Lovely spot to spend a week in Charleston

Guest: Rachel (Cary, NC)
Date of Stay: 04/01/12 Review Submitted: 04/09/12

We spent a terrific week in this lovely home. My parents, significant other and 5 year old son were quite comfortable in this space. The house is beautifully furnished. You couldn't ask for a better location, all of the restaurants (High Cotton and Magnolias, just to name a couple, were steps away). East Bay Street is pretty busy so escaping to the courtyard where this house is located was nice. We also spent a lot of time on the patio enjoying the weather. The owners are excellent hosts, very responsive and helpful. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Charleston. Thank you!!

This townhome is in a terrific location for vacationers. It is in the heart of the historic district and is close to several excellent restaurants and sight-seeing attractions. The market and other shops are also nearby. The townhome was clean, very nicely deocorated, and comfortable. The entrance to the townhome was a little hard to find and I would recommend arriving before dark if it is your first visit.

Our group of 4 girlfriends stayed at this wonderful Charleston town home. The location could not have been better, downtown but off the main path. The inside was so inviting with everything you could possibly need. We will certainly stay here again.

Perfect Pied-a-Terre in a Dream Location!

Guest: Tara (Des Moines, IA)
Date of Stay: 03/16/12 Review Submitted: 03/28/12

My family (2 couples + an 18 month old) spent an perfect week in this lovely townhome. The location is beyond good - it's really perfect for just about everything you'd ever care to do in Peninsular Charleston. We love good food, and many of Charleston's best restaurants and right around the corner from this condo. I walked to many of them in high heels with no problem. High Cotton, Magnolia's, Blossom, Cypress, McCrady's, Cru Cafe, Amen Street Seafood, Social Wine Bar, Pearlz Oyster Bar, etc... all of them are very, very close. (I only wish we'd stayed longer so we could have tried them all!) Slightly further afield, we enjoyed The Peninsula Grill, FIG, and Basil. But enough about the restaurants - all the shopping on King Street, the grand homes South of Broad, and even the College of Charleston was walkable if you're in decent shape. As for the condo itself, it was so nice to come back "home" after a day out exploring, to enjoy the peaceful courtyard and the sound of the fountain. The owners really have thought of just about everything. Anytime we'd catch ourselves thinking "it would be nice to have ... x," we'd soon discover it to be there. Ex: umbrellas, a corkscrew, scissors, etc. The condo offered us plenty of room to spread out, which was important with our young son. Childproofing was quite simple - we just moved a few breakables to higher shelves. He was always supervised, of course, but we didn't feel constantly on edge that he would damage something. The furnishings and decor were very nice and homey (though I only wish I had crystal chandeliers in my home!) Wireless internet was fast and convenient, and we loved the ease of the keycode entry (no keys to worry about losing!). All in all, this condo was lovely and I would stay here again in a heartbeat. There's only a few minor caveats: parking is very convenient in a nearby garage (once you find it, it's simple), but because the condo is in a courtyard, it can take a little more time to bring your luggage into the condo, even if you've parked the car on a street very close by. The master bedroom's bed was very comfy with high-quality bedding, but the other couple who came with us said the guest bedroom's mattress was a bit uncomfortable. The plumbing is very old and very... touchy. You have to be quite careful to use verrrrry little TP and even then, the toilets may clog. Probably to be expected with older plumbing, though it's a small frustration to note in advance.

Excellent location, great condo

Guest: John & mary (Tiverton, RI)
Date of Stay: 02/10/12 Review Submitted: 03/08/12

My wife and I spent two weeks in February at this condo. We loved it! The unit is spacious and welcoming, the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. The owners were attentive throughout the stay, inquiring how things were going, and offering restaurant suggestions. If you have not been to Charleston before (we had not) you could not pick a better location. Within 6 blocks there are over a dozen of Charleston's best restaurants, and it couldn't be more central to the City. We highly recommend this condo!

Wonderful weekend, wonderful townhouse!

Guest: Karen Bowman (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 01/13/12 Review Submitted: 01/17/12

We enjoyed this townhouse so much, we can't wait for another excuse to get to Charleston and stay here again. The location is terrific, we parked our car for the weekend and walked everywhere. The townhouse itself was spotlessly clean, the bedding and furniture were very comfortable and the decorating was lovely. We did not cook in the kitchen, which is actually very inviting and very well stocked, but we ate very well...Friday dinner at Fulton 5, Sat lunch at Monza, Sat dinner at Leaf, Sun brunch at Bull Street Market. Every meal was great; good we were there to run a half marathon on Sat morning!

