We stayed 1/21 to 1/28/12, could have used a few more days! This house is everything advertised, except the boat, which is broken, we did not mind, there is so much else to do! An alternate boat was offered but we opted for shopping instead! The house is very clean, it has a fully stocked kitchen, pans, spices, plates, it was perfect for the chef I brought in for a birthday dinner on the deck for 7 and I highly recommend this treat! (Cassandra from Passionfruit was awesome). We walked to Redhook often and cabbed back when it was dark, $5 per head, $10 to town, $20 to airport and $12 round trip ferry to st. John. $6 per head to Trunk Bay and Caneel, which are also recommended beach visits! The house came with the Rav to get around with, it is perfect , an old car, you do not have to worry about getting sand in , it is old but reliable and great to get you to different beaches. Secret Harbor is my favorite, calm blue waters, 2 minutes from the house, which had the best snorkeling. We also had stand up paddle lesson with Colin from Bluewater, he was a great teacher and equipment was like new. Coki beach and Magen bay Very busy on cruise ship days, but real nice early in the day. The house was very comfortable and Mike and Danielle will assist with any you may want to know or do. 7 people, adults, more than enough room , very spacious. I would not hesitate going back and highly recommend it. Bring less, they have beach towels, sunblocks, coolers, At dusk little biting bugs come out , bring bug spray or wipes with you wherever you go. These little no see ums only bothered half of us, the more rum you drink the less they bother you! All restaurants we visited were delicious. Also take a visit to Paridise Point by Gondola, get the $10 tix for staying local, and go on the Ferris wheel and have a Bushwacker! Thanks Mike and Danielle! I had a wonderful birthday!

This was our second stay at Harbor House. We stayed in the main level, which has two master suites, separated by a well-appointed and tastefully decorated living area. There is a third bedroom and a third bath as well. The setup is perfect for two couples. The gourmet kitchen is well-equipped as is the entire house (lots of beach towels, bath towels, etc.) Mike, the owner, couldn't be nicer and Danielle, the manager went out her way to make ours an enjoyable stay. Location is perfect - the walk to Red Hook is about 5 minutes. My husband and I also enjoyed hikes each morning to the Ritz and the Elysian. Our only minor issue with the house is that there is no TV in the living area (there are flat screen TVs in each bedroom). We all had to pile into one of the bedrooms to watch football. The highlight of our trip was a boating excursion to the BVIs with Mike as our captain (thanks Mike!).

Rented a week over the holiday at the premium rate and would have to give this house a three star max. It was a great location, very convenient to Red Hook, but fell short in other areas. First, the boat trip on the 35' "True Companion" (described on web sites as a yacht) that was a part of the rental did not happen. The boat was broken and instead of being offered a similiar replacement, was offered a 25' open console fishing boat. Second, a couple major things at the house were also broken. One was the large double sliding doors in the living room that overlook the deck. Because they were broken, you had to go thru the bedrooms to get outside. Also, the pool pump/filter was broken so basically the water did not get cleaned. There were minor things like the bbq had no propane, broken door knobs and toilet seats and construction debris in the back yard that were just additional annoyances that should have been corrected considering the price we paid. If you just want a house close to Red Hook, rent this one. But there are a lot a better houses for the money.
Owner response:Please note we have had 25 previous reviews and never once have had a negative review, nor an average rating. The client made a reservation under contract for Harbor House with a total of 4 guests; had 2 extra guests stay at the Harbor House which we did not make an issue of. Our rates are based on number of guests staying at the Harbor House. To address the comments: 1. The reference to major things broken is a mis-statement with the exception of the sliding glass door. We were waiting for parts to arrive from stateside which were not here in time for repair prior to his arrival. The door is now fixed. There are additional access doors to the deck from both master suites. 2. The Pool pump works fine and was manually turned on every day (including New Years Day) by our maintenance man. 3. Like wise our maintenance man also replaced the broken door handle on New Years Day once we were notified of the problem. 4. The BBQ propane tank was replaced with a new tank the same day we were notified it was empty. 5. Regarding the boat; this is an “OPTIONAL” excursion that we offer as a special to Harbor House guests. The boat was not available and on dry land having mechanical repair work completed. We offered a substitute boat to the client and were refused. *Note: this has nothing to do with the condition of the house.

