Review #2272615 Charming Casa
My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at Casa Carmen. The place was so charming and interesting since the owner has many of his pieces of art work in the casa.....very clean with wonderful smells and magical lamps. The hosts were so very gracious and welcoming to us and to our dogs. We loved the art studio, the beautiful yard and the walking trail. They have many little sitting areas and unexpected surprises to discover. The upper decks were perfect for watching the sunset with a glass of wine. This was truly a place of enchantment. We would recommend this place to any couple or girls get away.
Skiing, Bicycling, Hiking,Rafting, Ballooning, Fishing, Fine Restaurants, Art Galleries and Museums less than 10 minutes away. Dark skies and millions of stars keep you company at night!

Casa Carmen may be best described as the Sunrise and the Sunset House. You are bathed continually with our immense New Mexico sun and artist's light. The 360 degree views are stunning, inspirational, beckoning to mind and spirit. A wonderful feature of the home is the incredible interior and exterior lighting. For the property, a DVD has been produced.
The home was built by the owners of adobe and hand-hewn logs. It is a stunning two level guest house of 1200 square feet. An interior spiral stair case connects the levels. There is also a wide exterior stair.
The second level is designed as a parlor for conversation, sleeping, entertainment area, also with a table that seats four. There are two fantastic decks: The sunrise deck and the sunset deck. Each are spacious and wonderful for dining, entertaining, conversation, and of course viewing the expanse of Taos Valley and Taos Mountain nearby. You can almost touch the mountains!
The first level consists of wonderful sunroom, a bedroom, the country kitchen, the living room with dining area, and a full bath. The first level has south and east facing portals (covered porches) with comfortable outdoor seating.
A new hot tub is yours to enjoy outdoors in sun or starlight. The views are wonderful from its location!
Located in a grove of Aspens and Evergreens and surrounded by 150 acres of private land, raised flower beds and flagstone paths wander through the trees and expansive yard.
The home is decorated with the paintings of Pat Woodall, the owner, and other prominent Taos artists. A delightful collection of folk art also adorns the home. The grounds and gardens have been designed by Carmen Woodall. Many outdoor delights await you with inviting comfort for your leisure. The outdoor lounging areas also have chimineas and a brazier for evening fires beneath the star-filled New Mexico night skies. Out here, there exists no light, noise, or visual pollution.
You are a few minutes from the charming village of Arroyo Seco offering fine restaurants, shops, location of the famous Taos Cow, and a infamous local tavern!! It is only a 10 minute drive to the historic Taos Plaza and a 20 minute drive to Taos Ski Valley for world-class skiing or Hiking, Fishing, Horseback Riding,or Bicycling where Lance Armstrong trains.
Pat and Carmen are nearby to assist you when called upon. Being the charming hosts they are, they will welcome you into their beautiful home for viewing, conversations, refreshments, and provide information about the entire area. They have been residents of Taos for twenty six years. In short, you have a knowledgeable concierge. If you need an easel, one is provided!
Casa Carmen is perfect for one to six guests. A wonderful experience offering authenticity, spaciousness, incredible views, and superb guest services. Pat also offers painting lessons if interested. The guest house is ideal for artists, writers, they who desire rare travel opportunities and being close to outdoor activities. You are, as well, only a short drive from everything a world-renowned art and literary colony offers.
To discover the wonderful features and amazing setting of this home, and to negotiate, it is always best to CALL. I am available to assist you with your questions, travel needs, and complete details related to Casa Carmen and Taos.

Casa Carmen is an excellent choice for both winter and summer vacations. The hosts are gracious - they have food and wine for you on arrival and we were treated to a surprise dinner and breakfast. The location is perfect for both skiing and visits to Taos (and surrounding areas) being situated just to the west of the picturesque village of Arroyo Seco. The views of the Sangre de Christo's to the east at sunset are nothing short of breathtaking. You also get a great view of Truchas Peak to the south and to the west the Jemez Mountains stand tall in the distance, including a view of Cerro Pedernal. The guest house is both a great retreat with a full kitchen and doubles as an art gallery. The property is full of trails and has great things for kids to play on. The only downside to staying in the winter after so much snow was everything was covered up by it! Saw lots of rabbits and magpies. Will definitely be staying there again on our next trip to Taos!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I had a wonderful time at Casa Carmen. Pat and Carmen are incredibly generous hosts, and the setting is breath taking with clear blue skies and beautiful snow on both the mountains and their property. We took our dogs with us, and they loved the size of the property and the ability to take long walks off the main road. This is a great location for skiing and hiking, and we saw coyotes and rabbits. We are looking forward to our next visit to Arroyo Seco.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My two old college buddies and I spent 3 days at the Casa Carmen to catch up and spend time together! What a wonderful time we had being hosted by the Woodalls! Beautiful place, comfortable, charming and so unique that we were delighted when first we say it! We had a tour of all the grounds and the Casa and could only marvel at how fabulous it was... we enjoyed it so much and on the morning we left the French Toast and country ham was the Best! When you take your vacation put this one on the top of the list.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Pat and Carmen Woodall are wonderful hosts. They made many helpful suggestions regarding walks, galleries and restaurants. The house was beautiful and full of Pat's art work. Staying here offered an opportunity to see the real Taos that tourists often miss.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It is always such a pleasure to see when people realize how a place so close to Taos and Arroyo Seco can also be located in a area that has remained in its natural state of fruit trees, irrigated fields, soft rolling hills and the views in all four directions! From its placement on a plateau, Taos Mountain and El Salto are only a mile away, to the west you can watch the Sunset from the second story deck while having appetizers and something cool to drink! Casa Carmen is unique with a sunrise deck and sunset decks, Aspen and Evergreeen trees fully grown and offering sun and shade as you view the sites or wander anywhere the paths and walkways take you. It makes it very special for our guests!

Why the Owner Chose Arroyo Seco:
We built it To Be Natural and Within the Grove of Trees and Gardens! It was built by Pat Woodall over the course of five years with attention to every detail! Mortice, notch and tendon construction of joinery with exposed Douglas Fir Beams, sided Spruce logs and passive solar thermopane Windows on all sides make the views spectacular in all directions. White Duve covers on each bed, flannel sheets in the winter over dual control heating mattress covers make getting out of bed a little tough but when you do, oh my!
Vibrant paintings adorn the walls between the windows and a 3'x5' simulated fireplace with heated blower is located on the wall upstairs in the large parlor bedroom with a Queen Bed and Single Bed. The heat on the ground floor is hot water radiant heat under character grade Hickory floors in the living room and kitchen coupled with heated marble tile in the bedroom and full bath. Sock feet are warm and welcome. Two open decks await you upstairs, the Sunset and Sunrise Decks and a outside wooden staircase provides access to the downstairs covered wraparound portal with comfortable seating, gas grill and a walkway of a few feet to the 4 person Hot Tub. A 10 foot double door opens onto the wraparound porch and into the Solar Entry and Living Room of the Casa Carmen. Lots of parking and easy access are other amenities.