Look no further for somewhere to stay! This was truly a home away from home. The townhouse is perfect for a vacation. Our family of four stayed over Christmas and felt very much at home. The owners have truly thought of everything from comfortable furniture to an extremely well-appointed kitchen. Little touches made all the difference. You are so close to everything from fabulous restaurants to shopping to walking along the Battery. We barely used our car. We enjoyed the space and it felt like we had lived there for years! We ate at and enjoyed Magnolias, High Cotton, Leaf & Poogan's Porch!

Date of Stay: 11/10/11 Review Submitted: 11/15/11

Just wanted to let you know what a fabulous time we had in Charleston. Everything was perfect. The townhouse was everything I had hoped for and more. Because the weather was so wonderful, we spent most of our time in the courtyard when we were at the townhouse. We all wished we could have stayed longer. No doubt the best place we ate while in Charleston was at the Leaf. We had Sunday Brunch there and everything was great. They have a beautiful patio to dine on and we took full advantage of that. We did not want to leave. Thank you so much for sharing your home.

Could not have asked for a better location. Everything in the historic district is within an easy walk. The townhouse is beautiful and even if you are a gourment cook its hard to imagine that you won't find everything you need in the very well stocked kitchen. I use VRBO extensively in my travels both domestically and overseas and have never stayed in a property that was better appointed, cleaner or as centrally located.

We couldn't have expected more, and the 'French Quarter' location was perfect. By the end of our stay, we were calling it home! You won't need a car as you can walk or use the free trolley to get almost anywhere you want to go. Resturants to try, Poogan's Porch, High Cotton (great martini's and jazz nightly), S.N.O.B and Husk. For an evening cocktail and great view of the city at night, try the roof top at Grill 225! We'll be back as I can't think of a better place to stay while in Charleston.

Fantastic Townhouse, Perfect Location in Historic Charleston

Guest: Deb (Kansas)
Date of Stay: 09/09/11 Review Submitted: 09/22/11

We loved our three night stay in this fabulous Townhouse. Well appointed, comfortable beds, tastefully furnished and wonderful courtyard. We rented a car "because we are from Kansas" and can't imagine not needing a one, but the car was in the parking garage the entire time we were there. The Townhouse is in a safe neighborhood with a gated courtyard and within walking distance of all the great resturants, shopping, and historic sites. We will definitely stay here again. We have used VRBO for all our travel over the last few years and have always been pleased with the accomodations but this was the best place we have rented to date.

What a wonderful home in a fantastic location - smack in the middle of an area with dozens of great restaurants, with a shared area around a fountain which is just perfect for late evening chats with friends. An ideal and well-appointed rental for a stay in Charleston, relaxing and so much nicer than a hotel. We had a wonderful time and would love to return in the future!

We stayed at Lodge Alley for two nights on our first visit to Charleston. What an amazing city, and what a wonderful "home base" to stay in! We traveled with our 9 month old daughter (the townhome isn't childproofed, but didn't expect it to be), as well as my aunt and cousin, and it was great to have a fully equipped kitchen to prepare dinner in once the baby went to bed. All the reviews are accurate, this is a fantastic place to stay!

Even Better Than Expected

Guest: Laura (Cahrleston, SC)
Date of Stay: 06/23/11 Review Submitted: 06/29/11

I live in Charleston, and rented this condo for my girl's weekend because of its prime location for dining, shopping, and touring. The condo was beautifully decorated and well appointed. We had everything we needed. The condo's bedrooms were comfortable. The larger front bedroom (with a balcony) uses the upstairs hall bath, while the back bedroom is ensuite. The kitchen is nicely equipped, and has been renovated. It is rather small, but is fine for 4 people. We mainly just cooked breakfast, since there are so many great places to eat on the same block as the condo! The thing I was nervous about before the trip was the lack of on-site parking. While all of downtown is within walking distance, we were planning a trip to the beach and to Mt Pleasant, and would need a car for those activities. Well, the parking garage was a short block away, and easy to get in/out of. The cost was only $12/day, with in/out privileges. No problem at all. A very, very easy walk. The property was very clean, with good quality linens and towels provided. I would reccommend this condo to friends and family without hesitation. PS- Book lunch or dinner reservations at Husk on Queen St before you arrive. It was phenomenal, but you won't get in unless you call a few weeks in advance.

The owner was very nice and responded to inquiries in a timely manner. We highly recommend it. We loved Charleston. It's restaurants (Barbara Jane's, Poogan's Porch, Jestine's, and Sticky Fingers), market, parks, streets, and people are all charming and entertaining.

We wanted to spend some time with friends who had moved away several years ago. This was perfect. The home was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. We parked the cars in the garage nearby and didn't retrieve them until we were ready to go home...we were able to walk to everything. The courtyard was just right for our late afternoon cocktails before we set off on foot to one of the lovely restaurants nearby. We particularly enjoyed Magnolia's. It is a good idea to make dinner reservations in advance. We have recommended this home to anyone who will listen.