My husband and I and another couple rented Harbor House for eight days in January '11; leaving about a foot of snow in chilly New England and arriving to gorgeous sunny weather with temps in the lower 80s. We are in our 40s and 50s. The setup of the house was perfect with master bedroom suites anchoring each end of the house, with the living area and gourmet kitchen in the middle. The setup was very private for both couples. A third bedroom and half bath are located near one of the master suites. The house is decorated very tastefully and everything is brand new and of good quality. We enjoyed breakfast and happy hour many times on the expansive upper deck, with the view of American Yacht Harbor, and ventured to the lower deck for the pool a number of times. The house, located on the East End of St. Thomas, is a five minute walk to Red Hook (a yachting village and town) where numerous restaurants and bars can be found. You can easily walk to Latitude 18 (a waterfront dive with excellent food and incredible nightly entertainment), and to Vessup Beach, the Ritz, and the Elysian. We enjoy Sapphire Beach, so we took the 5-minute drive there almost every day, using the car provided by Mike and Sandy. Having the car available to us for the entire trip, whenever we needed it, was such a plus. We even took it St. John on the car barge one day. We have stayed in many places on St. Thomas in the 16 years we've been traveling there, and this is the only time I've been eager to write a review. It was our friends' first visit to STT, and we are already talking about booking Harbor House again for next year. Many thanks to Mike and Sandy for their hospitality!

We spent a week at Harbor House in January of 2011. In our home state of Pennsylvania, people were experiencing 19 degree weather, with 12 inches of snow. Our party of seven adults and one baby, instead, were enjoying 86 degrees, with wonderful blue skies and a pleasant breeze. Harbor House was beautiful. The photos do not do it justice. The House is open, sunny, nicely decorated, and well-appointed. We enjoyed grilling on the deck and spending several hours there each evening relaxing, talking and listening to music. We also enjoyed several of the nearby beaches, as well as walking into Red Hook to buy lattes and some delicious meals at Molly Malone's, Fat Boys, and the East End Cafe. Using the car we were able to go barhopping in Red Hook too. Wednesday nights at Duffy's is ladies' night and Latitude 18 is a colorful island bar that offers live entertainment. We took the ferry to St. John, and spent the afternoon there. We took the Safari Bus (@$2.00 per person) to Charlotte Amalie where we went to the top of Paradise Point to view the Harbor. You have to try a drink called the Bushwacker which is served there. We also took advantage of the wonderful, duty-free jewelry that can be puchased at terrific prices. Mike was a wonderful host. He told us about the island and even gave us a tour of Red Hook. He was always available for questions and advice. He was so friendly and just nice to be around. We would strongly recommending vacationing at the Harbor House. Its beautiful surroundings and proximity to so many sights and activities make it a great place to stay, especially during the winter months, if you're from Pennsylvania!

We just returned from our New Years Eve trip at Harbor House. We had a group of 7 adults, and we just can't say enough nice things about this place! From the minute we walked in, we were thrilled. The photos do not do this place justice! Absolutely beautiful. Gorgeous view. We stayed for 8 days. The location in Red Hook is perfect. Walking distance to lots of fun local bars. Also the car was a nice bonus for grocery trips. If you want a good leg workout, the hills are great for that! We met Chris (the owner's son and also the captain of the boat)... he came over for drinks one night so we could discuss our boat outing. Unfortunately, the huge snow storm that hit America (on the east coast) carried the strong winds down to the islands, so the water was a little too rough for a drive to the islands on his boat. Not to worry though! We took a ferry and went island hopping! We will take Chris up on his offer on our next trip down to this amazing home. We will definately recommend this place, and we look forward to our next trip. Thanks a million to Mike Lampe and his son Chris! Amy C Chicago, IL

