Artist's Adobe Casita 'Tween Taos/Ski Vly Dog Ok View, Charm
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
NOTE: If we don't have the nights you want, check out our VRBO listing 138474. It's on the same piece of land and has a separate entrance, larger yard, awesome view!
The casita (this listing) is located on a high ridge between Taos and Ski Valley on the Valdez Rim Road with a spectacular view of the Valdez Valley. An authentic old adobe casita, it's serene, quiet and private. Only 15 beautiful minutes up the mountain to the ski lift, five minutes to the charming town of Arroyo Seco with great restaurants and shops, and a lovely 20-minute drive back to town!
Adjacent to an artist's home, the casita features TWO kiva fireplaces, skylights, saltillo tile floors, and an old viga beam ceiling - a typical Taos adobe! And a large portal (porch) to enjoy the cool breezes and the awesome view. It has it's own laundry room and it's own, fully-equipped kitchen. Honestly, you can pay a lot more and not find a place as wonderful!
(See the floor plan by clicking on the 'FLOORPLAN' link which follows.)
The living room has a banco (a large window seat) with a wonderful view of the valley and mountains, a signed kiva fireplace built by a local legend (this 73-year-old Hispanic genius - a grandmother - climbed on the roof with a chainsaw to cut the hole for the chimney!), and a satellite TV with over 100 channels. A single futon in the living room is available for sleeping, as is the couch and a large window seat (banco).
A complete laundry room comes with washer and dryer, a fullly equipped kitchen with colorful Mexican tiles, a romantic bedroom with down comforters, a queen-sized bed and a kiva (traditional New Mexican fireplace). The casita has it's own entrance and a separate telephone line so you can be very quiet and private.
This old home is a local landmark with a wonderful view out over the Valdez Valley to the Sangre de Cristo mountains from two covered porches.. wonderful for writing, painting, or simply getting away from it all.
Our check-in time is 3:00, checkout is 11:00 -- we know you'll hate to leave!
Pets: The casita has a private entrance and separate fenced yard -- we welcome one or two good dogs. Sorry, no cats (our good dog will eat them).
Smoking: There is NO SMOKING in the casita.
TO MAKE A RESERVATION: We have a 3-night minimum. Please email us to make a reservation (hit the 'Contact Owner' button). We are not often home to answer the phone! Thanks.

We went on a getaway to the Casita de Taos. E-mail made it easy, we had no hassle with our dog and the place was warm and friendly. Out of town and up of the ridge top, but not to far from the bustle of Taos. We enjoyed exploring Arroyo de Secco and the Rio Grande bridge. The casita had all the comforts of home and the three night stay gave us time to relax and mellow. The art work is extraordinary, the kiva fireplace enchanting!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at this adorable little casita and had a wonderful time! It was in the perfect location for driving to Taos ski valley to ski for the day or driving into town for dinner & shopping. The place was so cozy and peaceful with amazing views! And Ann was so helpful in providing us with any information that we requested and very fast in responding to emails! We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Casita for 4 nights for spring break. We loved it!! It was the perfect place with a great location to Taos and the ski valley, so we spent time both exploring Taos and skiing! It has everything you need for a vacation and everything is as described. The view is incredible! Also was nice to have TV and wifi for those nights we were exhausted after skiing. Also, you must go to Orlando's!! We loved it so much we went twice. Thanks again Ann for such a great spring break!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We've been enjoying your cozy casita immensely and will be sad to leave tomorrow. The view is amazing and sometimes, as much as we love looking at art in town, we just want to come back to it! We've been walking around the area a lot - beautiful. We love the adobe fireplace (just used the living room one) and the window seat especially.Did you find this review helpful? Thanks again for letting us spend a few relaxing days at your casita-with-a-view. What a beautiful area - we had never been on the Rim Road in all the trips we've made to Taos. The casita is colorful and cozy. I spent some time just staring at the timbered ceiling. There's always something magical about the Taos adobes, and yours is no exception, especially for the so-reasonable price.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: Do you like my self-portrait? I'm a former D.C. lobbyist, a sometime artist who drove up the canyon road past the hairpin turn one weathery afternoon, over the top to the view, and into the rest of my life.
Why the Owner Chose Taos:
The old adobes of Taos are very special. Handmade, each one unique, with soft welcoming curves. History, romance, old legends, an historic neighborhood, and astoundiing views.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The casita was originally a workshop with a primitive bedroom and bath. It was so much fun creating a unique, special, evocative place to relax and be inspired. Old adobe is magical. The magic rubs off -- you'll see!
