Drinking Horse Ranch is the place to be!

Guest: Debra (Suffern)
Date of Stay: 07/24/11 Review Submitted: 08/09/11

My husband, our eight year old daughter, and I stayed at the Drinking Horse Ranch for an awesome 10 days. It was an great experience to be so close to Peter's 160 acres, his beautiful horses, and to be surrounded by such beauty. Far enough but close enough to downtown Bozeman. Our daughter enjoyed an excellent horseback riding lesson, for an additional fee. She loved it. We hiked Peter's breath taking property and ended the hike in the hot tub on the porch. Peter was kind and informative. The cabin was clean and well equipped with towels, wifi, sheets, pillow, blankets etc. My family and I like to cook at home for most meals, the only downside was that there wasn't enough cooking equipment, but we managed. I would highly recommend staying at the cabin, we can't wait to go back!

Christmas Retreat

Guest: PamLyleJ (Missoula, MT)
Date of Stay: 12/22/10 Review Submitted: 01/08/11

We were looking for something special--a place to spend Christmas week without the usual family gatherings at home. We found it here! The beauty of the cabin, the solitude of its setting, the warm hospitality of the owner were all exceptional. We cross-country skied at Bohart Ski Ranch up the canyon, at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, and on public trails in Bozeman Creek and at Hyalite Reservoir. Easy access to downtown made it convenient to visit the taprooms at Bozeman Brewing Co and Neptune Brewing (Bozeman outlet). We enjoyed grocery trips to the Co-op and pizza at Mackenzie. All in all, we had a wonderful week and would recommend it to others.

A very good family stay at Drinking Horse Ranch...

Guest: Chris (Staunton, VA)
Date of Stay: 08/11/10 Review Submitted: 08/24/10

Our family stayed at the Rockhorse cabin for a week and loved it! The cabin has the unique combination of being conveniently close to Bozeman yet secluded in a beautiful mountain valley. The cabin is spacious, comfortable and very charming. Our children loved the chickens, cat and horses that roamed the meadow. There is also a nice campfire ring and horse shoes. The only downside for families staying with young children is that the only dining space in the cabin is a bar with very tall stools. We ate most meals outside on the picnic table when the weather was nice. The beds are also on very tall platforms so there is a danger of falling for little ones that roll around. If you can come prepared it will help with the logistics of eating and sleeping with young children.

A Special Place

We had a great stay at the cabin. The views and the proximity to the mountains and Bozeman are perfect. The cabin is bigger than it appears and has everything one needs. We enjoyed each day and slept great from the first night there. Pete also showed my son a few secret hot fishing spots and we had a hard time getting him in at night. We hope to return soon.

We had a great time staying at the cabin. It is in a very good location, just minutes from downtown Boazmen. The cabin has a hot tub which is very relaxing after a day of horseback riding and hiking. My kids loved going out in the yard to see the horses, chickens and playing horseshoes. We, also, had bon fires in the evening. Very relaxing and quiet. We would stay there again. Beth Ann

My husband and I had a wonderful vacation on Rockhorse Mountain. The cabin was exceptional, it had everything you needed to feel comfortable along with being clean. There aren't enough words to describe the view of the mountains from the cabin. What really made the experience of being on Rockhorse Mountain ranch worthwhile is the host, Pete Serino. He makes you feel right at home, sharing great places to visit while in Bozeman, and some excellent eating establishments. Dave and I would like to thank Pete and his family for an awesome time in Bozeman. Dave and Ann Lepak

The pictures don't do this place justice. My husband and I just got back from our second weekend at Pete's cabin. We were there last year for our anniversary and had loved our time there. But, we had decided to try a different spot so had rented a cabin in Georgetown Lake for the weekend for just a little less than this cabin. We got there and were sorely disappointed. We go away one weekend a year to have a special romantic time alone. We had to do a little phoning to family to get Pete's number as there wasn't internet at the other cabin, but then called Pete to see if he had availability for the weekend still. We will not make that mistake again. We had another wonderfully relaxing weekend at the Rockhorse cabin. It was an expensive lesson but we were quite pleased that Pete was able to accomodate us. As in other reviews Pete is a wonderful host, there but not intrusive. The grounds are well maintained with the most amazing hiking trails just outside your door. It's quite a climb but worth every step when you reach the top and see the views. We will be back again. The property is everything you see in the photos and more. The cabin is kept in emaculate condition. You can be in Bozeman in minutes for last minute shopping or dining out. It has it all, hot tub, gas fireplace for romantic evening, grill, horseshoes, hiking, nicely detailed interior.

We still can't believe our good fortune at finding this place. Peter's perfectly appointed cabin (and hot tub!) was the perfect lodging for a weekend of cross country skiing and relaxation. In-between the awesome Hobart ski area and the nearby town of Bozeman, this charming cabin had it all. Thanks for a great weekend!

