This is the 2nd time we've rented this cabin and you really just can't beat the charm and the price. It is literally the last house on the left before you enter BSF and there is enough hiking for a whole week! The BSF train ride is also a hit and it is maybe 10 minutes away. It is nearly impossible to find the first time you go, but once you know where it is, it's golden - pretty secluded! We LOVE the 2 dining size tables as we do puzzles/games on one that we can leave out and eat on the other! Also LOVE being able to do laundry b/c that area seems to get good steady rain in Spring/Fall and hiking can be messy! Our kids were 2 and 3 when we first rented, so no problem with stairs...if you have toddlers, you would want a safety gate i think... the roof is metal too so we LOVE to hear the rain! and the deck is partially covered so you can still sit out with morning coffee even in the rain. Love this place!

1. There were recent repairs in the cabin that had not been completed. 2. The cabin need better air flow. The windows didn’t open and it got hot inside. The only way to cool it off was to leave the doors open. 3. The worst item we had a problem with was there was no room to turn around at the end of the drive way. We got our pick-up truck stuck turning it around and had to go to the Blue Herron Campground and get our friends 4x4 to pull our truck out. 4. The drive way needs additional gravel and/or paved large in ruts that caused the underside of the car to drag. 5. Other than the above items we enjoyed the cabin.
Owner response:We appreciate all our reviews to help potential vacationers to know what to expect, what is fun to do, etc. However in this case I think it best if I explain a little. There was a water line problem in the ceiling of the kitchen that occurred March 30,2012(the day before our first renter of the season) and was repaired on the same day. The caretenders for the cabin elected not to patch the drywall that covered the waterline until several back to back renters had used the cabin and were gone. They were concerned about the odor, dust etc and assumed that our guests would rather have a blemish in the ceiling than the other inconveniences. Additionally, there has been quite a bit of rain and bad weather in the area which has washed away gravel in the driveway. New gravel will be in place ASAP .There is an alternative place to park with plenty of room to turn around, but for convenience many guests like to park right beside the cabin which is where turn around is difficult in a larger vehicle. There are 2 air conditioning units in the cabin for use when cool air or ventilation is needed. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience.

Our family of four (two adults two kids) rented this cabin for two nights and we had a ball! My boys are young enough that they actually opted to sleep together in a queen (my husband and I were in the king, both in the upstairs loft), which left two beds unoccupied (one of them in a separate room downstairs). Realizing that we had MORE space than we needed, it occurred to me that this cabin would be perfect for a family plus an extra couple (grandparents?). We never quite figured out how to walk from the cabin to a hiking trail, but Big South Fork really is *right* there. It was a great place to stop mid-point between Detroit metro and Atlanta and spending two nights, we got a nice full day of hiking. The back deck was great for just relaxing with drinks in the evening! We were able to make use of the washer dryer, which was very helpful. I'm looking for more people to join us so we can go again (and feel like we're making better use of the AMPLE space!). What a bargain...

If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the place. Our family of four had a great time. The surrounding area is beautiful. We even had deer come up into the side yard. Be sure to go hiking in the national parks nearby.

Had a great time! The cabin was clean and peaceful. Owners were super friendly and helpful as well. We enjoyed the many books and games at the cabin. We brought the dogs and it worked out great. The park allows pets on the trails (as long as they're leashed) Plus the cabin is back off the road so I wasn't worried about one running out and getting hit. Went hiking in the park and had a great time. There are some great overlook hikes right down the road from the cabin. I would definetly recommend this cabin to a friend!

Spent a week in the cabin with 4 children under 12. We explored the backyard and found caves that our children enjoyed climbing up into. It was a convenient location when driving to the Big South Fork Recreation Area. We found some great spots to pull off and let the kids swim and play in the sand. A must see is Yahoo Falls. A couple mile or so hike through creeks and cliffs to a secluded 113ft waterfall that our kids got to stand and swim in, (Also a staircase for those less adventuress) The only down fall was no central air when staying in August with consecutive 90+ days. The window units did help but felt bad running them almost constantly.

