This beautifully frescoed house is located on a hill surrounded by vineyards and orchards and overlooks the upscale town of Imola in the Emelia Romagna region. Only a few miles out of Tuscany, this area has the beauty of Tuscany without the large number of visitors.
The house, frescoed and with antiques in every room, has two very large living rooms, four large and airy corner bedrooms and one smaller single room, three new baths, formal dining room, and eat-in kitchen. The grounds include a private chapel, a lovely rose garden, vineyards, as well as apricot, cherry, pear, and plum orchards.
Wonderful neighborhood trattorias and osterias are a walk or five minute drive away. More sophisticated dining is just ten minutes away in Imola (including the two-star San Domenico) and in Bologna (lasagna was invented here). The seafood in the Adriatic beach towns is terrific.
Built in 1860, the house has a rich history, including being occupied by German Army Officers in World War II. Half an hour away is the very moving mountain monument to the 88th Army Division's (Blue Devils) heroic stand on Mount Battaglia, as well as several beautiful Allied cemetaries.
Dozza, a tiny village filled with outdoor art, is the most picturesque village I have seen in Italy - and is eight minutes away. This is only one of the many unspoiled villages near the house.
