Why the Owner Chose Fairhope

This location is at the point of 3 bays. Our home is the last home and we can watch the boats coming in and out of Big Mouth. Big Mouth is the name locals call the location where 2 of the bays meet.

The Unique Benefits at this House

When you walk into Shangri-Log you will notice all the quality workmanship of this beautiful log home(cabinet maker built this home). The chefs kitchen with GE Monogram appliance, gorgeous Brazilan cherry, travertine and Italian marble floors, the latest TV surround sound system. The Master suite and bath has a double whirlpool tub and 2+ person shower with multiple shower heads. My wife's great grandfather built the dining table. He installed wood floors in Mobile in the early 1900's,her grandfather used the table at one time in his tv shop, notice the burn marks.

Owner's Map of Fairhope

Dawn and I always dreamed of having a place on the bay. We bought this place and thought, what can we name it. Shangri-La(Shangri-Log) is a mystical place that words can't describe. The views of 3 different bays and breezes from the bay and gulf are unbelievable. Our white sandy beach and location at the point of the bays make this place special. The location is so close to quaint downtown Fairhope with shops and restaurants and Gulf Shores with all the tourist things to do.

"Girls" Trip

Guest: One of the "Girls" (New Orleans, LA)
Date of Stay: 01/13/12 Review Submitted: 01/17/12

The house was wonderful in many respects--especially ample bathrooms when 8 ladies need to shower and primp won the prize! We loved the seating areas in the kitchen, dining room and living room--all comfy and plentiful. The eclectic art work was an eye-appealing plus and we enjoyed watching the sunset on the deck. We had a bit of an issue regulating the temperature since it tended to be very warm upstairs on one side and chilly on the other. Sort of figured it out on the last night. Two suggestions: a second key would have been helpful and the downstairs powder room has a temperamental toilet--needs to be checked out. We would highly recommend this house especially for a ladies weekend!

Owner response:Hey Ladies thanks for the suggestions. I feel real good that 8 ladies only had 3 issues..wow. I will address the issues..come back and stay with us soon...Donnie

Perfect!

Guest: Naaman & Louise (Mobile, AL)
Date of Stay: 12/29/11 Review Submitted: 01/02/12

Our family traveled from near and far (Alabama, Alaska, New York and Florida) to be together over the New Year holiday. The Shangri Log was just as described...it fit our family perfectly. Everything from fishing, to watching the dolphins frolic in the bay to polar bear swimming, watching the beautiful sunsets or just relaxing on the large deck...it was all perfect. We also enjoyed the pool table, wii and the very large, amazing kitchen! Late night games and watching movies added to the fun. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful log cabin beach house with us. We created memories we won't quickly forget. P.S. We did have some trouble with the tankless hot water heater but after calling the owner, a repair man was sent out and the problem was solved very quickly and graciously.

Owner response:Shangri-Log is a place for memories. So many families and mine have made similar memories. Thanks and come to visit again. Donnie

Beautiful Home, Wonderful Stay

Guest: SingerMom (West Point, MS)
Date of Stay: 10/01/11 Review Submitted: 10/03/11

We have just returned from our stay at the Shangri--Log. While our men and sons stayed at the USS Alabama, we ladies and daughters came down for a tea party in downtown Mobile and were living the high life at this beautiful property. The house is gorgeous and open. The girls had a wonderful time on the beach and in the water as well as having their own loft area to hang out. The kitchen is so big; all of the girls were able to pitch in and help prepare meals. Our little ones had fun under the house in the sand and on the swings. When the boys returned to pick us up, we were all able to spread out inside and outside the house to eat breakfast and have a little Sunday School lesson on the pier (this was a church sponsored event). The art work is beautiful throughout the house and appears to be created by one of the owners; by looks of the signatures on most of the paintings. Very talented and added such warmth throughout the house. If we make this a yearly event, we hope to be able to stay here again. All the girls kept saying, "When are we coming back!" Thank you for opening your beautiful home to us. It was so much cozier and warm compared to hotel rooms. Being able to stay all together in such a majestic place was the highlight of our trip.

A Perfect Place on the Bay

Guest: Carolyn (Birmingham)
Date of Stay: 07/03/11 Review Submitted: 07/13/11

We had a wonderful stay at your beautiful home on the bay. This house is obviously the envy of other neighbors because no one has the sandy beach on either side of a long covered pier overlooking the bay like Shangri-Log. It was perfect. The pier was a real treat. We caught crab in the traps on the pier at night and my kids loved that experience. (We bought bait in town). The home is so big and it was beautifully decorated. We loved the art work throughout the rooms and the soaring ceiling with the gorgeous log steps. The pictures can't reveal how pretty it really is. My kids loved the Wii and pool table to play on in the evenings. The kitchen was extremely nice. The ice-maker with the crushed ice was a plus. We were able to enjoy the 4th of July with our family without crowds. There were great fireworks all around the bay from all directions so we could just sit on the deck and enjoy other people's firework shows. The attractions in town were very close ( about a 15minute drive) and we did go shopping and eating on other evenings.Papa's pizza in Fairhope was a hit with my kids! We got fresh Gulf shrimp at Moseley's Market( in Fairhope) that was delicious! We recommend getting what you need for meals before you arrive at the house so you can relax and not leave until you want to. Also bring an inner-tube to enjoy the water. My kids loved floating on tubes from the pier to the shore and soaking up the atmosphere slowly as they drifted with the gentle currents. The water was shallow all the way past the pier.( Just watch out for crabs that might get your toes.):) The sunsets were gorgeous from this location on the bay! My family shared a special time there and it was a perfect place to relax and reconnect. We are planning to return to Shangri-Log very soon. Thank You Donnie!

Owner response:Thanks Jim you enjoyed Shangri-log and got the experience we always get as a family when we stay there. Fourth of July is fabulous there too!!!

Wonderful retreat

Guest: Rigleys Mom (Luling, LA)
Date of Stay: 10/06/10 Review Submitted: 10/22/10

Just stayed at this fabulous house with 7 others (4 couples). We all thoroughly enjoyed the house, the decks, and fishing pier. The location was perfect - close enough to Fairhope & Foley for anything needed, but far enough away to think you were in a secluded area. The size of this home makes it ideal for 4 couples, as each bedroom has its own bathroom. The Master bathroom is spectacular, one of the most spacious of any of the many accommodations I have stayed in over the United States. The 4 guys took advantage of the wonderful golf courses nearby morning, while the ladies lounged, read, fished, and/or shopped in historic downtown Fairhope or in nearby Foley. Afternoons were devoted to relaxing, cooking outside, laughing and enjoying the company and the views. It was a perfect getaway for all of us. We have decided we will be going back every year from now on.

Very Nice!

Guest: bryanlb (Covington, LA)
Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 08/04/10

The pictures really don't do the house justice! Its very spacious and accomodating. We stayed for a week in July 2010 with family. It was a very comfortable vacation home for 6 adults and 6 children. We brought our two wave runners and a small boat. The pier was more than sufficient for all three. The kids loved hanging out on the private beach. The boat launch was one block away. The bay is beautiful and filled with crabs and fish. Its the perfect distance from Gulf Shores and Foley action. We spent a day there, but were glad to get back to the serenity of Shangrilog! Negatives: 1. Oil containment boom stretched the entire length of the shore (no oil was seen though!) We just jumped it with the boat and wave runners. It's a good 150 ft. from the beach. 2. It's a little far from the Walmart and grocery stores in Fairhope. (Some people might like that though)
