Wonderful place to stay

Guest: Stephanie S.
Date of Stay: 04/22/12 Review Submitted: 05/01/12

The pictures and description were accurate and the property was very clean. I was worried about closet space, but the cabinet next to the bathroom was equipped with hangers and enough space for a weeks worth of clothes. We met Maggie on our first morning while we were walking our dog, and she is a lovely person. The views of the mountains at sunset were incredible!! We also had hot air ballons every morning. Our dog enjoyed chasing the lizards and laying in the sun on the deck. The hot tub was very enjoyable. We would book this adorable place again and would recommend it to our friends. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is a good idea as the road leading to the home is ROUGH!!, but well worth the drive. Our favorite restaurant was Grahams!! We had a wonderful breakfast on the patio (dog friendly) and lunch again the next day. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, located in Angel Fire, is an experience that everyone should take the time to see. My husband is a Vietnam Veteran and we were both moved by the Memorial. Thanks to Mary and Maggie we had a lovely stay and are looking forward to another trip to Taos in the near future.

Our stay was very nice. The casita is warm and comfortable. The owners are very helpful and nice. Even though it's located outside of town, access to Taos and ski valley is easy and quick.

Perfect!

Guest: Marsha (Texas)
Date of Stay: 12/16/11 Review Submitted: 01/10/12

This is a fabulous place to stay to unwind and relax. The setting is exquisite with views from each window that are picture worthy. I was looking for a place to retreat and recharge from the hustle and bustle of big city life and found it! Maggie was friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. The casita is neat, clean, and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was well appointed and had many thoughtfully chosen tools, pots, and pans. I cooked a number of meals while I was there. The star-gazing in the hot tub each evening was an added bonus. The property is in a "dark sky" area (meaning that the ambient light is kept low) so the stars are much more easily visible. If you are looking for a retreat or a base of operations for a trip to Taos, this is the spot!

Great Expectations

Guest: Ken (Northern Colorado)
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 11/28/11

Our expectations from the photos and descriptions were very high--and all were met. It's hard to find a casita with a full bath and a full kitchen, and both were exqisite. Mary was an exceptional hostess. We especially liked the location, down a private lane on the mesa overlooking the valley. So quiet--and because it's in an area that cherishes the stars, the neighbors keep their lights out at night. OMG--the milky way was spectacular--and the sunset with a sliver moon and Venus setting. What do they say about Taos...enchanting? Very. Leather furniture, a comfy bed and a very convenient and wise use of space in the casita made our four nights very warm and welcoming. We reveled in the "Frida" art theme--the movie was even provided to cap it off. We arrived the night before thanksgiving and packed in our groceries. We were so grateful for the full-size fridge and gas range. And the completely stocked spice selection capped it off. The checklist: accurate description, check; photos clearly reflecting the experinece, check; clean and well maintained, check; owner helpful, double check; recommend? check. Recommendations: Walk the placita, see the galleries--they're everywhere. Do the gorge. Find a nearby hike (Mary gave us a book of local trails). Ask a local about the restaurants! Shop at Cid's grocery--a full service organic supermarket. And relax, no risk in choosing this casita. So, privacy, peace and quiet, and the owner just a few paces away. What a great combination.

Beautiful casita and beautiful views

Guest: Pauline S.
Date of Stay: 10/20/11 Review Submitted: 10/23/11

This place is amazing. We wanted to stay out of town and Maggie and Mary's casita fit the bill. It is beautifully decorated and well supplied. The owners are close by, friendly and helpful but allow you a lot of privacy. Maggie was very helpful about giving us suggestions on where to go for great photography outings. It's only about a 15 minute drive into Taos. The views to the west were stunning - we saw hot air balloons flying in the Rio Grande gorge. The night skies are incredible and you can see wildlife if you keep your eyes and ears open. It is a great base for exploring the area and driving the Enchanted Circle. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting the peace and tranquility of being in the country but close enough to Taos for dinner, shopping and entertainment. Pauline and Kevin Simpson. My husband and I decided to take a "leave the city" vacation in Taos and chose Maggie and Mary's casita as our home away from home. It truly was that! It has EVERYTHING you need, it is relaxing, quiet, private and the views were great. It truly makes you appreciate the beauty of the natural surroundings and you will NOT want to leave. The kitchen was well equipped and we never lacked a thing! AWESOME things come in small packages. As we drove away we vowed to return. What a pleasure and honor it was to stay on this property. Thanks to Mary and Maggie for the hospitality!

My husband and I took our first vacation to Taos and we were so impressed with this casita. It had everything we needed and just as described. The casita was very clean and well-maintained. The perfect place to relax and look at the stars at night. We definitely loved that it was outside the city but still close enough where we could be at the shops or a restaurant in 10 minutes. Mary was great to deal with and very professional. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

This is the kind of place that sticks in your head and makes you want to go back...and back...and back again. It was spotless, beautifully decorated, peaceful and the views both day and night were killer. The best night's sleep we've had in ages and the best water we've ever drunk. Our hosts were attentive without being intrusive and all I can say is "bravo"! We'll be back.

Good things DO come in small packages and while other guests have eloquently expressed comparable sentiments, we still feel compelled to add ours to the growing list. This little house has it all: gracious, welcoming hosts who respect one's privacy; soothing vistas from both inside and out; cozy, comfortable furnishings and art wherever the eye comes to rest. After soaking up the skies, the sunshine and the miles of open space, we came away rested and rejuvenated, our souls once more intact. This is so much more than a place to sleep and eat - it's a home-away-from-home. This was our first visit to Maggie and Mary's casita but it definitely will not be our last.

