This charming vacation home was finished in June of 2007. It is just 20 minutes outside of the beautiful university town of Salamanca and 45 minutes from Portugal in the heart of Castilla Leon. This is a true tranquil getaway. The home is located in Robliza de Cojos, a tiny Spanish village with a population of only 217 habitants. However, many Spaniards own vacation homes in town so that number multiplies greatly in the summer.
Robliza de Cojos is located in the heart of the Campo Charro, home of the toro bravo (the Spanish bull). The gently rolling landscapes dotted with oak trees and sunflower fields are mesmerizing and remind you of what Spain must of been like hundreds of years ago. Robliza has just two bars (one with a restaurant), a daily bread baker, a butcher and a small market. The church bells still call people to mass and often you can watch the cattle graze the field right in front of the master bedroom. In summer the town is full of families and the hub of social activity is the town pool which is a beautifully cared for 50 meter pool with an outdoor bar and soccer court. Robliza is a journey back to a simpler time where families go out for an evening stroll and the kids ride their bikes freely in the streets.
If this peace and quite gets to be to much 'tranquilidad' the bustling town of Salamanca is an easy twenty minutes from town. Known as home to the oldest university in Spain and the most beautiful Plaza Mayor, it is the perfect place to shop, sightsee and enjoy a cup of cafe con leche, or go out for tapas. Salamanca is filled with monuments, museums, concerts and cultural expositions.
Robliza is also a great base for day trips. Here are just a few of the wonderful places you can visit and the approximate drive time:
Avila (1 hr) Segovia (1.5 hrs) Zamora (1 hr) Ribera del Duero (2 hrs) Madrid (2.5 hrs) Ciudad Rodrigo (45 min) La Alberca (45 min) Zaragoza - Site for 2008 World Expo (5 hrs)
If you are looking for a quiet cultural getaway this is the place for you. You will be hard pressed to find any other tourists in Robliza. Our home was designed with all of the modern American comforts in mind. It has central heating and ceiling fans in all of the bedrooms. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with an large built in shower and double sinks. The other two bedrooms are connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom with double sinks and a separate tub and shower. The third bath has a tiled built in shower. We have high-speed internet, a printer, a work area, an open floor plan, large bedrooms and bathrooms and a well-equipped gourmet kitchen. There are over 40 square meters of covered porch and outdoor dining areas where we often grill with friends and family. We are still in the process of landscaping and will have that complete in July 2008. Rentals will be available any time after August 9, 2008. More pictures are available upon request. |
