Location: Duncans Mills, Russian River, Sonoma County, Wine Country, California, USA (25 mi East of Santa Rosa on the Russian River near the Coast)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 4-8)
With expansive views of the Russian River, graceful hills and the Coast Range Mountains, Casa Lucia enjoys a beautiful, sunny setting with easy river access for kayaking, canoing and swimming. The meadow between the house and the river has plenty of room to set up the net for volleyball and badminton, toss the Frisbee or play baseball. The wrap-around deck is the perfect place to watch the mist floating on the river in the early morning and for outdoor dining later in the day. You’ll see Osprey, Canadian Geese, Cormorants, Blue Heron and the cows and sheep as they graze their way up and down the hills. At least 8 varieties of ducks can be seen bobbing on the water. Keep the binoculars near for the occasional visit by a pair of harbor seals who sometimes travel up from the nursery at the mouth of the river and you’ll want to get a good look at their puppy dog faces. A nighttime soak in the hot tub provides a front row seat for stargazing and the massage jets stimulate conversation and relaxation. Most people never want to leave this river house, but just sit, watch and enjoy home cooking from the charming, well-equipped kitchen along with a good local wine.
In the morning, breathe the fresh country air on a walk to the local bakery and enjoy pastries made in the wood-fired oven along with a perfect cup of coffee (they roast it right there in the shop). Duncans Mills is ideally situated on the river, only ten minutes from the resort town of Guerneville and in the other direction, ten minutes from the ocean beaches. It was named for the sawmills that once cut timber to build and re-build San Francisco after the 1906 Earthquake. It was the northern terminus of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad and the old Victorian station is still looking good as it approaches its 130th birthday. The turn of the century buildings have been lovingly cared for and provide a glimpse of small-town life 100 years ago. The town is well-known for its art galleries and restaurants.
If the urge to explore arises, you can hit the road and cruise along the river, past vineyards and through redwood forests. A few miles to the west are the ocean beaches and the rugged Sonoma Coast, to the east are the charming tasting rooms on the undiscovered Sonoma Wine Trail. You can pause in picturesque towns, and stroll through parks of giant redwoods that rival the worlds tallest trees. Dozens of food emporiums serve creative dishes with local produce and seafood. Unique shops feature handmade goods as well as coastal and redwood curios.
If you prefer some exercise, we provide 3 adult bicycles and maps of our favoirte local cycling routes. You'll find yourself rolling down some of the most enchanting country roads in Northern California and a chance to visit one of the old logging towns deep in the forested hills.
Casa Lucia sleeps up to 8 between the two bedrooms and several open-up sofas in the sun room and the living room. There is a full bath with shower, a half bath, and an outdoor shower as well. The house is light and airy, with a generous dining area, living room and a spacious sunroom with river views from three walls of glass. Old fashion gas fireplaces will keep you cozy on a chilly night. The cheerful kitchen is fully equipped and includes stone countertops. If you want to stay connected, there is high-speed cable internet access and digital telephone with unlimited long distance calling available.

Thank you "Casa Lucia" for a most fun, sweet and lovely week..your home was so comfortable, warm, open, airy and amazing view from any room. ..Took a moment to unwind from our hectic lives, but when we finally took a breath and embraced the riches of the river ...it felt divine. We loved spending time in the river room with the binoculars, music, deck and ofcourse the delicious hot tub..what more could one ask for...The lawn so beautiful and a fun to play on..our children played non-stop football, frisbee and tag. One even got stung by a bee on his foot (all was fine). The birds are amazing to watch..Every morning, 13 white American cranes would swim by as if to wish us a beautiful day..the herons, cormorants, turkey vultures, hawks and seagulls..the cute merganzers..all so fun! And the river--kayaks and canoing up and down the river..what a blast! From morning til night we enjoyed every moment and thank you for sharing your home. We also took day trips all around and even rode bikes to Duncans Mills farmer's market and bakery. We have made some wonderful memories here at Casa Lucia and hope to visit you again soon...and the Stars at night are spectacular! thank you