I just want to tell anyone that is even thinking about visiting St. Thomas to plan on staying at the Harbor House. It is a very enjoyable, relaxing place to stay. Everything you need is there. My family stayed here while we were in St. Thomas and loved the feeling of staying in a house while on vacation. We liked staying on the other side of the island opposite of the crusie ships. Looking out into the harbor at night and even in the mornings is something to always remember. Our boat trip was spectacular. Chris and his assistant,Ferron, made our day boat trip a favorite part of our vacation. Our family had a great time snorkeling in the caves, eating on a remote island, and just asking Chris questions about everything on the island that we could think of. Chris and Ferron were willing to let us do anything we wanted to on our trip. They told us what our options were, gave suggestions, and then we choose what we wanted to do. That is what was so unique about our trip is, we choose what we thought would interest us the most and then got to do what we wanted to do. After a wonderful day on the water we rode back in the sunset on a beautiful warm evening. Something you only think you can dream of, but can really happen in St. Thomas, on the harbor house boat. Thanks to mike for all of his hard work in making such a nice place to stay.

We spent a most enjoyable week in this marvelous home: -- The house is immaculate and contains all the amenities for a terrific vacation. -- A master suite on each end of the house was perfect for our party of two couples, and a third bedroom was available which we didn't need. -- Excellent location on the East End of the Island.....great view overlooking the American Harbor in Red Hook. -- Many excellent snorkling & swimming beaches within a 5 - 10 minute drive. Water clarity was unbelievable. -- Numerous restaurants (both casual as well as fine dining) within a short drive. -- A short walk to the harbor, restaurants, shops and a food store which offers quality fresh fish and meats, vegetables, etc. -- Captains Mike & Chris were delightful, offering helpful advice, local knowledge and lots of entertaining stories. -- A highlight was a trip to the British Virgins during which Captain Chris piloted us to several exceptional snorkling spots, including the caves on Norman Island. -- Inclusion of a car in the rental packge is a definite plus. We would highly recommend this property to anyone considering a trip to St. Thomas.

We rented the house this past February, 2010. It was wonderful. The house is very warm and comfortable with all amenities we needed. We enjoyed the pool and the view, the car was a great asset and our day on the boat allowed us to scuba and snorkel around St. John. Christmas Cove was an enjoyable stop where we relaxed and had some cocktails. The location of the house is great, close to shopping and restaurants in Red Hook. Our favorite find was Latitude 18, more of a local establishment with great food, drinks, live music and so close to the house. Mike, Sandy and Chris were really great to work with. They gave us some great advice on places to visit while in St. Thomas.

Our family enjoyed the Harbor House so much in the summer of '08 that we returned in the summer of '09. The house comfortably accommodated 7 adults and 2 children. We utilized the gourmet kitchen for all of our breakfasts. Everyone could be in the kitchen at the same time and not feel crowded. The house was equipped with every thing we needed for picnic lunches (coolers, ice packs, bottle openers). We chose to cook a few evening meals on the grill and enjoy the deck and pool area - a very relaxing option. Having a perfectly maintained private pool and deck area cannot be overemphasized when you have kids and small children. Use of the car was extremely helpful - it allowed us to go our own ways when necessary. We spend the majority of our time at the east end beaches during the mornings and return to the house for a pool swim and rest before dinner - very home-like for our family. The location of this house was/is extremely convenient for our slow paced vacations. We love the restaurants in Red Hook. The house is so close, you could choose to walk into Red Hook or eat at. We had a great time on the boat trip. We swam at remote beaches, went to Jost Van Dyke, and viewed scenery we'd have never experienced except on this excursion with a knowledgeable guide. Capt. Lampe is always a great host and easy to talk with. We had the pleasure of spending time with Capt. Mike's son Chris. The owner's hospitality is one of the reasons we would continue to patronize Harbor House. It's the best vacation value for our money.

We had the pleasure of renting this home for our honeymoon. We were extremly lucky that Captain Mike, the owner and his son Chris were staying on site with us and became good friends. They showed us the East End and told us were all the hot spots were to go. Mike makes the best "Pain Killer" drink I've ever had. There are not enough words to tell you the hospitality we received. Another great aspect was that they told us about the local, off the tourist maps were to go snokeling and beaches to relax on away from all the "other" tourists and what days that the huge boats were coming into Charlotte Amelie (sp), you want to avoid that when they are in port. About the property.... well, it was pristine. Clean, everything you'd need to feel at home, great location! We walked to Red Hook every day for supplies or great dinners out. All the furnishings were perfectly maintained and new. Wonderful beds, towels, stocked kitchen and spectacular view of the bay. Mike and Chris gave us great information on where to go and we felt like locals very quickly. They were a wealth of knowledge. They became our family. When we go back, we'll definitly stay at this home again, no question. The boat charter that Mike gave us was wonderful. We were lucky that he had extra room and brought some of his friends along. They provided great entertainment and also gave us more history of the other islands. Mike took up out snorkeling and helped us identify the marine life. The boat is beautiful. One of our most memorable trips and we've been to many places to compare. Will be going back soon and will only do so if Captain Mike and son Chris are in town. Oh, the rest of the island was fantastic as well. Beautif home, great location, and the best hospitality. Choose this over any hotel. Also, private pool was wonderful!

