This beautifully designed three bedroom house with high ceilings blends quality craftsmanship with a tropical open feeling. The living room, kitchen and dining room all flow to ensure that no one is ever isolated from the heart of the home.
'Hale Haena' was designed with three master suites, one on each level and a fully enclosed private outdoor shower. All three rooms have full private baths. There are three deck lanai's built to evoke an indoor/outdoor feeling while you enjoy the ocean and mountains views.
Beautiful granite countertops in the kitchen and bathroom vanities, custom DeWils kitchen cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, Bosch dishwasher, flat panel TVs, exotic hardwood floors on the second level, and custom slate floors on the lower level and the entire house fully wired with broadband and cable. When you read through books about Kauai, you will find that the majority will focus on the N. shore exactly where this house is located.
It has something for everyone!
Kauai Stories Life on the Garden Island told by Kauai’s people ((Brown, 2012) describes Aloha is what your heart feels like when you share. Aloha is love, It’s the absence of fear. It’s a lifestyle, a way to live.
Aloha is really two words: alo means to be in the presence of: ha is your breath. So aloha means taking the time to be present with someone, to take a deep breath, to play some music, to enjoy your life. We know you will enjoy your stay at Hale Haena!
Schuchter (2006) “Perfect Days on Kauai” book gives you examples of the perfect day in paradise and the real feel of Hawaii. Can you imagine crossing over one lane bridges and having unspoiled coastal beaches with some of the best reefs which are actually footsteps from your doorstep at our home? You can have this at Hale Haena.
Our home is 100 paces to the sand. It is a privately deeded path. You can hear the ocean, feel the sea breezes, and see the ocean from your three lanais. A sensory delight!!
This is the high end district that is cottage homes on the beach. There are houses just a few doors down that rent for thousands a night.
The beach in front of Hale Haena is sandy but there is coral which is great for snorkeling (see the satellite picture).
Every day will be different on the beach according to the tide and time of the year.
All the beaches on the north shore have their own personalities. Visit them all.
You have all the amenities you will need. Enjoy the manicured landscaped yard with local Hawaiian flowers that are beautiful to see and very fragrant. The kitchen is well stocked and open to the living area.
The views are spectacular! From one lanai you can see the ocean on the east horizon and if you turn to the west you will see the beautiful mountain views. The hedges in the back give you privacy to enjoy dinner on the lanai. The lanai off the BR upstairs you can sip a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
What more could you ask for? Location?
Location, Location, Location-
Kauai, 23 Themed Itineraries Lonely Planet 2009 informs the reader that the best scenic drive is “to the end of the road.” That is where we are. You can explore wet caves or literally at the end of the road as far as you can go- Ke’e Beach (the ultimate sun perch) and snorkeling. Don’t forget to bring your hiking shoes because just above Ke’e Beach is the start of the a trail that will take you to the 100 foot Hanakapi’ai Falls, Napali Coast- Kalalau Trail.
From our house you can walk or drive to the famous Tunnels beach. The north shore has the best snorkeling, hiking, most authentic Hawaiian gardens (Limahuli Gardens), the best feel of old Hawaii, where the first settlers came. Guided and self-guided tours for Hawaii history at its best. This is just minutes from Hale Haena a must see to learn about historic Hawaii.
You can also go sea cave exploring just minutes from the house.
Sotheby’s described our home when it was on the market as…
'Hale Haena' is a newly remodeled 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath tropical retreat steps from a golden sand beach in the heart of Haena. The smart, elegant home is an ideal setting to enjoy casual island living and take advantage of Kauai's year-round temperate climate and indoor-out lifestyle.
The property features all of the amenities one would expect in new construction, set against a lush verdant backdrop. Some of the interior finishes in this great blend of natural beauty and modern comfort include hardwood and slate floors, granite counters, stainless steel appliances (gas stove), recessed lighting and vaulted ceilings. The home's southern exposure and generous array of large windows and sliding doors allow air and light to flow throughout. Great views of the mountains and ocean abound from the expansive Ipe lanais. From the property, there is deeded beach access via a short path to the sands of Ku'au Beach. You are also minutes from some of Kauai's legendary North Shore destinations including the Makua (Tunnels), Ke'e and Lumahai Beaches, the Na Pali Coast Trail and Hanalei Town.
Hale Haena is a sensory delight where you are embraced by the gentle trade winds, enchanted by the fragrant flora, lulled to sleep by the waves running over the outer reefs and thrilled by the colors of the rising and setting sun.
FYI… Make sure you rent from someone who has a TVR permit and from a reputable company (licensed management company).
We are one of only a few of licensed/permitted and established vacation rentals in Haena that pay taxes to the state of Hawaii. Our TVR permit is proudly displayed in our window as mandated and on our web sites. Others do not have the TVR permit or someone on island managing their home, but will tell you they do. Many are renting w/o complying with these laws and “you” maybe at risk if they are discovered with extremely large fines, etc.
Read Hawaii Act 326 which became law effective July 1, 2012. It requires operators of transient accommodations (vacation rentals) to do the following:
• Designate a local contact residing on the same island as the transient accommodation
• Provide the local contact’s contact information to any entity with covenants, bylaws, or administrative provisions operational with respect to the property on which the transient accommodations exists (an association of owners).
