My husband and I were blessed with a 16 hr. delayed flight for our honeymoon the year before and got travel vouchers for Hawaiian Airlines. We used to visit Kuai this year. The cottage was perfect. We love the decor and Val and her husband were so helpful. They even had a palm tree with lights and Christmas decor. There was beach equipment to play with like boogie boards, water shoes, snorkling gear, etc. Val's husband teaches surfing which we weren't brave enough to try. We picked up food at Costco and cooked several of our meals and often went out for happy hour. We were there for 10 days. Val let me borrow some cookie sheets and I made gingerbreadmen for the holidays. She brought out extra blankets when we were cold too. I have a bad back and I found this mattress to be good. We would recommend this retreat to any friends that visit Kaui. We also found we prefered the southern part of the island in the winter to the northern section that was very rainy. We found the beach to be close by with shops. This home is located in a nice central location that makes it easy to visit the north or southern sections.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My wife and I arrived on Kauai on New Years Eve. After one of the easiest and friendliest airport/rental car experiences we had ever had, we drove south immediately to find the cottage. It was a relatively short, breathtakingly beautiful drive and the scenery that unfolded all around us immediately transported our souls from the stressful hustle of home into a state of bliss and wonderment. We arrived at the cottage just minutes after passing through the adorable town of Koloa. The cottage exceeded all of our expectations. It was sublime. We had our own private entrance through a side gate into a large, well manicured garden. The main house was within a stones throw but we never heard any of the comings and goings of our hosts. The pictures really don't do the place justice. It is absolutely perfect for a vacationing couple. The french doors at the entry opened up onto a lovely little sitting room, perfect for winding down at the end of a long day at the beach. The kitchen had seating for three and everything you need to cook your own meals and keep your microbrews cold (the local Big Save had Mirror Pond!!!). The bedroom was spacious with an uber comfortable bed and a walk-in closet. The bedroom is the farthest room from the main road which is also some distance from the cottage itself at the front of the property. It was very private and we didn't hear any noise other than the crooning of the roosters in the morning. We slept like babies each night. The place was such an oasis. Quiet, private, modest but classy, it was the furthest thing from loud and obnoxiously opulent resorts in Poipu and elsewhere. A true home abroad that made you feel more like a traveler than a tourist. The town of Koloa is just down the road and Tom Kats was a fun little bar and grille. Great food, friendly locals. I highly recommend the poke bowl and one of Charlie's (a local woodworker and hilarious storyteller) epic yarns. The local beaches were easy to get to and gorgeous, Maha'ulepu was our favorite on the South island. Everything is a short drive away. We even went up to the North side a few times to catch some music at Tahiti Nui. Val was a total sweetheart. Charlie too. Very helpful and informative. Great communication before we got there and during our stay. We invited her over for a few glasses of wine one night and she was a game. Pretty funny too. :) Couldn't thank her enough for helping to make our trip one of the most memorable of our lives! We will be back!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed here for a week on our honeymoon and were pleased. Val and her husband were warm and welcoming, easy to communicate with, and also gave us space, which I really appreciated. The home is cozy, clean, and quiet as promised. There is ample space and a nice layout. We were offered surfing lessons and equipment right away, but without pressure. We were also offered fresh fruit from the trees in the yard- yum! The location is convenient to Poipu Beach, yet with enough distance to make for a quiet, residential stay. There is easy parking and a separate entrance from the main house. We felt free to come and go and do what we liked. The only complaint I had was that the house was a bit musky. I don't blame Val for this, I think it was due to all the rain on the island, and the lack of sun while we were there, which was unusual for that time of year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

It was our pleasure to stay in this house for a week in January of 2011. Very nice place, we got a little grill from the owners and we were able to have a BBQ every night. The owners are extremely nice people, they did everything they could to make our vacation as a pleasant time, they even let us to pick oranges from the trees in their garden! The house is very 5 min away from the beach, but you have to have a car to drive there. It was our best vacation and the best place we stayed in. We will definitely come back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
