Crystal Lake is a 45 acre spring fed private lake located 15 minutes from Elk Mountain ski resort. This peaceful crystal clear lake is visible from the large family room picture window of our home. Our one story 2,800 sq ft lakefront home was built in 1947 with art deco decor.
The kitchen has all new appliances with stainless steel counter tops. Next to the kitchen is a large dining table and a walk out to a large patio. On the patio is a large picnic table and patio furniture (Summer). A working fireplace is located in the family room with cable TV access. Three bedrooms have queen sized beds and one has two twin beds. Two bedrooms have private half baths while two others share a half bath. There is a large shower with changing area located in the hallway. A washing machine and dryer are available during warmer months.
In the Summer, you can enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water, sunbathing, fishing, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, wake boarding, and tubing (one motorboat is allowed on the lake with prior approval). You may prefer to just relax on the lakefront dock or take a leisurely walk, run or bike along the scenic 2.8 mile road that outlines the perimeter of the lake.
For something more challenging, you can mountain bike or hike Elk Mountain, or bike the over 40 miles of Rail-Trails that run throughout the region. For the golf enthusiast, there are five public golf courses within 6 miles, including the nearby Scottish Glen, a 9-hole course situated on the lake with beautiful views of Elk Mountain. Many of the area courses cost less than $20 for 18 holes of golf.
While the beauty, peacefulness and water/winter sports offered by Crystal Lake and Elk Mountain are the draw, there are many other activities in the area. There are dozens of antique stores, particularly in the Fleetville area. One of the largest and most well known is The Carriage Barn, which has been featured in Country Living Magazine. Shopping is plentiful in Dickson City just 25 minutes away (20 miles). Here you'll find Veiwmont Mall, anchored by Macy’s, JC Penny’s and Sears, and many discount stores, such as, Target, Wal-mart, Sam’s, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, K-mart, Best Buy and Wegman’s. You will also find many popular chain restaurants in this area, such as, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Pizzeria Uno, Friday’s and more. There are movie theaters and bowling alleys as well. In nearby Scranton, the Steamtown Mall (23 miles) and the new upscale outlet mall, Shoppes at Montage (29 miles), are also great for shopping.
Local restaurants on the lake include Crystal Pines, Oliveri’s and Fern Hall. Many others are located nearby in Carbondale, Union Dale, Clarks Summit and Scranton, all with-in a short 5 to 25 minute drive.
Other attractions include, Sno Cove Water Park (opening in 2008), the Lackawanna Coal Mile Tour, Scranton Iron Furnaces, Steamtown National Historic Site, the Houdini Museum, Scranton Cultural Center, Electric Car Trolley Station & Museum, Anthracite Heritage Museum, Lackawanna State Park and the Archibald Pothole State Park. PNC field in Scranton is home to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, the Class-AAA Minor League Baseball affiliate of the New York Yankees.
In the fall, you will enjoy the foliage and quiet peacefulness of the lake. There are also a number of local events including Oktoberfest at Elk Mountain and the Steamtown Marathon.
The main draw in winter is skiing and snowboarding at Elk Mountain, Pennsylvania’s finest ski resort with 1000 feet of vertical drop and 100% snowmaking coverage. The recently expanded Sno Mountain, formerly Montage, is also located nearby (30 miles) just off Route 81. The lake and surrounding area are great for ice-skating, cross-country skiing, sledding and ice fishing. The nearby Rail-Trails are also great for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. NEP Sno Trails grooms the trail system in the winter and issues trail passes that are required for snowmobiling. |