Loved this place

Guest: Jean B. (Minneapolis, MN)
Date of Stay: 12/26/09 Review Submitted: 01/10/10

We stayed here the week of Christmas 2009 and plan to be back again and again. The location of the cabin sits in a valley about 4 miles outside of historic downtown Bozeman. And, if you continue up the road another 10 miles you are at Bridger Bowl ski area (FAB!!) or Bohart Ranch for cross country skiiers. We didn't make it x-country skiing, but our friends who went said it was "spiritual." (and, one is an attorney from Chicago!!) The setting is out of a movie - small herd of horses underneath Quaking Aspen; mountain river out the door running the length of the property; Rocky Mountain views each way you turn your head. WOW!! The cabin (remodeled house feels like a cabin) is not done justice by the pictures. The living room is much more spacious than is appears in the pictures, but is as comfortable as it looks. Each day after skiing we had visions of going into town and having dinner. But, the combination of the flat screen tv, fireplace, comfortable sofa and McKenzie River pizza brought in - we never left the cabin. Above all else, a good night's sleep is the most important thing of all when I consider satisfaction with a lodging. If I don't have a good night's sleep, I am not a happy camper, and nothing else matters. This place was as good as home for me. Because you are out in a valley in the mountains, there is not a sound to be heard, The beds were fabulous!! The mattresses were the perfect combination of firm yet soft. The sheets were good quality and the down comforter was just the right weight. We also were provided two choices of pillows - down or firm. Really, there is just nothing that was over looked! The kitchen had everything we needed. It has a gas stove (great if you have the energy to cook!), dishwasher, large refrigerator, plenty of coffee cups and wine glasses. Having the convenience of a fully stocked kitchen is one of the main reasons we like to rent homes for our vacation stays. For us, having a great cup of coffee and some fresh fruit without having to leave the comfort of your slippers is the ideal way to start a day. Pete, the owner of the property, is a gracious host. As this is his 160 acre ranch, he is on the premises, but not intrusive in any way. His home sits away from this cabin, and you come and go as you please. And, if you need anything he is there to assist. All in all, I really couldn't recommend this place more highly. We loved it, and plan on coming back.

Wow! What a wonderful way to relax after a busy summer! Even though Bozeman is a stones throw away, I stayed put and enjoyed the hot tub, inviting fireplace, and comfy bed! Unfortunately, 12 inches of snow kept me from getting a hike or a horseback ride in the beautiful surrounding area. I guess that means I will be back. Thanks to Pete for a wonderful stay! Olivia

What can one say.....but wonderful! We needed to get out of town for a couple of days to hibernate and we sure found the right place! The cabin is cozy, comfy and peaceful! You are 5 miles from town but would never know it. Pete the owner is a super person to deal with and the property is beautiful...so much to do and see! We plan on going back in the early summer for some fishing and trail-riding. Thanks again Pete for sharing a piece of your heaven! A MUST to see and enjoy!! A big thumbs up from us folks here in Billings!

I stayed in this lovely cabin an entire summer. It's peaceful, bucolic, yet only 5 miles from Bozeman. The setting is lovely with some of Pete's horses in the view-shed, and I thoroughly enjoyed my summer there. It is an extraordinary combination of rural and sophistication.

This is my idea of a dude ranch! The cabin is impressive and well furnished...including wi-fi. The ranch is about 5 minutes from town so you can cook in or dine out at many great restaurants. It's a lovely property where you can find just about any activity you desire. The horses are the friendliest we've ever encountered..they even followed us up the sledding hill for attention. We visited over Christmas break and had a wonderful time. Exceptional scenery, a great host, beautiful accommodations, convenient location....it can't get any beter than this!

A Montana vacation paradise

We stayed here for a week as a temporary home before permanently relocating to Bozeman. It could not have been a more wonderful experience. The house has everything you need -- HD-tv, hot tub, great kitchen, spacious bedrooms with COMFORTABLE pillows and beds, washer/dryer...The outside areas are relaxed and comfortable with a tipi for kids to play in and a small stream nearby for exploring among the cattails. The owners live on the property, and are available if something is needed, but they give you complete and total privacy. There is hiking and some wonderful mountain views. I am recommended that all of my friends stay here when they come to visit. A wonderful place to experience the best of Montana.

Perfect location, accomodations & host

Date of Stay: 08/01/08 Review Submitted: 08/12/08

This was our first trip to Montana and both the cabin and the host of the property were fantastic! Our experience in this beautiful part of the country was made all the more enjoyable by the convenient location, less than 13 miles from the airport and within 6 miles of downtown Bozeman, but far enough away to make you feel as if you are isolated in your own little section of the beautiful Bridger Canyon. The cabin itself was clean, well maintained, furnished with updated amenities including wireless internet and flat panel television, and full service kitchen to do your own cooking should you desire. If you prefer not to cook for yourself, you are in luck because you are literally just 15 minutes away from a great selection of restaurants with all styles and types of food for you to enjoy. In addition, because the cabin is located on the larger ranch of the owner of the property, you are able to enjoy horseback riding, hiking and other amenities listed without ever leaving the property. Just as important to all of this, the host was engaging and determined to make us feel comfortable and relaxed with our stay on the property. A truly wonderful experience that I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to experience this part of the country.

We had a wonderfull week at the cabin. The decor and its' proximity to town are perfect. The scenery was awsome. When you can have coffee on the porch in the morning & look at the mountains, not to mention deer & moose, how can it get any better. The scenery on the trail rides were quite spectacular as well. We will definately be back. Dan & Cory

I was looking for something totally different than what Vegas has to offer. Sometimes you just get sick of the loud cars and people; there is hardly any silence. Now, coming to Bozeman, and staying in this delightful cabin, I have found this long-awaited silence. I had the time of my life, as I was taught how to ride a horse for the first time in my life. Oh, pure bliss! I've never really been interested in winter sports, but the slopes are amazing to gaze upon. I would highly recommend your stay at Rockhorse Cabins. Yee-haw!
