Lutsen's Cutest Vacation Home - 1/2 a Mile to the Ski Hills!
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Who needs the hassle and expense of flying when you can drive someplace spectacular in just a few hours? Hop in the car and head 'up north', it's a beautiful drive and there's no extra charge for your luggage!
Enjoy a charming 3 bedroom, 2 bath private home as your home base in this recreational paradise. Lutsen's ski hills are just 1/2 a mile up Ski Hill Road, you can see the ski runs from the master bedroom window. This is the best skiing in Midwest! Cross country ski, snowshoe or take dog sled and sleigh rides along Lake Superior at nearby Lutsen Resort. Miles of scenic snowmobile trails through beautiful forests are nearby and easily accessible.
Hundreds of miles of spectacular hiking trails criss cross the forests and mountains. Mountain biking and horseback riding are available at the top of the hill. Kids of all ages will love the Alpine Slide just up the road. Ride the Gondola to the top of Moose Mountain and have lunch on the deck of the chalet, it's a spectacular view! Golfers, Superior National Golf course offers 27 holes of beautiful scenery and challenging golf right across Ski Hill Road. Bikers, the new Gitche Gami bike path lets you ride all the way to Schroeder even passing over the waterfalls of Temperance River Park. Enjoy a smooth ride on a dedicated path not shared with motorists, what a nice addition to the north shore.
Our home was professionally decorated and it's very comfortably furnished. The master bedroom suite offers a private retreat after a hard day at play. There's a whirlpool for two and a private bath and every window offers a beautiful view of mountains, trees or Lake Superior.
Set in the trees on with no buildings behind it to block the view. Every window that faces the lake has a view of the lake as does the covered deck and screen porch. There's a fire ring to gather around for evenings under the stars and let me tell you, they are spectacular here. It's the ideal vacation home for families and friends. Close to everything you love about the north shore, but away from the crowded resorts.

We stayed in this cabin last summer, and many months later we all still recall it fondly. It was comfortable, cute, and clean, and met our family of 6 needs perfectly. We loved the screened porch for breakfasts (view of the lake while we ate), and found the kitchen adequately stocked with everything we needed. Our girls loved playing the games on hand during our downtime, and the bedroom configuration allowed us to be up after the kids were asleep for the night. It was also great to have 2 bathrooms and a washer and dryer. The location is excellent- just a minute or two from both the lake and the ski hill (where we spent the day doing the Alpine Slides and riding the gondola for a lunch break). All in all, everything was perfect and we will definitely be back... maybe to ski next time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It is always wonderful to hear our guests found our home to be a perfect fit for their vacation. We're happy you appreciated the floorplan, it is ideal for families and friends vacationing together, everyone has space for rest and common areas to share in the fun of games, movies, meals and campfires. Lutsen has lots to do and being close to it all makes the most of vacation time. That's true in every season. We hope you return to enjoy it in the winter too, it's every bit as beautiful. Thanks for sharing your comments on your stay.

Delightfully pleasant, wonderfully warm and quiet ski/vacation/retreat cabin. Well stocked kitchen allowed us the chance to prepare creative and delicious meals. Comfortable great room - dining area - kitchen led to pleasant hours of relaxation and "shutting out the world" time. Would recommend this to anyone wanting some peace and solitude from a hectic world...Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We love hearing our guests enjoyed sharing meals and spending time as a family in our Lutsen vacation home. There is so much to do outdoors up north but at the end of the day, a cozy home to return to rest up makes a trip more comfortable and memorable. We hope you'll come again, you'd love it in any season.

My husband and I and another couple stayed here Thurs.-Sun. for a long weekend of hiking and relaxation. We had excellent weather and the fall colors could not have been more beautiful. We had been in Lutsen several times before and wanted try to stay together in one cabin. There was plenty of room for all of us. The home was exactly as pictured. It was very clean and had everything you would need. It was a comfortable place to return to have a great meal and relax after our hikes. We made several fantastic meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The only one negative would be that it would have been more comfortable to have had a queen size bed vs a double bed in the second main floor bedroom-but that wouldn't stop us from returning again. Jo, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. We had a fabulous time and would definitely recommend this property. Thanks for sharing your home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My three friends of 40 plus years traveled from 3 states to enjoy four days together in this comfortable, cheerful home. We loved cooking and eating in the sunny kitchen/living room and spent hours sitting on the open porch talking, reading and knitting. The decor of each bedroom is charming, and only one requires climbing stairs. We felt well rested each morning. The location, just 20 miles from Grand Marais and 8 from Tofte, gave us wonderful "dining out" options, and the Lutsen General Store had movies to rent.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Sounds delightful ladies! We love the porch, every home should have one. Having the option to cook some meals in is a great way to save vacation dollars but being close enough to enjoy a meal in Grand Marais or one of Bluefin's great restaurants is wonderful too. So glad you and your friends had a chance to enjoy some time together "up north" in Lutsen.

