| At Volcano Tree House, you will awaken refreshed to the peaceful sound of the last drops of an early morning rain, and the music of native songbirds. We are nestled in a native Hawaiian rain forest of giant ferns and Ohia trees just outside the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, in the storybook arts community of Volcano Village.
Built on a lovingly hand cleared lot to preserve as much of Hawaii’s rain forest as possible, this beautiful custom home offers 4 living units. Each unit has it's own private entrance and unique amenities. The house can be rented as a whole for family reunions or retreats, or by each individual unit depending on your needs.
The aroma of cedar awakens your senses when you walk through the French doors into the Cedar Cottage. An exposed beam ceiling and rough cedar planks gives this living area just the right combination of rustic charm. A queen size futon can be used as an additional bed for the kids or to simply relax. Artwork by local artists honor the Hapu’u or giant tree ferns which can be seen all over the property. A maple hardwood staircase leads up to the main bedroom and private bath which has a 5 foot Jacuzzi tub and shower wand. The built in queen bed is draped with luxurious linens and down pillows. Adorning the walls is artwork by artist-historian Herb Kane who was elected a Living Treasure of Hawaii in 1984. Step out onto your private lanai to watch the tree tops sway or walk across the 50 foot sky walk to the “man room” to relax with other guests.
On the bottom level of the house, surrounded by giant Hapu'u ferns, relax in your comfortable room or warm solarium in Hale Hapu'u. You won't want to leave! Two twin beds have warm and cozy down comforters as well as heated mattress pads to help ward off chills after a night of star gazing. Our only wheelchair accessible and pet friendly unit.
In the Pacific Island Studio on the second floor of the tree house you are surrounded by large windows opening into the forest which allows you to relax among the Hapu’u ferns and possibly catch a glimpse of a rain forest song bird. View the pacific island artwork including handmade storyboards from the island of Palau and Korea which adorn the walls. Cook a quiet dinner in the full kitchen or step out onto the large deck to BBQ. After a long hike through the rain forest or Volcanoes National Park relax in the 6’ bathtub with lounging pillow and reading light. The queen size bed with warm comfy linens ensures a most peaceful night’s sleep.
Imagine life amongst the rain forest song birds where apanepane, amau and other native species sing the day away. The Tree Top Suite on the third and final level of the house has a private outdoor lanai where you can sit overlooking the Hapuu (giant tree ferns) and become one with nature. An outdoor propane heater will keep you warm during those chilly Volcano nights while you gaze up at the stars through the canopy of the Ohia trees. Inside the suite a kitchenette, bench shower, comfy king bed and seating area complete your stay in paradise. Artwork by local artists Mariane Berger and Dick Mortemer capture indigenous birds in their natural environment. |
