Serenity & adventure, a piece of heaven.

After three visits Casa Serena has become a clearly identified safe harbor for our family. We quickly learned to expect a beautiful welcoming house with wide open windows to the ocean and lots and lots of opportunities for dreaming. Day and night the proximity with the ocean creates the perfect background sound of waves gently breaking on the shore; the perfect scenario to let your spirit soar. As much as there is serenity in Casa Serena there is also an inviting sense of adventure. The small headland to the right of the house provides a natural frame that not only makes the beach cozy and protective but it invites young and old explorers to stand out on the rock and wait for the waves to crash, explore its small pools or cast a fishing line. The distant coral reef to the far left is an invitation for more discoveries and a pleasant walk on the beach. The joy of walking back and forth between the house and the beach provided each of us with the opportunity to venture out or find shelter as we individually needed. The daily agenda was relaxed since within Casa Serena we had everything we could have wanted; a beautiful house with a safe beach, a refreshing pool framed by cooling porches and inviting nooks and crannies throughout the house. The terrace is the perfect place to end the day looking at the sunset and the coming out of the stars. My kids actually wanted to spend the night outside which I would have allowed hadn’t it been for a midnight shower. We enjoyed sunny and occasional rainy days alike. The hardest part was when our time came to leave. Fortunately we know that even if Casa Serena belongs to the McGregor’s there is a time in space when it is all ours. Thank you very much for making this possible for us. My children and family look forward to their next return with anticipation. Would suggest dinner before sunset and through sunset at Tino's restaurant in Punta Mita (pescado sarandeado). A boat ride to the Mariela Islands through Rudy (Tino's can help find him) is a GREAT adventure for the family.

I rented Casa Serena for our family of 5 (3 college students) to gather for the one and only week we have together all year. I had the opportunity to meet with the owner in person because I happened to be in San Francisco where she lives. She is an architect, and clearly put her heart and soul into this spectacular home. When we drove up and peeked into the house (where a house attendant, Juan, had left a large bucket of ice with cold Coronas waiting) I immediately thought "yay! Its exactly as great as I hoped it would be". Really beautiful decor, immaculate, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, linen closet with beach towels embroidered Casa Serena and a bottle of classy Caldrea linen spray. Huge laundry room off the kitchen. Spectacular places to eat; either a nice big mexican-style dining room table or a beautiful round table outside under the awning for protection from the sun. Beautiful landscaping, and the beach is not to be believed. Next door is a mexican fishing family of sorts who go out everyday and one day they waved at my kids to come and see the baby turtles they'd rescued and brought up to strengthen so they'd survive. Really nice swimming pool with a little mosaic turtle on the very bottom which even made our 3 "cool" 20-ish kids smile. Two nights we used the wonderful cook Elizabeth the owner had recommended and she made glorious dinners that were inexpensive and had enough food to last us the next day. This house is literally right smack on the beach as in you hear crashing waves as you are falling asleep at night if you choose to leave the windows open. There is a lovely boutique hotel 2 doors down with a great restaurant; other places need to be driven to. We only ventured out twice the entire week; once to check out the town of Sayulita and another evening to have a drink at the beautiful Four Seasons. This house was so fantastic I could imagine just parking here for the entire week and not moving at all. Our kids raved about it and it was the perfect way to be together and reconnect. Outstanding.

We recently stayed at Casa Serena (4 adults, five children .. one of which was an infant) and found it a nearly perfect place for our vacation. We were pleasantly surprised by the design and high-end touches in the house (this is not your typical beach rental.) The house was very tastefully furnished and decorated. Betzaida cooked for us all week, her food was marvelous and better than we found in town. The beach was kid friendly, and clean. The waves on the beach were mellow enough for five year olds though we did have them wear life jackets just in case. The pool was very clean and well looked after. We watched humpback whales breaching 5 of the 7 days we were there from the patio. The house is 15 mins from the surf town Sayulita (and also very close to local surfing spots in Punta Mita.) We hope to come back when we can. We also had a marvelous dinner at the Four Seasons Resort (about 10 mins away.) Having a car here is recommended as it allows you to get to some of the best surf spots and restaurants as well as to/from PV. Please note: there were some "speed traps" on the way to the airport .. so drive the limit and/or watch closely. To top it all off the owner was very responsive and helped answer all of our questions prior to (and during) our stay. Five stars!