I was part of a girls getaway weekend in this lovely home. All of the reviews I read on this property when deciding on a location for our group were extremely favorable and now I know why. The owners were very helpful in answering questions and just overall in every area. Their home in Charleston is charming, comfortable and well equipped. We were able to park the car and enjoy a lovely weekend walking everywhere. The courtyard was beautiful and so enjoyable in the afternoons for our happy hours. We loved the location - in the heart of town and in the middle of a large courtyard. We also appreciated our own private courtyard. The townhome was immaculate and, with two large bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, was more than adequate for 4 people. Although we chose to eat out, rather than cook, the kitchen was fully equipped with every imaginable applicance. To sum it up - all four of us LOVED IT!!

Everything in the condo is top quality, from the comfortable beds to the equipment in the kitchen. The location in Charlestown is perfect - right in the heart of all the action and only two blocks from the water. You have a beautiful home that is extremely well equipped. You have thought of everything both in the living space and in the kitchen (right down to a drawer with pens and paper). I sometimes judge a place by the available lights and comfortable chairs for evening reading and relaxing. Everywhere I looked there was a comfy chair and a good light! To say your place is the perfect location for restaurants and the sights of historic Charleston would be a major understatement. I loved being able to walk everywhere. Thank you for providing us with a lovely respite from our cold winter.

Cannot say enough how perfectly lovely Tom and Sharon's townhome is. The location is absolutely the best. We did not get back in our car the entire weekend after we unpacked and parked. The unit is furnished beautifully and equipped with every single thing that was needed--no, I should say wanted--for our stay. So much better than staying in a hotel room especially since we were traveling with another couple. The townhome allowed us to enjoy mornings together on the terrace and "happy hour" was enjoyed there as well. Sooo many great restaurants to enjoy within a minute or so from the townhome. I am working on getting a "girls' trip" together and will definitely be calling Sharon and Tom to request another stay. Just the perfect place to be when in Chafleston.

Sharon and Tom have made this beautiful home in the French Quarter a wonderfully romantic, and charming vacation for their guests. Our dear friends went with us on an adult only 3 night 4 day vacation and we could not have felt more at home. From the fine linens, to the fine furnishings. Returning from a day of shopping and dining we all felt like kings and queens holding court. We deinfinitely will be back. All the best, Tracy,Jeff ,Roy and Terri!!!!!!! .

Wow, hard to say how great our visit and stay were at the Johnson's home. The home was fully equipped and beautifully decorated. Charleston was under a heat advisory and we stayed cool and comfortable. Once we parked the car we never needed to use it again. The location is unbeatable for convenience to everything!! We would highly recommend this home and would not think of staying any place else when we return for another visit to Charleston.

Your Charleston townhouse - perfect!

Your townhouse was absolutely perfect for our needs. Plenty of room for 2 couples and all the amenities we could ever want. The kitchen is the nicest and best equipped of any previous rental. The spotless decor is warm and inviting, a wonderful eclectic mix of historic Charleston and contemporary design. The French Quarter location was ideal. We parked the car upon arrival and never used it till we went home, being within walking distance of our 4 Spoleto venues and close to many fine restaurants and attractions. Everything was as advertised and more. Thanks for a great vacation. We will definitely consider going back.

What a beautiful place to stay! Our trip was wonderful, and this was the perfect place - so much nicer and more lovely than a hotel (and more reasonable in cost!) Walking distance to absolutely everything - and parking is a breeze just a short block away. I will have a hard time staying anywhere else in Charleston from now on!

We were very lucky to find such a great place for our Christmas Holiday trip to Charleston. We felt like we were at home for Christmas. The location is excellent for taking in downtown Charleston with great restaurants and shopping right outside the door. Its also easy access to the Cooper River Bridge to visit the Charleston area beaches. The place itself is very charming and had everything we needed for our week stay. We would definitely stay again!

What a super vacation condo in just the right location in Charleston! We stayed for 5 days with friends from Boston and it worked out great! The place is furnished beautifully and right in the center of things (esp if you like terrific restaurants!), but also very quiet. This is our first VRBO experience, but we will sure do it again and stay at Sharon and Tom's when we return to Charleston!

This is our second year in a row staying at the Johnson's town house, and we absolutely loved both experiences. The home is gorgeous and fabulously furnished--top to bottom-- and they've equipped it with everything you could need to feel at home in Charleston. Also, the location is second to none-- within walking distance of EVERYTHING! We originally chose this home for our 2008 Charleston trip instead of a hotel because it would provide a common area where we could reconnect with the friends we traveled with. It completely exceeded our expectations, so much so that we returned again this year and we hope to make it tradition for years to come. This home truly is a crucial piece of our Charleston experience. We love, love, LOVE the Johnson's pied a'terre!
