Caldera, is a historic two story, two-bedroom, two-bath that, likes it’s volcanic namesake, has gone through a period of destruction and rebirth resulting in a completely remodeled, detail-driven home that is both authentic and luxurious. Caldera boasts original restored oak and fir floors, wood doors and double-paned wood windows. Together with exposed beams and crown molding, built-ins and craftsman workmanship throughout, Caldera is a tribute to the mill-based economy of Bend in the 1920s. From the historic front porch enjoy panoramic views of Downtown, including the Deschutes County Library, the Old Bend High building, and the McMenamins Old St. Francis School.
Caldera has two large, private bedroom, on separate floors, with two full baths. Each bedroom has a queen bed. The living room has a queen sleeper sofa to accommodate up to six people. Caldera is on Lava Road at Louisiana, in the heart of Downtown, directly across the street from McMenamins. There is also a large, private fenced yard with a large hot tub. As with all our homes, rental includes access to McMenamins Turkish Soaking Pools and Movie Theatre. Our homes are pet and child friendly, and we stock and clean the homes with environmentally friendly products. High-thread count linens and duvets are provided.
Approaching Caldera you are welcomed by the historic covered porch with bead-board ceiling and clear fir floors, and enter into the large living room. Immediately to the right is the sunroom, a room flooded with natural light enjoying views down Louisiana Ave which include some Bend's most significant historic structures: The Old Bend High, the Reed School (now the Historic Museum), and McMenamin's Old St. Francis School. This room also contains cabinets with a stereo connected to the built-in speaker system, a built-in desk with wireless internet, and is lined with cushioned seating upholstered in a playful fabric reminiscent of 1950s barkcloth. This is the perfect location for an afternoon catnap in the sun or a couple hours with a good book.
In the living room is a convertible sofa, recliner chair, and "lava tube" which includes digital cable and a selection of DVDs. There is also a round oak table with cushioned seating for six, the formal dining area. The 1950s-inspired kitchen reflects the colors of molten lava with red Marmoleum floors, black solid surface counters and appliances, and a shiny black obsidian tile. There are restored vintage solid wood cabinets, a butcher-block bar top with casual seating for four and a view to the living room, as well a gas range, dishwasher and stocked cabinets to accommodate the modern traveler and cook. Behind the kitchen is the downstairs bath as well as the French doors overlooking the private fenced yard and wood patio with hot tub. There is also a laundry room with washer and dryer at the rear of the house. The downstairs bedroom contains a queen bed, luxury bedding and duvets, a large closet and privacy with natural light. Upstairs is the library, a room filled with books and skylights, connecting the master suite and master bath. The master bedroom overlooks Lava Road and on a good day might offer a peak of Mt. Bachelor but on any day affords a panoramic view of downtown. There is luxury bedding and a second television with a DVD player. Beyond Caldera’s many unique features the master bath is arguably one of the highlights of this vacation home. It is tiled completely in vintage-inspired ceramic rosettes with a diamond border, and has skylights in the incredible shower with a custom shower system.
Liked scattered pieces of a time capsule, many artifacts of the decades in which Bend families called Caldera home were unearthed in the remodel. Luckily, Caldera’s owners had the foresight to preserve these details and throughout the home you’ll find artisan murals of these details including puzzle pieces, comic book pages, and rodeo wallpaper. |
