Venice Beach house description

Cutting edge

On the fashionable streets of Venice, if you aren’t two steps ahead, you’re falling behind. And along these sunlit streets is where you’ll find Main Street – a home that got the memo. The sleek white walls and stylish furnishings impart an impressive sangfroid, and this cool is echoed elsewhere, from the offbeat chandelier to the clean lines of the self-contained studio upstairs.

A decked garden extends from the open-plan living area, accessorised with a table and sofa big enough for ten, while the studio’s balcony is styled with dainty wicker loungers and a voguish white parasol.

Trendsetter

Your host is a fashion photographer with an eye for detail. And after years of the jet-set lifestyle, he’s turned it to styling his unusual home.

In vogue

The open-plan living area is embellished with chic tones of grey and some rather trend-setting dining chairs, while the double bedroom and ensuite just beyond are refreshingly uncluttered. Strike a pose here in the ample light offered by the French doors, or make your way to the unique studio – a contemporary four-poster bed, streamlined kitchenette and sunny balcony cut above the main space.

And though this home’s coveted deck might cause a double take, ignoring the restaurants, boutiques and sandy shores just beyond Main Street’s front door would be nothing short of tasteless.

Location

Long ago – after the resort crowd found a comparatively happier place on earth in Anaheim, and oil tycoons drank up fossilized riches for decades – the artists came to Venice, eschewing posher Santa Monica above, Mar Vista aside and affluent Marina Del Rey below.

Their needs were minimal, their possessions few… but their creativity quickly took root in the salty sea breeze. They created the pedestrian-only Ocean Front Walk promenade, equal parts seaside and sideshow. The main drag – Abbot Kinney (named after the city’s co-founder) – became thick with specialty curio shops like Tony’s, cafés like sandwich staple Abbot’s Habit and local watering holes like The Brig.

And then a funny thing happened. Ideas, it turns out, are quite valuable to those who need them. Soon the artists found themselves in demand and their city prosperous, beckoning artists of other trades – designers, chefs, decorators, and mixologists – to organically integrate their own ideas alongside Venice’s historic canals and coffeehouses, embracing new yet preserving old.

Today’s Venice is an eclectic mix, a patchwork playground where vestiges of its counter-culture days proudly neighbour hip new entries, such as city-wide brunch and brick-oven pizza destination Gjelina and Mediterranean-inspired tapas at Primitivo Wine Bistro. While antique shops like Firefly and The Perfect Piece remind us that what’s old can still be new again. And it remains a place for artists, vintage yet modern, serving draft beers alongside handcrafted cocktails, for barefoot hippies and mustachioed hipsters alike.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Booking a stay is as easy as booking a hotel room, with online payment and confirmation. You get the same attention to detail and personal service too. Every home is properly cleaned before and after you stay, beds made (we can even do hospital corners) and bathrooms kitted out with luxury toiletries. There’s a maid service if you want it, as well as other hotel-style amenities. Once we’ve helped you settle in, we’re just a call away, 24/7. If it’s something we can’t solve over the phone, we’ll pop over to lend a hand. And because nobody wants to be a tourist, our homes come with personal and unique recommendations from the people who live in them – places to eat, things to do and adventures to go on.
