McKenzie View is a lovingly restored historic home on Lake Flower in the village of Saranac Lake in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. The house retains original family furnishings and antiques and is heated and available year round.
Relax in a large but cozy living room with a wood burning fireplace and a splendid view of lake and mountains. Test your culinary skills in a roomy, fully equipped kitchen. Adjacent to the kitchen is a sun-filled breakfast room and a formal dining room that seats eight.
Wake up to the sunrise over the lake and mountains in a queen-sized bed in the master suite with a twin bed in an adjoining room. Two other bedrooms have double beds. Two twin beds are available in the quiet second floor porch that backs a wooded hillside. There is a full bath with shower on the second floor, a full bath with claw-foot tub on the third floor, and a half bath on the first floor.
Just minutes from Lake Placid and Olympic sites, and twenty miles from Whiteface Mountain, the village retains much of its historic charm, with its numerous cure cottages, active Main Street, and century-old traditions such as the Winter Carnival in February. Main Street is a five-minute walk along the lake from the house.
The Visitors Interpretative Center in nearby Paul Smiths, the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, and the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake provide opportunities to learn more about the Adirondacks. Annual events in the region include the Ironman Triathlon, Empire State Games, the I Love New York horse shows, Lake Placid Film Forum, and Plein Air Art Fesitval.
The third-generation owner has a graduate degree in building conservation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is lovingly preserving the century-old house. Enjoy your stay on a historic street lined with many other lovely older homes. We are sure you will enjoy the house and region as much the Roberson family has!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1982
About the owner: My father was raised in this home, which has been in our family for nine decades, and I spent every summer here as a child, nourishing my life-long love of the Adirondacks. It was always my desire to live in the house one day, and vacation rentals allow me to share this lovely home with others while defraying expenses. My father, of course, is thrilled that I have acquired the home and am actively restoring it, bit by bit. Architectural and artistic skills seem to run in my family's blood: my great-uncle was the prominent Adirondack architect William Distin, my cousin is an architectural project manager, my great-grandfather and brother are professional photographers, and my undergraduate degree is in painting and drawing. My graduate degree in building conservation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has fostered enduring connections in the preservation community and I have come to love Saranac Lake as my second home. Combined with my first graduate degree in library science, guests appreciate the fine library of local authors, fiction, and Adirondack literature. The kitchen may be my favorite room: spacious yet warm in its antiquity, I know you'll enjoy preparing meals for your family as much as I have.
Why the Owner Chose Saranac Lake:
This home has been in my family for over 90 years, and it was only natural for me to want to preserve the family connection to the Adirondacks. Saranac Lake continues to be a vibrant community of involved citizens and has become an arts mecca in the Adirondacks.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is a mere five-minute walk to Main Street and a short drive to many outdoor and cultural activities.