We just returned from a week at Harbor House and we couldn't have enjoyed it more! Use of the car was a huge bonus and we had mastered the roads by the second day. The house is in a great location, very close to the ferry dock, a good grocery store and the fun Red Hook neighborhood. The layout is awesome, with plenty of shared space but also privacy because the bedrooms are on opposite ends. The appliances all worked beautifully (not always the case with rentals) and they think of all the little things like providing plenty of towels, coolers, etc. You really do feel like it is your home for the week. The day trip to Jost Van Dyke was exceptional and Chris (Mike's son) was a delightful and knowledgeable host. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and will always have fond memories of Harbor House.

The comments everyone posted about Harbor House are true. What a delightful stay we had. My new husband and I shared Harbor House with the couple from Wisconsin. We shared the cooking & dining on the deck overlooking the harbor, got into some great board games, took tours of the other islands and enjoyed each other’s company. Having a 35' yacht skippered by Capt. Mike was just one of the highlights of the trip. He supplied everything including the masks and equipment for snorkeling. What is nice is that we were able to set our own schedules. We could tour, shop like tourists or just enjoy Harbor House’s pool or walk the local beach. Capt Mike and his wife Sandy have spent many years as charter boat captains; their knowledge of the area and islands was very helpful in finding the best places to go. We plan on returning to the Harbor House soon.

I have stayed 3 yrs in a row apr' 07,may' 08 and april .09 at the "Harbor House in the lower apt located on the pool deck of the property . This luxury 1 bd apt has a well appointed kitchen with refrigerator & stove top, fully A/C; separate bedroom with comfortable queen bed with bathroom & shower. The apt. is well furnished, sat tv, internet, and is very private & close in to beaches & Red Hook. I enjoyed the location & view overlooking American Yacht Harbor. I liked walking on the Park Road which fronts the property & Yacht Harbor. As I am an amateur musician , I loved to play & sing at the open mike night at Latitude 18 Beach Bar which is located just down the road. The apartment is quiet, private, and well located. I had a car for some of the stay but at the Harbor House Apt. I didn't really need it. Also, I had occasion to join other guests (staying upstairs) on Capt Mikes boat "True Companion " to The British Virgin Islands .We snorkled and returned to the White Sand Beach of Jost Van Dyke , this was a truly memorable day. I would highly recommend staying at the Harbor House.

We had such a great time in April of 2008, we decided to come down again in April of 2009. This year we brought two couple with us and it was such an enjoyable time. The house is awesome! We made delicious meals in the fully functional kitchen and grilled fresh fish and steaks on the BBQ many of the nights. The huge deck made it very easy for all of us to sit comfortably for meals and enjoy the nice cool breeze and see the lights of Red Hook Harbor as we conversed of the days events and made plans for the next day. This year we took advantage of the 35 foot Boat available for charter by the homeowners. The water and the beaches are breathtaking, not to mention the fun we had snorkelling. We had so much fun, we chartered the boat for a second day! The house is located close to shops, parks, beaches, restaurants and grocery stores. The big swimming pool was nice for the days we just felt like relaxing at home and taking a cool dip in after a long day of sightseeing. We have decided to make this an annual vacation! Trust me, you, your friends and family will not be disappointed if you choose St.Thomas and the Harbor House as your vacation destination! Kurt & Cheryl, Waterford, WI - April 2009
Owner response:Kurt, Cheryl, Pat, and Linda stayed at the Harbor House in mid April 2009. The weather was fantastic during their stay. The weather in the caribbean in April is usually excellant with the Trade Winds cooling everything. I took them snokelling to St. John to Leinster Bay on the 35ft. Maxum Powerboat. They saw a sea turtle, lots of reef fish, & several star fish. They decided to charter the boat a second day to go to Jost Van Dyke and the Soggy Dollar Bar located at White Sand Bay in the British Virgins. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Capt Mike