My husband and I were here in late September and thoroughly enjoyed this remote and charming adobe casita by the mountains! The furnishings were so comfortable and artistically appealing. We enjoyed the amazing night sky and the back deck and hot tub were the perfect touch. Great for birdwatching and relaxing and so close to wonderful restaurants, shops, hiking and other outdoor activities. The owners are very friendly. We hope to be back soon!

We have been traveling using VRBO for a few years now and when visiting Taos, this casita is our favorite place to stay. The smell of sage in the air after a summer rain, easterly views of the colorful Sangre de Cristo mountains in the fall, wide open space to the west and the star filled nights make this casita a perfect retreat. Looking forward to our next visit!

My husband and I stayed at the casita in September while in Taos for a family reunion. The owners, Mary and Maggie, are delightful hosts. The casita is very clean and well maintained. The interior is charming, comfortable and wants for nothing. The listing photos and description were accurate. The casita would be suitable for a family with one small child. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider renting it again.

Returning to Taos

Guest: Carolyn (Oklahoma City, OK)
Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 09/13/10

My wife and I finally found the perfect place to stay in Taos. After 10 years of staying in good places, we found a place that provides everything we wanted. Sunrises over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains: watching hot air balloons bobbing in and out of the Royal Gorge while drinking our coffee. The high desert breezes come from the mountains in the morning and back to the mountains at night. We were far enough from town that the lights of Taos don’t block the high desert sky at night. We had forgotten how beautiful the night sky is. Taos, John Dunn Bridge, Seco Arroyo, the ski area or Red River were close at hand. The owners live next door and introduced us to their neighbors. We felt right at home. We have recommended this spot to our friends and relatives.

Guest: Mary Ann (Overland Park, KS)
Date of Stay: 05/08/10 Review Submitted: 08/20/10

My friend and I stayed at the casita in May 2010, along with our two terriers. We loved our accommodations and felt very fortunate that we stumbled upon it in our search for places to stay in Taos. It was almost like being at home; we felt so comfortable. Everything was so clean and well-maintained, and Maggie was so helpful and friendly. The location was great and the views were fantastic. We definitely would recommend this to anyone visiting Taos, and hope very much to stay there again, ourselves. A day trip to Santa Fe was very easy, and on another day we really enjoyed visiting Bandolier National Monument.

My wife and I were searching VRBO exhaustively for the perfect anniversary rental and this was it! When we arrived, the owners were very welcoming and helpful in getting us settled. We felt completely relaxed and at home on the mesa. The evening views from the hot tub couldn't have been better. And they were pet friendly! There were miles of open space for our dog to roam around, but mostly she enjoyed lounging on the porch. The casita is very private and great for a getaway. We will surely be back!

BEST VACATION EVER

Guest: User (Princess Anne, MD USA)
Date of Stay: 07/02/09 Review Submitted: 07/14/09

We absolutely loved this little home! Superbly decorated! The kitchen was well stocked with everything a cook would need. We slept well every night, the mattress was unbelievably comfortable rivaling our Temperpedic bed at home. Summer nights in Taos are cool and Maggie is right, you do not need air conditioning! The hot tub was great for relaxing after a long day of hiking, and the shower was roomy with great water pressure. Taos & the surronding area is beautiful we had a great week and hope to come back some day!

Is it possible to be homesick for a vacation spot?

Guest: Kathryn and Rob (Maine)
Date of Stay: 11/29/08 Review Submitted: 12/29/08

Whenever we find a gem of a vacation spot, we're always tempted to keep it our little secret. But we've gotten in touch with our generous sides and decided to share the fact that Mary and Maggie's casita is FANTASTIC. In early December, my husband and I enjoyed a week's visit at the casita, and we've been raving about our trip -- and the hospitality -- ever since. The casita is even cosier than it looks in the pictures -- with the warm tile floors, comfy leather couches, and amazing views from the French doors, we found it hard to get up and out each day. But it's also the perfect starting point for adventures in the area. With Maggie's guidance, we visited Wild Rivers and Bandelier; it's a relatively easy drive to Santa Fe and Albuquerque, too. And best of all, it's really close to the Taos Diner, our favorite spot for breakfast. While my husband and I always have a long list of "new" places that we want to see, we'd come back to Taos and the casita in a heartbeat. (Maggie, next time Rob will take you up on that fishing offer!) Thanks for a wonderful getaway -- looking forward to next time!

Perfect get away spot. Casita was extremely clean and well furnished and stocked with all kitchen needs. The hot tub is fabulous on cold nights with amazing views of the stars. Very quiet and secluded and perfect for a couple or couple with a baby, not any older. When exiting Mesa Sea Road turn left, instead of right to the main road, and go to the Rio Grande Gorge, its amazing.

Fantastic getaway - Clean, Beautiful, Private

Guest: rosemary bailey brown (Portsmouth RI)
Date of Stay: 09/28/08 Review Submitted: 09/28/08

This guesthouse is beautiful. Everything feels new and *very* clean. The view is spectacular. They even thoughtfully turned on the hot-tub to warm up for my arrival. It's perfect for one person or a couple, but no more than that. The casita has WIFI Internet and a landline -- there's no charge for calls made within the US. Although the deck is private and the main view unobstructed, there are small adobe houses on both sides, so it's not utterly private. The owners of the main house have three friendly dogs who run fairly freely outside - I liked this but some might not. I strongly advise you arrive during daylight because the road to get here is not paved, in mediocre shape, and winds a lot. I would not want to drive it for the first time at night. However, the good news is, the directions are quite clear and it's findable via GPS. (I used a Tom Tom.) I'll definitely revisit this guesthouse the next time I'm in the area!

We enjoyed our stay made special by the people near by. The property was everything in the description. Short drive to Taos and ski valley, coyotes at night, alpaca babies during the day, rainbows bigger than you've ever seen. Warning! Do not expect to drive your Corvette into here. Average car OK slowly, SUV with clearance better.
