Keywords: Renovated Village House from the 12th century, with modern conveniences( A/C and Wi-Fi), full of comfort and charm in a lively Market town with beach close by.
The house is located in Pierrelatte, a lively market village, located in the Drome Provençal with 12,000 inhabitants. In the Village there are several restaurants and a Grand Rue with all the shops, butchers, bakers, groceries, general stores, and chocolatier and of course the traditional French bar cafes necessary for an enjoyable, easy visit.
There is swimming at a lovely beach that is less than 3 km from the house. The beach has a playground for children and a nice café. You can watch the windsurfers on the opposite side of the beach. Guests can also use the village swimming pool and tennis court. Market day is every Friday and occurs just steps from the front door. Local produce, cheeses, meats, and flowers can be purchased, as well as fresh seafood and herbs. In summer, lavender sweetens the air, and cherry and fig trees produce edible delicacies.
Since everything is within walking distance, you can explore the village at your own pace. The south of France is well known for its pastries and breads; visitors can taste many of them in the local patisserie and enjoy a pastis or a traditional meal at one of the several restaurants and bars in the village. This village even has a cinema, a short walk from the house, which occasionally shows English language movies. Pierrelatte’s central location provides easy access to some of the most historic, scenic, and often-visited sites in southern France.

Why the Owner Chose Orange
We are an American couple who has lived abroad-—and love it! We have family living in Pierrelatte, so when the opportunity arose to purchase and restore this classic 11th century home, we jumped on it.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome
Our little french village is the perfect size as we can walk to everything. Pierrlatte is a Market town and always has various events happening. Our dog likes to walk to the small park at the end of our Rue and we can admire the olive trees and the lovely ancient homes along the way.
Owner's Map of Orange
We have terminal "wanderlust" and enjoy traveling the world. Our permanent home is in Florida but we fell in love with Europe when we lived in Brugge, Belgium for 2 years. We are tax professionals part of the year and spend our time traveling the rest of the year. Our "baby" is our three kilo teacup poodle "Marcel".

Kathy & Larry, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home in Pierrelatte ! This has been the most memorable trip thanks to your generosity and Jim and Yolaine's vast knowledge and good humor. We have not shared stories and laughed so much in a long time. Our four days of "tours" became "adventures with new friends"! They are truly hidden treasures and have enriched our lives beyond explanation. We hope to see you in person so we can share our stories with you. Thank you again.

This was our first trip to Provence and we had a wonderful time. Pierrelatte is a lovely village that is convenient to everywhere you would want to go in western Provence. We loved staying at Kathy and Larry's picturesque stone house which retains the character of its origins, but has all the amenities anyone could want including modern bathrooms and kitchen, air conditioning, and comfortable queen sized beds. The upstairs terrace is charming and we enjoyed relaxing out there. The house's location is central and convenient to stores, cafes, bakeries, and the delightful Friday market. Kathy was prompt and helpful in answering our questions and providing information on day trips that we very much enjoyed. Jim and Yolaine who live in Pierrelatte and manage the house are delightful and informative. We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend this house to anyone looking for accommodations while visiting Provence. Be sure and try the Au Jardin de Tienou restaurant for a delightful experience and delicious meal close to the house.

My sister and I couldn't have had a nicer introduction to France! Our first week was spent in Provence, and having this warm and charming home in Pierrelatte was perfect. The location is ideal for sightseeing in the area, and the village itself is cozy and picturesque. But most of all, this home provides comfort (and the best bed I've ever slept in!) and convenience; and the two nicest people you'd want to meet in the form of Jim and Yolaine as our hosts. Our time in Pierrelatte was magical. We felt safe; we had every modern convenience including English-speaking news channels; we did not feel overwhelmed or unwelcome...quite the contrary. I would highly recommend this rental to any first time traveler to France...and of course to those of us who might be lucky enough to come back! Que Belle! Merci!

