This cabin is a unique place. The setting is so that it backs up to two National Forest properties: The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and The Daniel Boone National Forest. The 1200 square foot cabin is the last property before entering Big South Fork Park . The cabin is available for rental SEASONALLY from April to November.

The view from the large, covered back porch is mountains and hills as far as the eye can see. The cabin is nicely equipped for 7 persons to stay in beds very comfortably. There is floor space for 4 more with 2 additional airbeds. The cabin has a covered front porch with a swing and a huge back deck overlooking the gorgeous view with lots of patio furniture and a grill for your enjoyment. Half of the back deck is covered.

There are 2 bedrooms. The one downstairs has a queen bed and the other is a huge lofted room with a memory foam king, a double bed and a twin bed in it, as well as lots of additional floor space in the lofted area for sleeping space (2 air mattresses are available for use). Full bathroom is upstairs off the lofted room. Downstairs in the large vaulted ceiling great room there is a sofa and love seat as well as other comfy seating.

There is a table for eating on the back deck. There are 2 kitchen tables inside - one in the dining area between kitchen and great room and one in the great room. CD player, TV and DVD player, with cable TV hookup, washer and dryer make this cabin very comfortable and accommodating.

Nearby in front of the cabin is a 4 plank oak with gates near the cabin and also directly off the road. There is accessibility off the road and also via a gravel driveway that comes right up to the side of the cabin. This is a wonderful place to come and be right in the face of thousands of acres of some of nature's finest playground.

The South Fork Branch of the Cumberland River is about 1.25 mile hike away boasting white water seasonally. Cabin is about 1/2 mile before Big South Fork Park Entrance on Hwy 742 (aka, Mine 18 Road) Historic Blue Heron Mining Camp Park boundary is 1 mile away and Blue Heron Campground is close by. This cabin is well loved and we enjoy sharing it with people.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin is large and comfortably furnished, with a sitting porch on the front and the back, to catch the sun both rising and setting. There are no close neighbors, so you can see and hear nature at it's finest. The park is just down the road with excellent hiking trails and other activities. The owners were very responsive and friendly, and solved issues we had even though they were out of state. They have provided books, games, music and other amentiies to make the cabin feel homey, and every thing we needed for a comfortable stay was there. This cabin is in the woods at the top of a mountain. It's a beautiful area. If I had small children, I would be worried about them playing outside on the mountain side, because it's rocky and steep in some places (and we live on 'flat land'). Our dogs had a blast though! We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a get-away.

Great relaxing no fuss cabin. Needs small table in downstairs 1/2 bathroom for toiletries and needed paper towels and dishwashing liquid. Otherwise - perfect!

This is the 2nd time we've rented this cabin and you really just can't beat the charm and the price. It is literally the last house on the left before you enter BSF and there is enough hiking for a whole week! The BSF train ride is also a hit and it is maybe 10 minutes away. It is nearly impossible to find the first time you go, but once you know where it is, it's golden - pretty secluded! We LOVE the 2 dining size tables as we do puzzles/games on one that we can leave out and eat on the other! Also LOVE being able to do laundry b/c that area seems to get good steady rain in Spring/Fall and hiking can be messy! Our kids were 2 and 3 when we first rented, so no problem with stairs...if you have toddlers, you would want a safety gate i think... the roof is metal too so we LOVE to hear the rain! and the deck is partially covered so you can still sit out with morning coffee even in the rain. Love this place!

                        1. There were recent repairs in the cabin that had not been completed. 2. The cabin need better air flow. The windows didn’t open and it got hot inside. The only way to cool it off was to leave the doors open. 3. The worst item we had a problem with was there was no room to turn around at the end of the drive way. We got our pick-up truck stuck turning it around and had to go to the Blue Herron Campground and get our friends 4x4 to pull our truck out. 4. The drive way needs additional gravel and/or paved large in ruts that caused the underside of the car to drag. 5. Other than the above items we enjoyed the cabin.

Owner response: We appreciate all our reviews to help potential vacationers to know what to expect, what is fun to do, etc. However in this case I think it best if I explain a little. There was a water line problem in the ceiling of the kitchen that occurred March 30,2012(the day before our first renter of the season) and was repaired on the same day. The caretenders for the cabin elected not to patch the drywall that covered the waterline until several back to back renters had used the cabin and were gone. They were concerned about the odor, dust etc and assumed that our guests would rather have a blemish in the ceiling than the other inconveniences. Additionally, there has been quite a bit of rain and bad weather in the area which has washed away gravel in the driveway. New gravel will be in place ASAP .There is an alternative place to park with plenty of room to turn around, but for convenience many guests like to park right beside the cabin which is where turn around is difficult in a larger vehicle. There are 2 air conditioning units in the cabin for use when cool air or ventilation is needed. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience.

Our family of four (two adults two kids) rented this cabin for two nights and we had a ball! My boys are young enough that they actually opted to sleep together in a queen (my husband and I were in the king, both in the upstairs loft), which left two beds unoccupied (one of them in a separate room downstairs). Realizing that we had MORE space than we needed, it occurred to me that this cabin would be perfect for a family plus an extra couple (grandparents?). We never quite figured out how to walk from the cabin to a hiking trail, but Big South Fork really is *right* there. It was a great place to stop mid-point between Detroit metro and Atlanta and spending two nights, we got a nice full day of hiking. The back deck was great for just relaxing with drinks in the evening! We were able to make use of the washer dryer, which was very helpful. I'm looking for more people to join us so we can go again (and feel like we're making better use of the AMPLE space!). What a bargain...

If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the place. Our family of four had a great time. The surrounding area is beautiful. We even had deer come up into the side yard. Be sure to go hiking in the national parks nearby.

"Thank you, Lisa, for allowing others to experience your wonderful cabin! Our lives tend to be a little on the hectic side, therefore my husband and I were looking to just get away and do nothing for a week. We were fortunate to find that in your out-of-the-way, spacious, comfortable, charming and more than affordable cabin in the woods. The house is so big that we almost felt guilty for not sharing it with other family members or friends -- but, we WERE looking for solitude so we didn't feel too guilty. :-) We slept in the large bed upstairs and were amazed at how comfortable it was - better than any old hotel bed we've slept in. In the morning I would sit on the front porch swing and read and watch the rather large hawk that never failed to appear. After lunch on the deck we'd drive around, exploring the small towns, buying fresh vegetables, taking in a movie or visiting a museum or library. Every evening we discovered a new restaurant to eat supper and then we'd head back to the cabin to watch one of the many DVDs you have available. What a great, laid-back time we had! And, again, so easy on the old wallet. Oh, and for those of you reading this who might be thinking of renting this cabin, I just wanted to let you know that it comes equipped with EVERYTHING you might need - and it's all very nice, too! Thank you again, Lisa!"
