Rented the house for easter weekend for me and my husband and my parents who were traveling to the US. We had a great time walking the trails that are located close to the house, visiting the Norman Rockwell museum as well as a winery in the area. The house had everything we needed! A good kitchen to cook in and a warm fireplace in the main living area. We can't wait to go back and try a different season at the house!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Cabin is as described: new, modern, clean, well-lit, beautiful high ceilings, and well-kept. The theatre room was awesome, big screen and comfy chairs. The pool table was on the smaller side but in good shape + served its purpose. I stayed with 6 other adults so, for 2 unlucky ones, the sleeping arrangements were a bit cramped (they slept in the kid's bunk beds). To be fair, the listing clearly stated that 7 people is the max and the owners generally prefer smaller groups. 5-6 people is probably the ideal size. Still, it worked out just fine. The owners were straightforward and easy to deal with. Overall, I highly recommend this as a rental.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We decided to rent this house literally the day before arrival and it was the best decision we ever made. The house is just gorgeous. It looks like a luxury log cabin. My 2 daughters, ages 7 and 12 were so in love with the house they were hoping for a noreaster so we'd get snowed in. It's that kind of house, the house that you would love to "be" in. We were there 3 nights. Every day we skied at Butternut which was like 5 minutes away and every night after skiing we came home and cooked a fabulous meal. The master bedroom upstairs is roomy and warm and the house has every thing you could ever need as far as appliances and bedding that you only need to bring food and you don't need to shlep it which we did because we found a fantastic grocery store called super Y which was like better than the grocery stores we have in Bedford. We played games, colored, watched terrific movies in the screening room downstairs and my kids had a ball playing air hockey and foosball. It's literally like the perfect house. 2 bedrooms on main level one has 3 bed o(ne bunk bed and another bed). Next to that is a full bathroom and another adorable queen bedroom which my daughter actually went into at night to get privacy as she had so much school work to study. Down stairs is another guest room off the game and screening room and upstairs is a nice size master bedroom. with another bathroom. We made fires in the fireplace(we brought duraflames) skied all day and just had the greatest time. The house was clean and well maintained. The photos are accurate but the house is better in person. Gorgeous. Would recommend without hesitation!!!Don't miss this house you won't regret it. Owners are a pleasure to work with, sweet and accommodating. Some important rings to remember!! If you go on a busy holiday weekend rethink puttting your kids in ski school because honestly it was too crowded so we gave them privates all 3 days and it was the difference between loving skiing and never wanting to ski again. My kids improved with private instruction which was so much better than having one instructor for 8 6 year olds 3 of which were having full out tantrums bc they stood around too much. My daughter ws one of the ones who wasn't happy but after the private lesson that each of my daughters had for 3 hours each day they love love love skiing. Worth the money!!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

A very hassle free experience. Great ownership with a strong knowledge of what guests wants, and it's clear they care about their guests experience. We arrive Thursday night for a long wkend of skiing. Butternut was 10 mins away, however, the house was perfectly located off the main road in a quiet state park. Surrounded by woods, we snow-showed out the back door for a while, trailing lots of animal tracks, frozen streams, etc. The house is well appointed, rooms, beds, bathrooms are very comfortable. Kitchen was a great cooking space. Great room was very warm once we got the fire going. So what are you waiting for? Pull the trigger and look forward to a great weekend.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What an amazing place in the woods of the Berkshires! A weekend away from work and the kids could not have been better anywhere else. A few roaring fires, hikes in the woods and sleeping in without any interruptions was perfect. The house had everything you needed and was very cozy. The theater room in the basement also got a lot of use. We do hope to go back but the only downside was the heat was very low when we arrived and it took almost the whole night to get it to a comfortable level. If there is some way the homeowners could get someone to start the heat before a renter arrives, that would be great. Highly recommend this place and the owner Susan is an excellent host.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The house is just as beautiful as it appears on the pictures and is tucked away in the beautiful berkshires in perfect quiet and calm. It's surrounded by forest and little roads lead to the most scenic, idyllic western Mass townships and farmhouses you could imagine. Inside the house is gorgeous with its tall ceiling and huge windows, and is also very modern. We were able to cook a birthday cake on the fly with just items in the kitchen. Also at every turn is a thoughtful detail to make the stay more comfortable; tissues, coasters, little things that made us feel at home. We absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back. Thanks Susan!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our 2 families had a lovely 5 day stay. The house was the perfect size for the 6 of us. The children had a great time with the in home movie theater. Cozy fires each night. Loved visiting the Shaker Museum, too. Working with Susan was a breeze. We would recommend this house to anyone looking to get away from it all. Bring your own charcoal for the BBQ!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We rented the house for a weekend getaway and had a great time. The owners are friendly and easy to deal with. The location is fantastic, secluded but not isolated. The home is comfortable and well appointed, the flannel sheets a nice touch. Sitting before the fireplace, or watching the projection tv in a reclining movie seats, are great ways to spend a cold, winters night. The owners even leave cozy wraps for our use on the theater seats. The only drawback, and it is a slight one, is the need to think about having the porch and stairs shoveled in the winter. I understand its not feasible to have someone plow ever time there's a flurry, but when it isn't dealt with, it accumulates and turns icy. That said, the owners did leave salt for our use, which was nice. We would certainly consider renting the home again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Perfect setting for a weekend getaway. The property was exactly as described and it was clean and very well maintained. Every amenity that we needed was available and easy to find. The owners were very helpful and easy to work with. I plan on returning to this property and have already recommended it to friends and relatives. It was so nice inside that we didn't venture out into the neighboring towns but we did note that they are close and easy to get to. We did take advantage of the quiet gravel road that leads to the state forest. It was great for walks and jogging. Note that you need to bring your own firewood and kindling. We loved this home :-)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed in this beautiful home with my IL's for their 50th wedding anniversary, with our 2 young daughters and brother-in-law. It was very comfortable for all 5 adults and 2 kids. The kids love the bunk beds with the very cute teddy bears all set up for them. They loved the movie theater in the basement, and we all loved watching movies upstairs and hanging out. A very comfortable home as others have mentioned, exactly like the pictures and quite clean. 25 minute from Great Barrington for shopping and downtown restaurants. We were able to visit so many attractions that were within 1/2 hour including the Norman Rockwell Museum and the Shaker museum, VERY interesting! We would definitely recommend this home and would like to visit again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Location
Owner info
About the owner: Forest Gate is our second home. We are a family that enjoys the outdoors, nature, privacy, quiet and getting away from the crowd for relaxation. During the summer, we either hike or ride our mountain bikes on the trails that are right outside our house; in the winter, it's snowshoeing or cross country skiing. After working up a good appetite, we come home to our well- equipped kitchen and cook up a wonderful meal or take a 20 minute drive to Great Barrington for a special dinner.
Why the Owner Chose Monterey:
We are minutes from a very family- friendly ski resort (Butternut) for winter fun. In the summer, there are 3 lakes nearby for swimming and boating. We are close to Tanglewood and assorted other cultural attractions. We thought the Berkshires were unique in its' combination of culture and nature. We did not find that elsewhere.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Feel like you have really gotten away from it all. All the luxuries of home in the middle of the forest. A perfect cure for nature-deficit disorder. Not just a place to sleep, a destination in and of itself. Check rates and availability before contacting us.