We just returned home from our week at Harbor House. We had a great vacation with our kids (ages 8 and 13) and enjoyed our first visit to St. Thomas. Harbor House provides a beautiful and spacious floorplan, luxurious furnishings, and was ideal for our family. We especially appreciated the upper deck where we indulged in leisurely breakfasts taking in the view of the yacht harbor, and lower deck with private pool. We were grateful for the use of the gas grill and well-stocked kitchen also. The location is very convenient, close to grocery store and restaurants, and made the short ferry ride to enjoy St. John beaches super easy. Our favorite part of the trip was a private boat tour with Capt. Mike (a great tour guide) who shared with us some of what the British Virgins has to offer. We will definitely return to St. Thomas some day, and would enjoy another stay at Harbor House.
Owner response:The Michaletz family loves the beach, boats, fishing, and swimming. How could they not love staying at the Harbor House? They where a great family to meet, I glad they enjoyed their first visit to STT. Capt. Mike

This was my 6th visit to St. Thomas and my stay at Harbour House made it perfect. The home far exceeded my expectations: the kitchen was well stocked and made cooking dinners a real joy; the double master suites are equally comfortable. I liked the "Blue Suite" because I could lie in bed at night and enjoy the lights across the harbor. When I first walked into the house I fell in love with the wall of glass in the great room that offers expansive views of the the harbor. Because this was a two-week "working" vacation, I depended upon good internet service - and I wasn't disappointed. The deck was the perfect place to sit in the morning and read my email and I enjoyed lounging poolside almost every day. Secret Harbor is a nifty beach that is an easy walk from the house, and the park road just outside the back gate is a mile loop - perfect for walking and running. The Harbour House is very well maintained, with lovely landscaping, soothing color scheme, and furnishings that have been chosen with care and talent. I appreciated the subdued colors and the departure from the usual "Margaritaville" interior design sensibility. This is an excellent choice for families with well-behaved children, couples travelling together, and large groups of friends. I recommend it without reservation. By the way, if you have the opportunity to charter a boat - be sure to engage Chris Lampe or Captain Mike to captain your boat. Both have a commanding knowledge of the entire BVI and USVI area and can also take you on some amazing dives. The location of Harbor House makes it convenient for jaunts to St. John, visits to area resturants (I recommmend the Buddha Bar for sushi lovers - it's just a short drive from the Harbor House, as well as Latitude 18 which is just down the road), and equally accessible to Meagan's Bay and Charlotte Amalie (though why anyone would want to go there is beyond me). Visit Harbour House - it's the perfect antidote to stress.

We stayed at Harbor House over Christmas week with our kids, ages 22, 21 & 17 and had a great time. It's location in Red Hook is great for eating out and grocery shopping, ferry to St John. The owner was more than accommodating and even gave us the use of his car for the week. Included in the rental was a day trip to Jost Van Dyck with the owners son, Chris, as the captain. The weather was a little rough but he was very capable, calm & friendly. It was the highlight of the week. Chris lives in an apt downstairs and was helpful upon our arrival. Since we got there on Christmas day he got us a few groceries to start our week. We went to different beaches every day (watch the local paper & avoid Magen's Bay on heavy cruise ship days!). Secret Harbor Beach has a nice beachfront restaurant but the beach is disappointing. Had dinner at the East End Cafe which was fine. Don't bother going to Poet's Restaurant in Red Hook, we had terrible service there. Took the ferry to St John which was a fun thing to do on our only rainy day. The house was new and clean and very comfortable. The layout of the house was perfect for our family - kids on one side and parents on the other with living space in center. The kitchen was well equipped. We didn't use the pool. Only disappointment was that we didn't know the house next door was under construction. It's almost done so it shouldn't be a problem for future renters. I would definitely recommend this house to a friend and hope to stay there again ourselves in the future.
Owner response:It was a pleasure having this family for Christmas Week. They made arrangements to use one of our Autos for the week. The house next door is completing it's outside construction & they promised me (the neighbors) that outside noise would stop by January 15th...they already are several months overdue on construction so I feel this is realistic. They also spent a day going to the BVI's; I understand the water was a little rough but they still enjoyed the boat trip. It's a pleasure when a family cares for our house like their own. It was left clean & neat. I look foward to having them return again. Michael Lampe