• Include the local contact’s name and phone number in any contract or written rental agreement.
• Provide on a website or by online link and display in all advertisements and solicitations on websites the registration identification number issued under HRS 237 D-4. (The TAT license number and GET).

Hale Haena is everything that is advertised and more. It is truly 30 seconds to the sand and I loved the ocean and mountain views. The sunrises and sunsets were amazing. The house is beautiful and very clean. The grounds are lovely with many Hawaiian flowers and trees. Everything was close on the N. Shore. We felt so good about our decision to rent from an ethical owner who is licensed and permitted for vacation rentals. I will tell all my friends and family about Hale Haena and what a wonderful place to stay! We had a beautiful 8days and 7 nights at Hale Haena. It felt like our own private island. People were scarce so the beaches were our own private playground. Woke up everyday to the most breathtaking views of mountains. Everything we wanted to do like hike the Kahahuli trail, snorkel at tunnels and Ke'e Beach, horseback riding, and just enjoying some quality family time was on the north side of the island. Loved Ching's Marketplace. Everything was a few minutes drive away, short bike ride, or brisk walk down the road. Hale Haena had the perfect amount of amenities for a family of 6 with so much room to spare. At first we walked in and seen stairs and no airconditioning- so we freaked out. But after a day of rest from jet lag and opening up all the windows, our worries drifted away. We were sad to leave our home away from home, and hope to return as soon as we can. Thank you for letting us enjoy your little slice of paradise. My husband and I stayed at Hale Haena in October and loved everyhing about the place. The location, on the North Shore was convenient to almost everything we wanted to see and do. The proximity to the lovely beach was truly 30 seconds or less. The house is spacious, well- equipped. And we well cherish our time on the lanai with views of both the mountains and the coast.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: We go the extra steps necessary to ensure all our guests enjoy their stay at Hale Haena. We listen to our guests and add things to the house that they request. We are proud that many have returned year after year.

Our family had wonderful time staying at Haena house. The house and location exceeded our expectations. The moment we arrived and walked in we felt like we were at home. The house is well equiped with everything you may need and is decorated beautifully. We enjoyed Bbqing, relaxing on the Lanai and our kids loved how close we were to the beach. You truly are 30 seconds from the waves and hanging out on what seems like your own private beach. This north shore location is great for just hanging out, snorkling at tunnels, horseback riding, visiting Hanalei, Princeville or hiking Na Pali coast. Everything is within a few miles of the house. We would highly recommend this vacation property for enjoying yourself in beautiful Kauai. We look forward to returning to Haena house in the future and creating more family memories.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: In all our vacations and gift trips, we fell in love with Kauai and Haena. I can see God’s beautiful handywork in this place. It is home. Welcome to our home! Hale Haena (the house of Haena)! We are similar to you and your family- throughout the years we stayed in many vacation homes like you are inquiring about. I did not consider at the time how much meaning or significance the homes we stayed in and what they may have meant to the owners, until I owned my own vacation home. Many times I thought and assumed the people who owned the homes were just wealthy individuals. I had no idea how they may have sacrificed for their dream. That is us. We have sacrificed and love our Hale Haena. I have made our home comfortable for your enjoyment as well. Please do not hesitate to let us know what we can do or add to make Hale Haena even more enjoyable now or hopefully for your next stay and for future guests. Have fun, respect Kauai and her wonders, and may God touch you and bless you while you are here and may you feel a longing to spend time seeking God while you are surrounding by His beauty.
Why the Owner Chose Haena:
Location, Location, Location-
Kauai, 23 Themed Itineraries Lonely Planet 2009 informs the reader that the best scenic drive is “to the end of the road.” That is where our home, Hale Haena is.
The ocean coral reef and water is steps from the house are the best on the island. Look at the satellite maps of this area to see the large coral reef.
We are beyond the last one lane bridge in the middle of paradise, the real feel of old Hawaii!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The flora of the island is best here. The north shore has the best snorkeling, hiking, most authentic Hawaiian gardens (Limahuli Gardens), the best feel of old Hawaii, where the first settlers came. From our house you can drive 3.5 minutes or walk to the famous Tunnels beach or 8 minutes to hiking above Ke’e beach (Kalalau trail).
You will probably spot monk seals at Ke’e beach and the views of the Napali Coast are the best (remember the road ends here).
Look up sites like Queens Bath, Anini Beach, Tunnels Beach, Ke’e Beach, Hideaway Beach, Na Pali Coast Kayaking, Limahuli Tropical Gardens, Kilauea Lighthouse, Kalalua Trail, Okolehao Trail and others for endless hiking, Hanalei Wildlife Refuge, Maniniholo Dry Cave, Waikapale’e Wet Cave, Princeville Golf Course, Mediterranean Gourmet Restaurant next door, Princeville Ranch horseback, zip-line, and kayak tours and so much more on the North Shore.
We are close to paddle surfing, Snuba, whale watching, the best helicopter tours, waterfall touring, sugar cane canal water tubing, deep sea fishing?
