Accommodations:  Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 5)

Stay with us on your first and last night in Costa Rica. Just minutes to and from the airport, our guest house is the most comfortable alternative to big chain hotels and perfect for travelers who need a convenient location, close to the international airport, and to major towns in the Central Valley, such as San José, Santa Ana, Alejuela, Heredia, and Escazu.

Although our guest house is in an urban setting, it has a rural feeling, surrounded by lush vegetation and with a great view of the mountains. Visitors love the warm and rustic feeling of the wood and rock architectural details of our cabin. Has the feel of a typical vacation cottage in North America; it´s very cosy but not too small to share with friends and family. We strive to keep it immaculately clean.

Visitors also enjoy HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET in the guest house and on our property. We recently installed a TV with cable, and there are many stations both in English and Spanish.
Light housekeeping is provided for renters who stay more than 2 nights.

We keep the kitchen stocked with basic food items so visitors can make breakfast without having to go shopping. These include: tropical fruits, bread, butter, coffee, tea, milk, sugar, salt, cooking oil, eggs, and breakfast cereal. Or if you prefer, we also offer breakfast served on our terrace. Let us know what you prefer.

Taxi service is available and bus routes to get to San José, Heredia or Alejuela are just a block away.

Just a five-minute walk away is a shopping center where there are banks, a grocery store, many restaurants with a variety of cuisines such as Japanese, Brazilian, Mexican and Costa Rican, and coffee shops and a gelateria (italian ice cream).

Why the Owner Chose La Ribera de Belen

This guest house was designed by Luis, and built in 2005 to fulfill our family´s need for a place to recieve visitors, both family and friends. We´ve also offered our guest house for families needing a place for the birth of their babies; several babies have been born in it. A couple years ago, we decided to rent it out through vrbo to supplement our family´s income.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

The area of San Antonio de Belén and La Ribera are considered among the finest neighborhoods to live in in Costa Rica. Unlike the rest of Costa Rica, the roads are in excellent condition. Almost everything you´d want is close at hand, such as a variety of supermarkets, fresh fruit and veggie markets, restaurants, beauty salons, recreation centres, shopping and cinemas, artesania, churches and community centres. The people of San Antonio and La Ribera are active and social; you can see many men and women out walking, running or cycling on the streets every day. It is considered a safe area, so you don´t have to be overly concerned about security, although we recommend locking your doors, closing the gate securely behind you and being careful when you take money out of the ATM machine that you´re not being watched and not carrying a lot of cash on you.

Because we are so close to the airport, there are many rent-a-car agencies close by. If you do decide to rent a vehicle, you can ask the agency to drop off and /or pick up yoru vehicle here at the guest house, at no additional charge.

Behind our property, there is a beautiful private country club where we are members. For a small entrance fee, our guests enjoy full use of the facilities which include swimming pools, jacuzi and sauna, tennis and squash courts, a fully-equiped gym, mini golf, rollerskating and skateboarding rink and expansive picnic areas with covered ranches and playgrounds for children. We highly recommend that you make use of the club; during the week it´s practically empty and on the weekends it gets busy.

Owner's Map of La Ribera de Belen

A native Torontonian, Marie left for England in 1990 to study Midwifery. Finally, after working in London, Iraq and Nicaragua, Marie found her true love and tropical paradise in Costa Rica and planted her roots. Together with Costa Rican husband Luis they have 2 wonderful daughters, 11 and 3 years old. Their passions for environmental and social issues has led to the creation of several projects including rainforest conservation, reforestation with native species, the use of alternative energies such as biogas, the design and construction of the first commercial solar wood dryers in Costa Rica, a woodshop for women in rural communities and support for traditional midwives throughout Central America. Marie founded an NGO called Mamasol, through which she has worked for many years campaigning for the rights of mothers and babies for safe and empowering childbirth.

    • What a wonderful experience we had in the cabin for a week! The hospitality and helpfulness of Marie was fantastic. This is a beautiful property that offers a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of San Jose though it is an easy bus/cab ride there. The small town of San Antonio de Belen down the hill is also a nice treat and within walking distance is everything a person could need. Thank you Marie! We greatly enjoyed our stay and will happily recommend your cabin to anyone headed that way.

    • The cabin is cuter than the pictures and Marie is a fabulous hostess!! She provided us with a very generous supply of fresh fruit and breakfast supplies which meant we didn't have to shop for that first morning's breakfast (even tho' there is a very well-stocked mall and grocery store within easy walking distance). The cabin is close to a busy road but the bedroom fan's white noise made that a non-issue. With Marie's great directions and the cabin's central location, we had no trouble getting onto CA1 to explore the surrounding area. We'd definitely stay there again when visiting San Jose.

    • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Marie and Luis´ guest house. The cabin is sweet and cosy, and Marie is very helpful and attentive. A great place to stay when passing through San Jose. Much nicer than the photos on vrbo. Highly recommended!