Our time in this charming house was a complete pleasure. We enjoyed Pierrelatte--it is a perfect location for exploring all of the Provence and returning in time for dinner on the terrace. The house has everything we needed (and we both are enthusiastic cooks). On Fridays we walked out the door to a bustling market. We certainly plan to return for another stay and recommend this spot wholeheartedly.

The villa has all the modern comforts such as upgraded bathrooms, beautiful furniture, and plenty of storage, while still having the feel of living in a centuries-old, thick stone-walled building. The kitchen is perfect for people who like to cook- amply stocked with everything you need. The bedrooms are on the first and the third floors for maximum privacy, and the trundle couch is remarkably comfortable, too. Items such as plenty of blankets and pillows make it extra cozy. The stairway up to the 3rd floor could be a little tricky for elderly people. There are maps and books to plan out day trips, and if you have a rainy day, there is a great DVD movie collection, and a nice selection of books downstairs. The most peaceful thing to do in the evenings is have some wine and cheese up on the rooftop (3rd floor) balcony. Watch the swallows perform their aerial acrobatics around the church bell tower next door. (You know you are in Europe when you hear real church bells; not the piped-in recordings they use in the U.S.) The villa is a very short walk to the main street area, where there is a grocery store, cafés, and shops. The villa is on a nice quiet cobblestone street, just down from a pretty grassy park-like area next to the big rock cliff where there are concerts and events in the summer. If you turn right out the front door and walk about 100 feet, there is a 12th century(?) Romanesque church which is used for community events now. Jim and Yolaine’s hospitality is above and beyond. Due to a travel quirk, we arrived on the wrong day (Sunday evening when the town is pretty much shut down). They accommodated us, even with no warning, and fed us dinner. The tours they offer are wonderful. My passion is history, so upon my suggestion, Jim gave what felt like a graduate-level history course during the daylong tour of ancient sites and museums. He drove through the beautiful back roads, where along the way we stopped at a fruit stand in the cherry growing area. The nicest restaurant in town, which Jim and Yolaine can point out to you, is amazing. The owners are extremely friendly; they speak Spanish too, if your French isn’t as proficient as your Spanish skills. If you see the ‘salad with little scallops’ on the menu, by all means order it. It’s the best dish I had during our trip around the south of France.

Thank You so much Kathy and Larry for making your beautiful home available to us. We were thrilled to see that it was exactly as described and shown in the pictures. We appreciated the fine bed linens and the fully equipped kitchen (and cookbooks) to practice our French cuisine. Jim was welcoming, friendly and very helpful in orientating us to the lovely Pierrelatte. It was lovely to have a home base to return home to after exploring the delights of Provence. The Friday markets were a highlight and we were surprised at how quickly they are packed up and the streets are cleaned. We thoroughly recommend this well maintained and fully equipped property to anyone who is wanting a home away from home in Provence. P.S. the Ardeche Gorge was a fabulous place to cool off and enjoy a canoe paddle.

Delightful Stay in a French Village

My husband and I wanted to experience life in a French village, and we did--right down to a wedding party and a band marching past our front door on the charming narrow cobblestone street from the old church next door. We especially enjoyed hearing the church bells while having our coffee or wine on the terrace and watching French housewives open their shutters in the morning . We loved walking to market and meeting new friends in the cafes, as well as touring many sites nearby alone and also with the knowledgeable guides suggested by the owners. We made lifelong friendships. We found everyone in the beautiful walled-in village very friendly and eager to help us practice our French. Our accomodations were extremely comfortable, clean and characteristic of a French village house. We enjoyed many meals at restaurants close enough to walk and all of the owners' recommendations for food and/or activities were very accurate. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a delightful stay in a French village.

"I just want to thank you most sincerely for a wonderful, wonderful stay in Reve de Provence. I am actually off sick at home today and had the first opportunity to download some of the videos we had taken and it fills us with gratitude for the most memorable of times. Of our entire stay in Britain and Europe, Reve de Provence gets 10 from 10! It was homey, comfortable, filled with deep and rich history, and memory makers surprised us around every corner and were always only just seconds away from another….."
