arsenal you overlook the marina -but are in walking distance to bastille, le marais and the jardin des plantes. The owner lives downstairs in the same building and is very helpful. Internet access also a big plus for everyone.(May 2009)

Our stay in Paris (too short!) We stayed at this lovely apartment for 5 nights. We chose this due to the view and a good location for the price. We'd never been to Paris before, so we weren't sure what to expect. Luckily, the apartment was just as described, or actually it was better. Location-once I got the lay of the land, and figured out how to use the Metro, it was easy easy to get around. Although there is a Metro station right across the street, we found that walking to the Bastille station was better since it had more lines. There are some cafe's and shops around although it was more of a residential area. The view was beautiful, every night we watched the Eiffel tower light up. The apartment had big windows you could open for air, however, we did hear the Metro and traffic quite a bit. But we got used to it right away. Prudence NJ ( May 2009)

Located at junction of Seine and Canal St Martin with views across to Notre Dame, Eifel Tower, Montparnasse Tower, Pantheon from the main room, and views from the bedrooms across the roof tops to Gare de Lyon. Situated on the top (6th) floor of an elegant apartment block which has a two person lift to all floors. The property is comfortably furnished and can accommodate six people by converting the settee into a double bed. We were a family of four with two girls of 12 and 14 sharing the second bedroom and found everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The apartment was very clean and tidy and provided with fresh flowers upon arrival. Catherine met us at the door and showed us around and explained how to operate the appliances and how the recycling system works. Catherine and all of the other people in the block that we met were polite and friendly. The kitchen is well provided with appliances, but the oven is part of a multi-function microwave and too small to contemplate any real cooking - but this is Paris, and there are plenty restaurants within a few minutes walk. Recycling is taken seriously in Paris and there is good provision for separating glass, paper, plastics, tins, from waste - in addition there is a compost bin so there is little excuse for not joining in and doing your bit to help the planet. The use of a broadband internet connection allowing us to stay in touch via e-mail and MSN was excellent. Watching the Eifel Tower sparkle for a few minutes every hour while sitting in your own living room is a memory we will keep with us for some time. Out and about, we'd recommend the Musee de la Orangerie and the Pompidou Centre for a wide spectrum of art. The Jardin des Plantes just across the river for the cherry blossom and other flowers - plus the Menagerie for an eclectic mix of zoo animals of which the red pandas and the orang utans were our favourites. With the metro (Quai de la Rapee) at the end of the road you have access to all areas of Paris within a few minutes, but we enjoyed just walking along to the islands in the Seine and soaking up the Parisian atmosphere from one of the cafes or a park bench near the Notre Dame. We look forward to returning to Paris in due course and we'd recommend Catherine's apartment as a super centre for your stay.

    • The apartment was perfect for our needs- fantastic location, really just steps away from the metro; so clean and functional; lots of great books and videos for our young kids that we used almost daily; the shopping cart was so helpful for our trip to the Bastille Market and your maps of the bakery and grocery stores were great! We loved your big dining table with the spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower. Also, working with you has been a pleasure- you have always been so quick in responding.