Being from flat as a rock Florida, just being in Kentucky was beautiful enough. Staying in this cabin made the trip even more enjoyable. Tucked in the woods, it was like being with nature. It was quiet and the cabin has everything you need to feel at home. Definitely a very enjoyable week's stay.

"Thank you, Lisa, for allowing others to experience your wonderful cabin! Our lives tend to be a little on the hectic side, therefore my husband and I were looking to just get away and do nothing for a week. We were fortunate to find that in your out-of-the-way, spacious, comfortable, charming and more than affordable cabin in the woods. The house is so big that we almost felt guilty for not sharing it with other family members or friends -- but, we WERE looking for solitude so we didn't feel too guilty. :-) We slept in the large bed upstairs and were amazed at how comfortable it was - better than any old hotel bed we've slept in. In the morning I would sit on the front porch swing and read and watch the rather large hawk that never failed to appear. After lunch on the deck we'd drive around, exploring the small towns, buying fresh vegetables, taking in a movie or visiting a museum or library. Every evening we discovered a new restaurant to eat supper and then we'd head back to the cabin to watch one of the many DVDs you have available. What a great, laid-back time we had! And, again, so easy on the old wallet. Oh, and for those of you reading this who might be thinking of renting this cabin, I just wanted to let you know that it comes equipped with EVERYTHING you might need - and it's all very nice, too! Thank you again, Lisa!"

We loved our time here! My husband and I wanted to meet some dear friends of ours who had moved south, so I hunted down this little cabin as a bit of a half way point. It was fabulous. The location is astounding, everything is quaint and clean. We enjoyed our stay so much we're going to book again for this fall! This little cabin was worth every penny! Thanks for the great stay!

My family and I spent two nights in this Great cabin in the woods it was better then the Smokies. The cabin was everything we were looking for. Perfect for a nature loving family. We all loved it. From my Five year-old who didn't want to leave to my Dad who loved the history of the area. It reminded my husband of his first trip to the Smokies, with his Grandfather, before all of the Condos got built.

Let me start by saying, the pictures and description do not do this cabin justice. It is beyond beautiful. The surroundings are breathtaking. There are trees and plants covering every inch of the property, and the beauty of the mountains is beyond description. The cabin in rather large and it is definitely rustic. The rooms are spacious enough for a family gathering. The walls are covered with wooden planks that are gorgeous. It is decorated with area treasures. My favorite being small pieces of coal scattered throughout. The local area is charming. We were lucky enough to visit during Homecoming week. The small town was booming with activity. Music, fair, fireworks…….We had a great time! Thanks for sharing your cabin with my family. We will return in the future.

If you're looking for an authentic, rustic cabin in a secluded setting, give this one a close look. There is nothing fancy here but it's clean, comfortable, and very private. The queen bed in the loft is great! Owners are conscientious and communicative. We used the cabin for a few days in June as a base to explore the surrounding area and neighboring states, and to spend some quiet time together. The whole experience was enjoyable and memorable. We highly recommend it! Larry & Kathy

If you're looking for a quiet get away-this cabin is the place to be. The scenery is spectacular. Our family took our mountian bikes and biked to several scenic areas. The cabin has a great collection of resources/maps of the area "hot spots" to see. Several trails to overlooks and beautiful water falls in the area. The cabin itself is cozy with all the accomadations you need. Cell phone svc. was scarce-which made for a relaxing week. We would recommend this cabin to anyone and everyone.

My two adult sons and I went to this cabin in March of 2008 for a 4 day trip. The cabin was very comfortable and roomy with plenty of books to read and games to play. We also took a day trip through this scenic area to explore and do some trail hiking and found some beautiful spots. A peaceful trip with the real plus of spending time together without the normal daily interruptions of TV and phone.

This lovely vacation home is everything promised and more! It's clean and tidy and is a perfect getaway given its location adjacent to the Daniel Boone National Forest. There are lots of interesting things to see and do in the area, and our hosts were very gracious in providing us with ample information concerning both day trips and fun adventures in the immediate vicinity. Highly Recommended!
