Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

David and I have lived in Oregon for a total of 85 yrs! David is a native from the rainy coast of Newport,Oregon. I am a Calif. transplant from Newport Beach, moving to Oregon in 1975. We both love Ashland! It is a very special community and is a friendly, happy, open little town.
We bought Ann St. after just meeting 4 mths. earlier and totally gutted it. We took out all the walls, except of course, the bathroom and transformed it into a charming and spacious one room cottage. We treated it like a boat and built in large drawers for storage, using beautiful Birch wood through out, also adding redwood trim from David's antique wood stash. Then we added a 400+ sq. ft. deck that has a spectacular view of the Cascade Mountains.
David and I have a micro-distillery in Ashland, the first 'Organic' Micro-distillery in Oregon! We are handcrafting organic vodka and gin using our custom built Still from Germany. We sell our liquor throughout Oregon and now are in California under the brand name of Organic Nation Spirits. We love animals so we do allow pets upon negotiations and extra Pet fee.

Why the Owner Chose Ashland

We actually bought it for David to live in, then as our relationship progressed and we gambled, gave marriage another chance and moved in together at my home. We decided to keep his household items from his former marriage at Annie's and start a vacation rental business. It seemed to be the 'highest and best' use of Annie. And we get to meet some fabulous people from all over the world!

The Unique Benefits of this House

The quiet and views! Ashland has become a very densely populated town, especially in the 'core' downtown, Railroad District area. And yet, Annie's Cottage is only a 5 min. walk to town. And the charm and ambiance of this little home! And the view of the Cascade Mountains is spectacular! Enjoying your morning coffee, tea or evening cocktail on the deck is one of life's simpler pleasures. This is a place where you can renew your relationship with your lover or yourself with the charm of Annie's nurturing environment. David put his love and care into remodeling Annie and it shows~you can see and feel it! Former renters "ooo" & "aaaahhh" , upon moving in and reveling in the charm, views and quietude.

Ashland vacation

We stayed for the month of October and had a wonderful time. Diane and David thought of everything in furnishing the cottage. We didn't need a thing except our own food. The location was excellent for us, easy walks to town, coffee shops, pubs, and dog park.

A perfect place for a stay in Ashland

Guest: Mary (Miami Florida)
Date of Stay: 06/06/11 Review Submitted: 08/09/11

The cottage was clean and comfortable and -- despite my concern about its size -- entirely satisfactory. There was great storage space and the murphy bed (very easy to use) gave a large, comfortable place to sleep without giving up much space during the day. The owners were prompt and helpful for problems (no big ones) including those from my own mechanical/techno ineptitude. If you like deer, they were regular visitors to the neighborhood, and the human next-door neighbors became friends. The location can't be beat for the price and amenities: 12 minute walk to the Shakespeare Festival; 8 minute lazy bike ride to the Growers' Market (not to be missed). I'd rent it again in an instant if I hadn't fallen so in love with Ashland I bought my own place (which, like Annie's cottage, gives me a view of the mountains from my deck: Heaven indeed).

Owner response:Thanks, Mary, glad we could be a part of your Ashland experience!

Great location for BIKE SCHOOL!!

I stayed in Annie's Cottage for the month of May while attending UBI - couldn't have picked a better place. Diane and David are fantastic folks that I really enjoyed getting to know (make sure to visit their Organic Nation distillery while there!). They have created a perfect place to call home while you're away from home -- I can't wait to find a way to come back. David's woodworking detail throughout the cottage is amazing (cabinetry and murphy bed) and gives the cottage a special feel. The place is very well equipped and super comfortable. Great deck and backyard - perfect if you have a dog. The views from the deck are beautiful especially while enjoying a morning coffee or evening grilling.

I stayed at wonderful Annie's for a month in September and October. The light that fills the space is exquisite, starting with beautiful sunrises. The attention to details in the cottage itself is great--there was never anything that I needed that wasn't provided. The deck is private and quiet. Diane and David go out of their way to help out-of-towners connect into the community--both in terms of information and events that offer the opportunity to meet new people. Annie's will be my first choice to stay in Ashland on any repeat visits!

I can't tell you how much my girlfriend and I enjoyed Annie's! We stayed here for two weeks vacation, while I attended the United Bicycle Institute, and we were so happy to be staying in such a charming house. Annie's is the comfortable bungalow that is walking distance to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Ashland Food Co-op and all the lovely restaurants and attractions that Ashland has to offer. The Murphy bed was more comfy than our own bed and with such a large deck, it is hard not to spend all your time outdoors admiring the nibbling deer. Diane and David are such wonderful people and showed us all the hospitality of family. We are honored to call them friends!

Owner response:Adan & Laura, yes, we are honored as well to count you as our friends! Hope to see you next year! DP

Outstanding value for this beautifully appointed, fully equiped cottage. My wife and I (and 2 Yorkies) stayed here for a month. Plenty of storage space, terrific deck, air conditioned etc. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

It was like staying in a modern European studio apartment with thoughtful and wise architectural features to provide a restful oasis. Enjoyed the deck with a great view. Annies place is closer to the hub than many we found on the net that advertised "within walking distance" to Shakespeare.

This charming cozy cottage was a dream come true for us. Since we needed a place with all the immenities in place, this was so perfectly suited for our needs. It was also well situated to downtown Ashland so we were able to walk everywhere. If we ever have the opportunity to work in Ashland again, we'll choose "Annie's". It was delightful in every way. The serene views and privacy from the back deck were special and an added bonus.

I have stayed at Annie's Place twice now, once for two months and once for two weeks and have enjoyed it tremendously. Diane and Dave are terrific and Annie's place is so cute with gorgeous views from the deck. I had my coffee every morning on the deck and it was a great way to start the day. It's completely furnished with everything you need for a stay, close to downtown, and, again, the views are superb.

Owner response:Susan,Met your lovely daughter at the Farmer'sMkt! Hope to see you again next year, reserve early so we can accommodate your timeframe! dcp
