Maison Venasque- A French-Country-Village Lover’s Dream Come True.
It's no wonder Venasque has been officially designated by the French Government as "One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France." It is perched on a rock promontory overlooking the spectacular Vaucluse Valley and Mt. Ventoux, tallest peak in Provence. This enchanting village looks much the way it did in turn-of-the-century photos we've found at local flea markets. It even has real church bells that call farmers home for lunch. Stone houses with red tile roofs are packed together, going every-which-way. It's impossible to tell where one house ends and the next begins.
Maison Venasque is just such a house. Within 700-year-old stone walls, Maison Venasque was rebuilt sometime this century and lovingly updated quite a bit more recently! Rooms are decorated with tasteful, traditional Provençal antiques and authentic fabrics, rugs from the markets of Morocco and (mostly) modern amenities. It is ideal for two families with children, or for two or three couples. You can settle in here and do as little or as much as you want. Spend your days strolling around the tiny town, imagining what history these stone walls could tell. Or settle in on the rooftop terrace with a good book and a glass of vin rouge.
For day trips, there are Roman antiquities, village markets, glorious lavender fields in one season, bright red poppies in another and cheery sunflowers in between. Wind through the vineyards to romantic little villages like Gigondas, Le Beaucet or Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Farther afield, visit Orange, site of two of the oldest remaining Roman structures in the world. Have lunch on the town square in Avignon and watch the world go by. Drive to the Mediterranean coast for a day in Cassis or Bandol. Or just meander through the towns that dot the countryside.
On your lazy days, step around the corner for fresh croissants, go a few steps farther for the International Herald Tribune, then relax! If you decide to cook, you’ll need to plan a short trip (5km) to St. Didier to visit an excellent butcher shop, two green grocers and a tiny supermarket for everything you need.
Our well-received House Guide, provided when you book, contains useful information and well-tested restaurant recommendations, wine tasting notes and day trip itineraries. A complimentary bottle of local wine awaits you upon arrival. If French country village life is your recurring dream, you’ve found the perfect place to make it your reality.

My family and I had a magical time. This rental allows you to jump right into the French provincial experience seamlessly. How do you say, “their casa is your casa” en francais? Without a doubt, it was the most comfortable and thoughtful foreign vacation house I ever rented. It would take too long to list all the details we appreciated and loved. The web description does not begin to provide even a fraction of what this charming place offers. Had I known how easy this stay would be, I would’ve planned to stay longer. Guess I just have to return next year.

Our stay in Maison Venasque was the most enjoyable part of our vacation in France. Venasque is a lovely village with just enough interesting things to do. The house was very comfortable and well-kept with a delightful garden space, perfect for eating and painting. The rooftop terrace was beautiful at night with the lights of the village. In the day Mt. Ventoux is visible in the distance.

Pure magic, we loved this place. We have rented in France before, but nothing of this quality. The village is perfect, beautiful and medieval without being overrun with tourists like Gordes, Rousillon etc. The house is beautiful and very well appointed, much better than a typical French rental house. It is in prime position in the village with the baker, convenience store and restaurants 20 meters away around the corner. Views of the Ventoux mountain and the valley below are spectacular from the roof terrace, Stephanie (a New York artist) painted a beuatiful series of paintings from that exquisite location, perfect! More charm than you could ever want, don't sleep on the Venasque house, we will be back again and again. We rented another house in Bedoin right after Venasque... and all we wanted to do was go back to Venasque the whole time. 10/10
