Guests enter Marisombra through the wrought iron gates leading into the walled inner courtyard and pool area. The design of Marisombra encourages outdoor living space, with a patio dining room and lots of open terrace with hammocks and rockers.

The air conditioned living/kitchen area faces toward the patio (with views to the ocean as well) as do the three air conditioned bedrooms on the first floor. The Master Bedroom(air conditioned) on the second floor opens onto a spacious terrace with views toward the ocean and the inner courtyard; it also enjoys its own private balcony toward the Pacific. Sit inside the circular tower to enjoy the sounds and breezes from the ocean or climb to the third story of the tower and be at eye level with the howler monkeys.

Close to the beach (50 yards) but nestled under the forest canopy, Marisombra guests will have the best of both Sea and Shade.

Handmade mahogany doors, windows, cabinets and furniture; ceiling fans and Moroccan chandeliers; a waterspout, tiled chess board and volleyball net in the pool; dining room al fresco; circular "turret style" staircase to the second floor terrace; locally made banana fiber couch and chairs; and many more details make this a house unlike any other.

Only 50 yards from the white sand Playa Iguana on the Pacific Ocean, surfers will enjoy the world class breaks of Colorado (100yards south) and Panga Drops (300 yards north).

Marisombra is located in the gated community of Hacienda Iguana, so guests enjoy privileges as members, including the 9 hole course and Golf Clubhouse with its beachside pool. The closed community abounds with wildlife including iguanas, howler monkeys, and leatherback turtles who come to lay their eggs on the beach in season.

  • What a place for a vacation! Not only is the beach great for surfers, it is safe for body surfing, children, and sand castles. I was fascinated by the skittering sand crabs, the howler monkeys next door and the friendly staff. My favorite room is the tower. Rapunzel couldn't have had a cozier place to read and meditate. My bedroom was steps away from the private pool where I played chess, volleyball and just wallowed in the sun.

  • What an ideal spot for total relaxation! The house is lovely with a beautiful courtyard and interesting nooks for curling up with a good book...a great feeling of privacy and yet easy access to the beach. The staff was efficient and very welcoming. I highly recommend Casa Marisombra and will hope to return.

  • We stayed at Marisombra for 7 days and enjoyed every minute. Cool breezes blowing through the house, great food and just a few steps away from the beach. I highly recommend getting the food plan...more time to relax and enjoy the surf. From the house it is just a short walk to the beach where you can check the surf at Colorado and Panga Drops. But if the swell is up...you will hear it from the house! Highly recommended.
