Beautiful Part of Oahu, secluded, great beach

Was more than satisfied with the condo. I was not discouraged by the earlier negative reviews. Irene was easy to work with and gave a greatly detailed rental packet. This was my second time on Oahu and this was a great retreat from the overcrowded beaches of Waikiki that I experienced my first time. We were able to buy groceries nearby to enjoy meals in the lovely remodeled kitchen. We saw the sunset every morning with very few other people on the beach, sometimes we were the only ones! We hit up the nearby shrimp shacks, easy drives to North Shore, Makapuu lighthouse, Dole plantation, and numerous beaches. We also went on an amazing hike where the trailhead was very close to the condo, Hauula Loop. The hike was full of breathtaking views of the mountains and ocean. So, if you're looking for a secluded, private time on Oahu, I highly recommend this place. The bedroom is very small and cozy, but we slept on the futon in the living room to hear the ocean and feel its breeze. If you're looking more overpopulated tourist crowds, then this place is not for you.

We loved our stay while there. The price was really nice compared to other condos. It was close to everything we wanted to do. We'd definitely go back!
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our stay in Hawaii and the condo we rented in Punalu'u. Everything in the condo was very nice as was the common area such as the patio and pool. I loved the kitchen area…. I was impressed with the maintenance people. They were there every day early in the morning collecting the trash and recycling, cleaning the pool, getting the patio tables and chairs ready for the day and they kept a close eye on who was and wasn't supposed to be on the property. It's great that they are so cautious about the security of the property and ensure that the property is only used by guests and residents. The residents were very friendly, too. First time we had used Home Away and should of been suspicious that there were no previous reviews of the unit. The first impression was that the building was in poor shape, I would guess it was over 30 years old and somewhat dilapidated. It was out first time near the North Shore ( a 45 min drive ) and it seems to be an economically depressed part of Oahu. The unit was clean and the kitchen was up to date. The bedroom was so small that the full size bed is up against the wall on one side and less than a foot of room on the other, The bathroom was sufficient, The living room sofa (futon) was uncomfortable to sit in which made it hard to have anywhere to relax. The lania was so small you really couldn't sit ( or want to ) with the ac unit and surrounded by neighbors running units as well. The partial view ( odd no pics of it) was through a gauntlet of walls and security cameras. The pool was freezing, and the beach was rocky, the ocean so shallow one would not want to swim in it. The wind was constantly cold and persistent. We would not recommend it to any of our friends, rather we would return to Kailua Beach where the beaches are white and sandy, plenty of good restaraunts, and close to Honolulu. Construction noise was constant on all sides of the unit.
