Life in Venice

Guest: Richard (Calgary, Canada)
Date of Stay: 07/18/11 Review Submitted: 10/29/11

My family and I had great experience in Venice, this charming palazzetto was a large part of this enjoyable trip. My 19 and 13 year old daughters enjoyed all the history and sites of Venice, they found the apartment to be comfortable and a great place to relax at the end of the day. The kitchen was small, but had everything we needed. The beds, bathroom and all the rooms were very clean. We enjoyed the pizza at the pizzaria just around the corner, the service was personal and very friendly. We walked everywhere in Venice and found this was perfect base to set out from, including evening walks along the water to Punta della Dongana. Venice was a highlight of our trip to Italy, we all want to come back and would definitely stay here again. Thank-you Barbara, you have a wonderful home!

A Most Enjoyable Stay

Two friends and I decided to come to Venice at the end of Carnivale at the very last minute and this was all that was available. I thought it might be too far away from everything. But we all loved the area. It's very quiet with some nice restaurants nearby and the walk along the Zattere in the late afternoon was wonderful. It's also a lovely 10 or 15 minutes walk from the bus and train station. The apartment itself is very nicely appointed and comfortable. There is a long flight of stairs to climb to the apartment, but I'm over 60 and had no problem.

wonderful Venetian experience

We stayed at the house during Easter weekend and I am so happy that we were able to see the real Venetian living just minutes away from the crowded grand canal. We enjoyed strolling along the small and more serene canals on our way to the house, which is a 15 minutes walk from Piazza Roma. We passed old churches, squares and fresh vegetable/fruits boat/stands on our way to bridge Academia and it was a beautiful stroll of about 15 minutes. The house was very clean and nicely decorated. Even though we didn't cook, we found the kitchen very well equipped. The washer/dryer downstairs was very handy. Barbara, the owner, provided a very useful packet full of precise instruction and helpful recommendations. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who would like to have an authentic Venetian experience.

An authentic Venetian getaway!

We visited Venice for Semana Santa in mid April and our stay in this property rental could not have been more fitting for an authentic weekend of la dolce far niente. As three women traveling from Spain, this home accommodated us in size, character, location and authenticity. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfortable and cozy, the bathrooms are clean and easy to use, and the decoration is simple with a touch of Venetian flare. The location of this rental is the best part, it is tucked away in a quiet courtyard full of locals but is only a couple of bridges away from the main sites. The woman who welcomed us only speaks Italian but was very friendly and did her best to help us. Using the emails and other information from the owners, we were able to design the perfect three day stay in Venice despite the language barrier. We are so happy with our trip to Venice, and our lodging definitely enhanced our experience.

A Perfect Place

Guest: Patricia (New York City)

My husband and I recently returned from a week-long stay in this Venetian Apartment in Dorsoduro. We loved everything about this home-away-from-home. The location was great. Outside the more crowded touristy areas. Very near to Campos Santa Margherita and Barnaba. Charming Osterias nearby. And, the apartment itself was wonderful. Spotlessly clean. Thoughtfully furnished with nice art, a fully stocked kitchen, books and cd's. We recommend this apartment highly, and can't wait until our next visit.

This rental is a wonderful place to come home to after the tourist cruch in Venice. Being in the smaller Venetian neighborhood was so much better than with all of the tourists along the Grand Canal. The apartment had everythng that you would need to have a nice stay in Venice. The information packet sent before our visit contained some very helpful info. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

A Blissful Venetian Summer

Guest: BellaVenezia (Brooklyn, NY)
Date of Stay: 06/15/09 Review Submitted: 03/28/10

I stayed in the second floor apartment for almost two months during my internship at a museum in Venice along with one roommate. I can safely say that this apartment is what helped make my marvelous experience in Venice what it was. Situated in a quiet spot (with fortunately no tourist activity) local cafes, shops, and a supermarket are steps away from the apartment. Campo Santa Margherita is about a ten minute walk away and is a great spot for cafes and gelato during the day and lots of bars to choose from at night. The apartment was also very close to the waterside promenade called the Zattere. You get a real taste for the life of Venetian locals. The apartment itself was very comfortable, clean and equipped by Italian standards with a fully stocked kitchen, two good sized bedrooms, and newly remodeled bathrooms as well as a washer AND dryer (virtually unheard of in Italy). Both the housekeeper and caretaker of the apartment were very helpful and professional. The apartment is a wonderful retreat after a day of sightseeing or other activities. I'll also add that the apartment was the envy of my fellow interns who were staying in multiple apartments across the city. I highly recommend it for a short or long term stay.

Venice apartment

Guest: sag harbor (Sag Harbor, NY)
Date of Stay: 10/23/09 Review Submitted: 10/30/09

My 2 girlfriends and I stayed stayed there last weekend. The apartment was clean. There was only one toilet roll per bathroom left for us. The steps going up to the apartment are dreadful especially since we had heavy luggage. On the Saturday nite, the dog from the apartment above us, barked for almost 2 hours straight until about 2 am, so we couldn't sleep. The location is great and you can walk to anywhere you want. The owner was nice and let us store our luggage all day on Sunday in the foyer.

Live A Venetian Life In This Apartment on a Square

Guest: Longing for Venice (Alexandria, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 04/06/09 Review Submitted: 04/14/09

What a wonderful place to call home for our 6 days in Venice. The apartment was cosy, immaculate (at least before our 3 kids moved in) and had all we needed (toilet paper, towels, dish soap, other necessities). After our apartment in Florence, which offered a single saucepan as its cooking supplies, I was thrilled to find a really well-stocked kitchen with plenty of plates, pots, pans, and also staples, like olive oil and salt. Although we ate out some, we also shopped at the local markets (including the fish market in Campo Santa Margherita) and had some wonderful meals! We also enjoyed the garden, where my daughter kept an eye on a bird hatching her eggs right in the jessamine vine. And we even got maid service in the middle of our stay! Sleeping 5 would be a bit of a squeeze long-term since we have 2 teenagers but it was very do-able for a short-term stay. And the location in Dosoduro could not have been better. We had wanted to avoid the tourist crush of San Marco during Easter week, and we did! We were in a neighborhood where the kids walked to school in the morning, the nonas walked to the market, and Venetian life went on all around us. We walked a little further to see the sights than we would have had we been in San Marco, but the evening quiet and the chance to see a living Venice far outweighed the additional 10 minutes of walking. It's delightful to be near the Zattere, and the best gelato in Venice at Nico's, which we visited every day. Plenty of markets nearby, good local restaurants (La Bitta was special!), and a church with stunning art on every canal corner. The housekeeper arranged a water taxi for us to get to the airport for our early morning flight -- an exciting way to leave Venice if you have to. I would recommend this apartment to anyone, and will make every effort to stay there again when I return to the magical world of Venice. Barbara, the owner, was wonderful to deal with, as were Maria and Natasha.
