Location: Taos, New Mexico, USA (between Taos & Ski Valley on Valdez Rim Road)

Accommodations:  Casita, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)

Please check out our VRBO listing 138474. It's on the same piece of land and has a separate entrance, larger yard, awesome view!

The casita (this listing) is located between Taos and Ski Valley on the Valdez Rim Road, this is 850 square feet of charm! An authentic old adobe casita, it's quiet and private. It has a beautiful view. Only 20 minutes to the ski lift and 20 minutes to town!

Adjacent to an artist's home, the casita features TWO kiva fireplaces, skylights, saltillo tile floors, and an old viga beam ceiling - a typical Taos adobe! And a large portal (porch) to enjoy the cool breezes and the awesome view. It has it's own laundry room and it's own, fully-equipped kitchen. Honestly, you can pay a lot more and not find a place as wonderful!

(See the floor plan by clicking on the "FLOORPLAN" link which follows.)

The living room has a banco (a large window seat) with a wonderful view of the valley and mountains, a signed kiva fireplace built by a local legend (this 73-year-old Hispanic genius - a grandmother - climbed on the roof with a chainsaw to cut the hole for the chimney!), and a satellite TV with over 100 channels. A single futon in the living room is available for sleeping, as is the couch and a large window seat (banco).

A complete laundry room comes with washer and dryer, a fullly equipped kitchen with colorful Mexican tiles, a romantic bedroom with down comforters, a queen-sized bed and a kiva (traditional New Mexican fireplace). The casita has it's own entrance and a separate telephone line so you can be very quiet and private.

This old home is a local landmark with a wonderful view out over the Valdez Valley to the Sangre de Cristo mountains from two covered porches.. wonderful for writing, painting, or simply getting away from it all.

Our check-in time is 3:00, checkout is 11:00 -- we know you'll hate to leave!

Pets: The casita has a private entrance and separate fenced yard -- we welcome one or two good dogs. Sorry, no cats (our good dog will eat them).

TO MAKE A RESERVATION: Please email us to make a reservation (see below,"CLICK TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS PROPERTY"). We are not often home to answer the phone! Thanks.

    • We chose this rental because of its proximity to the wedding we were attending. It was perfect for all our needs. The views were beautiful and it was close enough to town for restaurant dining any other needs. If you like quiet destinations, this is a wonderful place to stay!

    • This casita is exactly as pictured and described and provided us with a comfy, private space to call home while we enjoyed the sights, sounds, and smells in and around Taos. It was hard to leave, but will be sooo easy to come back to!

    • We had a great time staying at your casita. The view from the front porch was fantastic. And we appreciated being outside of town. Close enough to get into Taos or the mountains whenever we wanted, but away from the crowds. We loved how quiet it is! And being dog friendly was a big plus for us.

    • The Casita was wonderful. Clean, comfortable and very private. Close to the Taos without being to close. We are planning to come again and stay longer.

    • Ann, thank you for the use of your beautiful home! It was perfect! Besides being such a charming place and beautifully decorated it was like being home. Except without the chores! It had everything and was one of the most enjoyable, peaceful, beautiful trips I have ever had. Not to mention I felt perfectly safe as I left my husband and 3 kids at home this trip. Thank you so much I will be back as fast as I can!

    • Our stay at the casita in August was another lovely experience renting vacation apartments/houses directly from the owner. The casita was all that was described and more. Totally charming both in location, decor and convenience. Fresh flowers were even there on our arrival. The casita was spic and span on our arrival and well stocked with the necessities. The owner was only a phone call away if we needed advice on anything. We delighted in watching the summer thunderstorms move down the valley below and seeing the splendid NM sunsets. The art, shopping and restaurants in Taos are wonderful, but we often didn't want to even leave the casita because it was so peaceful and lovely there. Another visit is definitely in our future and we've told all our friends what a great place this is...

    • Gas: $3.40 / gallon Winter gear: $350.00 Ski lessons for two: $170.00 Handmade souvenirs: $90.00 Snowmobile rentals: $140.00 Watching my 13 year old son build his first snowman with his 18 yr.old brother... ~ PRICELESS. This casita IS as charming, enchanting, cozy, colorful, whimsical, serene, and delightful as "Ann" and the other guests suggest. You have all of the comforts of home, while enjoying a picturesque and magical setting.

      Homeowner Response:
We loved having the Gilberts and appreciate the opportunity to provide them with Snow! The fact that there were three of them, however, was a major exception to our policies and we can really only accommodate two people at the casita. Thanks!

    • What a magical place to stay. Ann is the perfect host; there when you need her, but not hovering. Her casita is the perfect place to return to after a long day of exploring the area. She is a fountain of information about what to see, what to miss and where to get the best prices on local crafts. We'll be back!