We discovered a piece of paradise! Casa Serena is more beautiful than advertised. Lovely, spacious home, modern amenities, gorgeous views, ocean just feet away...amazing. The beach is very quiet and private. Punta de Mita is minutes away, with a number of worthwhile restaurants - all at water's edge. This is an ideal location for anyone seeking a quiet, relaxing vacation; probably less inviting to someone seeking a high-adventure experience. Bring books and plan to spend lots of time on the patio, watching pelicans dive, and listening to the ocean roar. The owner and local property managers were extremely accommodating. The propery manager's wife will cook dinner on request (well worth it, at least once). Locally, several whale-watching trips and snorkel excursions are available as well. A rental car is a necessity. We felt completely safe and welcomed by all. Did I mention...January weather was sunny, with a gentle breeze, a high of 80 and low of 60? I cannot overstate what a great place Casa Serena is. I would go back in an instant!

My family and I recently stayed at the Casa Serena over the Christmas Holidays and it was amazing! The house is absolutely beautiful and has everything you will need. The pool and deck area were perfect, as well as the direct access to the beach. We felt safe the whole time and welcomed by the locals. We were planning on doing day trips to Sayulita and surrounding areas, but couldn't manage to leave the beautiful house and beach as it had everything we wanted and needed. I highly recommend Casa Serena to anyone and everyone!

We spent a week at Casa Serena with 2 other couples and a few of our kids. We all had a wonderful time thanks to Casa Serena's fantastic pool and its location right on the beach. The soft white sand and the beautiful clear ocean water were great. We were able to see and swim with several mantarays close to shore. The dads enjoyed fishing everyday along the beach and near the coves. The house is beautifully decorated, is very clean, and well-kept. It was great to have all the amenities of home, like the washer & dryer, beach/pool towels, clean linens, new refrigerator, fully furnished kitchen, TV & DVDs, etc. Plus, the owners, gardener, housekeeper, and cook were all very nice and responsive. We are looking forward to coming back and have highly recommended Casa Serena to all of our friends and families.

We went to Casa Serena with my sister and her family( who lives in guadalajara) my parents my husband and kids,( we come from Holland) it was perfect, when we came there was cold drinks, and homemade nachodip!!!!(yammie) beautifull house, great view, allmost a private beach, great pool. We asked for a lady who made some really Mexican food on New Years day en it was so good. Housekeeping was very friendly en the pool was cleaned allmost every day. I liked the big closet with towels, you don't have to use your towel 2 times, there was a washer and dryer. A perfect kitchen. We saw whales in the pacific from our house. One thing is for sure we 'll be back!!! Sorry for my bad English

The house far exceeded our expectations and was the perfect getaway. We had 8 people ranging from 11 mos to mid 20's and 30's to early 60's and everyone had a fantastic time! We thought we had stepped into a featured home in Architectural Digest – it’s just lovely with remarkable attention to detail from the wooden doors to the clever windows to the gorgeous tiles and the rustic furniture! Rooms are spacious and comfortable – each with a balcony to look out to the pool and beach. The house has all the amenities you would want to be completely comfortable. The owners are fabulous and super responsive. The house is very clean and meticulously maintained and the housekeeper that comes by in unobstrusive and makes everything sparkle again. The beach is picture perfect and the sand is easy on the feet. I have already recommended to several friends and we are definitely coming back!

We have been going to Casa Serena for 6 years. We always thought when we first went to Mexico that we would try a different location every time. But everything about Casa Serena was so perfect we knew we couldn't do better anywhere else. Even though our next visit is still 2 weeks away my 16 year old daughter is already packed! We loved the house before, but now it will be even more beautiful with the remodel. The beach is very peaceful and every morning we wander and collect shells. Boogie boarding is lots of fun here! The pool setting cannot be beat. Private but with a fantastic view. We enjoy the sunsets and watching the stars come out at night. Almost every day is spent right here at the house but we love our side trips (just 5 to 10 minutes away) to Sayulita and Punta Mita for lunch or dinner and shopping. We go Casa Serena to enjoy the sun and warmth and to just relax but there is plenty available nearby for those looking for more adventure.
