Big Bear Cabin at Bear Den is a magnificent mountain view log cabin with so much to offer! It has lots of room with roughly 1,350 square feet, two bedrooms (both have queen beds), two bathrooms, loft (queen sleeper sofa), 480 square foot front porch with hot tub overlooking Humpback Mountain, cozy stacked stone gas log fireplace, abundant amenities, antler chandelier over the log dining room table, convenient location, and more! Big Bear Cabin is located in the Bear Den community directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 324.8 in Spruce Pine, NC.
Nestled in the heart of the Pisgah National Forest, Big Bear Cabin is located within 5 minutes of the Orchard at Altapass, 10 minutes of the areas best gem mining, 15 minutes of the nationally acclaimed Penland School of Crafts, 10 minutes of the beautiful Linville Falls Recreation Area, 15 minutes of Grandfather Mountain, 25 minutes of Mount Mitchell, and 45 minutes of the ski slopes.

- Private Hot Tub : The hot tub is a large 4 person Hot Springs brand hot tub (i.e. the best hot tub brand in the world) and sits on the front porch overlooking the short and long range mountain views. It is a one-of-a-kind experience relaxing in it at night with the outside porch lights turned off, looking up at the millions of stars in the sky.

- Mountain View : The short and long range views from Big Bear Cabin are really amazing. Big Bear Cabin directly faces our short range view of Humpback Mountain. On clear days, there are also incredible long range views of Mount Mitchell that can be seen on the left side of the cabin.

- Bear Den Community: Big Bear Cabin is located in the Bear Den community directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bear Den is an incredibly fun community with a vast number of amenities to enjoy during your stay at Big Bear Cabin. Bear Den consists of over 400 sparsely developed acres and is located inside Pisgah National Forest. There is a lake with sandy beach area for swimming, fishing (no North Carolina fishing license needed), paddle-boating (for rent), and canoeing (for rent). Bear Den has miles of hiking trails, a waterfall, two fun playgrounds for the little ones, basketball court, horse-shoes, volleyball and badminton, shuffleboard, ping-pong, arcade, and recreation hall which hosts entertainment seasonally. There is also a trading post which carries basic groceries, ice, drinks, firewood, souvenirs, information on local things to do, etc.
- Suitability
- No Pets Allowed : Please do not bring pets to Big Bear Cabin. We love animals, but do not wish to have them in the cabin.
- Minimum Age Limit for Renters : Renters must be 21 years of age.
- Smoking Not Allowed : Please do not smoke inside of Big Bear Cabin. We have a decorative pot filled with sand on the front porch to be used as an ashe tray.

Had a great time with family. Shared lots of stories while sitting in the hot tub after our hiking trips. We hiked to Crabtree Falls, well worth it. We saw some tracks that made lots of conversation for the evening. Very nice cabin away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Great place to recharge!

THIS IS A COMMENT A VISITOR RECENTLY LEFT IN THE GUEST BOOK IN OUR CABIN. The "Bridge-ettes" plus one arrived on a gorgeous fall afternoon from the Lake Norman area of North Carolina. After taking several false turns, we finally found Big Bear Cabin and it was so worth it. The view from the deck is spectacular. We kept watching one maple tree as it turned more red each day. Our goal was to play bridge, relax with friends, and check off an item on our bucket list - zip lining. All were accomplished with many laughs and fond memories. Our mascot the cabin moose, Mr. Bullwinkle, kept a watch for us while we were gone on our adventures. He is an avid bridge player and book reader as well! Food, wine, and organic fresh ground coffee were a plenty... Yum Yum! Sleeping with the windows open at night and sunny afternoons on the deck playing bridge... Amazing! Apples to Apples was the game of choice in the evenings... Hilarious! Truly a wonder-filled vacation! With heart felt thanks, 5 kindred spirits. The "Bridge-ettes" plus one shall return!