Our family loved it's stay at the Harbor House in Red Hook for the 4th of July week. The location was ideal for our daily trips to the east St. Thomas and St. John beaches. We appreciated the accessibility to Red Hook restaurants/shops and the St. John ferry. The house was beautiful inside and out. We enjoyed the private pool more than words can say - all family members looked forward to using it every day. Harbor House had fantastic views of the yacht harbor. Landscape around the home was lovely. We genuinely felt "at home" for the week because everything we needed was available for our use; washer/dryer, cooking staples and equipment, vacuum, cleaning supplies, beach chairs/bags. This home is obviously new and extremely well cared for by owner/property managers - HIGH quality linens, furniture, hardware. Though we travel a few times a year to the islands/Mexico, home rental was new to our family and we strongly believe that our vacation dollars were well spent. It would be hard for any other property to live up to our standards based on this Harbor House stay. Capt. Lampe was great to work with. We felt confident even before we arrived at Harbor House that this vacation would be a good experience thanks to the positive, helpful communications with Mike. Our family would love to return to St. Thomas and would definitely like to be guests of the Harbor House again.
Owner response:Very nice family. Look foward to having them back again next year. Captain Mike

My fiance' and I were down in the Virgin Islands April 17 - 24, 2008 and we stayed in a beautiful new home called the Harbor House, which overlooked Red Hook Harbor. I would recommend the Harbor House to anyone! We stayed with another couple and we each had our own bedroom/bathroom suite. Each bedroom suite had access to the outside patio. The home had a big swimming pool, which was wonderful to jump into after being at one of the many beautiful beaches all day. The house is located only one street away from a National Park which was perfect for my morning jog. The island has so much to offer, we were never at a loss for something to do! The Virgin Islands and Harbor House should be your next vacation destination. We will definitely be going back! Kurt & Cheryl Waterford, Wisconsin

Privacy of the two main suites on the upper floor located at opposite ends of the house is a very attractive feature. Great view of American Yacht Harbor.Property fronts National Park road which is a shortcut 8 minute walk to Red Hook

St. Thomas, especially the East end is our favorite vacation spot. It was a special birthday for me and Thanksgiving, and I wanted to celebrate with my family in St. Thomas. There were 5 adults and 2 children. Harbor House offered us everything. Beautiful views, a luxury home environment that felt private, cozy, and spacious all at the same time. Inside or outside cooking that was easy to use, even though it was state of the art and ample sitting was available if we chose to eat inside, outside or by the pool. We were in walking distance to casual as well as elegant dining. One evening we took the ferry which is in walking distance from Harbor House to have dinner on St. John. We made only one trip to downtown St.Thomas, as Red Hook offers everything that a person needs and is so much more accessible. We took morning walks in the adjacent National Park, and sat on the benches right next to the ocean and enjoyed morning sun. Beaches on the East end rate in the top 10 of best in the world, we could walk or ride in any direction to reach a beach. Harbor House offered our family the opportunity to be together for large BBQ's on the deck, swimming in the waterfall pool at dusk with the grandkids, and a view all day long in any direction that was breathtaking. The Harbor House was like a home away from home in a setting that was beyond beautiful. My kids and grandkids loved it and want to go back with us each year.
Owner response:The Jurinek's rented the Harbor House over the Thanksgiving Holiday in '07. It's so great to have rentors that leave the house as clean as they found it on arrival. Capt Mike

This property has incredible views and a great location. It is a short walking distance to the island ferry, the beach, restaurants and shops. A fabulous house with ideal floor plan for a family or two separate couples. Everything inside and outside of the home is first class! We will certainly plan to stay at this property again and again. A much better experience than a Five Star Hotel!
Owner response:The Torthost family from Wisconsin rented the Harbor House in Mid March of '08.