We had three couples meeting up in Lutsen for a catch-up weekend and wanted one cabin that could fit all of us, so we could have quality time. So happy we found this listing! The cabin is so comfy! Plenty of room for all of us to settle in! We had board game night by the fire, breakfast on the porch (so big, we call it porchasaurus!) and s'mores by the fire pit. It is a great location too. We went up to the Alpine Slide and gondola at Lutsen. The boys went disc golfing at two course. We hiked Oberg trail and hit the beach at Cut Face. We even got into Grand Marais for dinner on Friday. After check out on Sunday, we were able to stop at a few shops, Split Rock, Cross River and Gooseberry Falls on the way back to the Cities. It was a great weekend! Exactly what we were looking for. Jo was so easy to work with and gave great, detailed, info on the property. It was well-stocked with supplies, so we just had to bring our belongings, food and fire-building items. So easy! Also, Jo, we cannot thank you enough for the heads up on the meteor shower. We watched the shooting stars for hours!! We would absolutely recommend this cabin.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so happy you got to have some quality time with old friends. Having comfortable gathering spaces is one of the best things about choosing a private home over individual rooms. We love hearing how "comfy" people find our home, it is our goal to make it a wonderful place to rest after being out playing hard all day. Lucky you to have hit the weekend of the Perseid Meteor shower on a clear night. Stargazing aroung the fire is always great, you got in on the best!! We hope you'll have a chance to return, maybe you'll hit a Northern Lights show next time, that's awesome too.

Our group had a wonderful time this weekend. It was the perfect fit for 3 couples. The cabin is even more beautiful than the photos show. It's incredibly close to Lutsen Resort and just a short drive from Grand Marais, but you really don't even have to leave the cabin to have a great time. We would all recommend this place to anyone looking for a North Shore getaway!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Lindsay for taking the time to write a review for our home. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We hope you'll come again, it's beautiful there in every season.

My wife and I have stayed at this home in Lutsen three years in a row with two other couples. We just returned and can't say enough about the home. Their home is always in perfect condition. It truly feels like you're staying in your own home. It has worked great for three couples and would work great for a family vacation too. It's a great location, close to Lutsen Mountain Ski Resort, Grand Marais and Lake Superior. I'd like to thank the owners for another great vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Scott for your kind words and your continued support. We are always happy to hear how much people enjoy our home and the great location. Bob and Jo

My family enjoyed our weekend very much. Very clean, well stocked, and beautiful decor through-out. Cabin is an understatement for this beautiful home. Very peaceful the moment you walk in the front door, you feel like you could stay here forever and never leave. all expectations exceeded. The skiing was memorable for the boys, ate at Sven and Oles for dinner when we got there on friday night.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the great reviews! We are so happy to hear from the people that are getting a chance to stay in our Lutsen home. This winter was a great one for all snow sports enthusiasts with LOTS of snow to play in all winter. We're looking forward to the impact all of that snow melting will have on the area's many rivers, all of those dramatic waterfalls will be roaring soon. Make plans for a spring stay now, the rates are great and the rivers will be amazing!

About the owner: If you have never tried snowshoeing, you don't know what you are missing! We are often the only people out on the trails and we can go anywhere we can hike, no need for a groomed trail. The beauty of the area is always there but there's something really special about seeing it all coated in snow. The bare trees allow for views you don't see in the summer. Strap on some snowshoes on your next winter trip and see for yourself, it's amazing!
Why the Owner Chose Lutsen:
We go to the north shore as often as we can, sometimes several times a year. We finally decided owning a home 'up north' made sense for us so we bought a vacation home in Lutsen. Of all the areas along the north shore, Lutsen has the most activities nearby making it a great place to go for an active vacation. We love to hike, snowshoe, golf and of course, watch the 'big lake', all of which we can do within 1/2 a mile of our home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our home is one of only 12 homes that share 20 acres, it's not part of a resort so it's quiet and private but still really close to everything we love to do in Lutsen. We appreciate being out on our screen porch or deck and seeing trees and the lake, not other buildings. What made us fall in love with it is the decor. The home was built in 2001 and decorated right after September 11th so the builder's professional decorators chose a red and white and blue color scheme, it's very colorful and so unique. When we say it's cute, it really is, people love staying here.
