This is a beautiful Florida style home on the nicest lot in the Dunes, a quiet country club community located conveniently near the causeway for easy access on and off the island. We have extensive lake frontage facing west over conservation land to spectacular sunsets and fascinating wildlife. Egrets, herons, and woodstorks are frequent guests on our lawn, osprey and an occasional bald eagle soar overhead, and fish jump in the lake. Beaches are a short bike ride away.
Multi-car or boat parking occupies the ground level, where we also have multi-speed bikes available to guests. The first floor has 2 bedrooms with bathrooms, covered decks on both sides, and a large great room with dining area, wet bar, and home entertainment center. It opens onto a very large west facing lanai with additional dining area that overlooks the pool, with the lake and the nature preserve beyond. The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped with side-by-side refrigerator with ice maker and filtered water, dishwasher, disposal, ceramic top stove, microwave, blender, bread maker, food processor, coffeemaker, service for 10, corian counters, pantry closet, and every kind of utensil imaginable. There is a dining alcove seating four in the kitchen which overlooks the lake. The sink has an additional top of the line Nikken water filter installed. A spacious laundry room with washer, dryer, utility sink, and additional storage is on the first floor.
The second floor contains the private, spacious master bedroom suite with cathedral ceilings, king size bed, walk-in closet, sitting area, large screen TV with CD/DVD player, and a huge bathroom with separate shower and two-person jacuzzi hot tub. A large private balcony overlooks the lake and pool.
The yard is well-landscaped with citrus in season. The pool is heated with a new pool deck and an outdoor shower. There is additional poolside furniture and a large 3 burner gas grill.
This is a lived-in private home that is fully furnished and equipped in a very well-maintained community on a quite 2 mile long loop road. The country club clubhouse, with an excellent 18 hole challenging course and complete practice facility as well as 8 Hartru tennis courts is just around the corner. Tee times, court times, clinics, and private instruction are readily available. The location is special with decks and screened lanai which overlook a large backyard and heated pool leading down to a lake teeming with fish and bird life and beyond that a nature preserve. The sunsets are spectacular, the evenings are peaceful and quiet.

Year Purchased: 2003
We bought our house in 2003 with the aim of making it our vacation place for now and our winter home once we retire. We've gradually been upgrading it since--completely refurnished when we bought it, new landscaping after Hurricane Charley, a new metal roof, updated decks, new appliances, remodeled kitchen, artwork.
Why the Owner Chose The Dunes
Sanibel combines Florida weather with a respect for nature, wildlife, and the environment not found in most of overdeveloped south Florida. No high rises or highways. Because it's an island reachable by a causeway but without any through traffic, it has some of that island atmosphere of calm and serenity without being too sleepy and isolated. We tend to settle in and don't feel the need to go off-island very often.
The Unique Benefits of this Florida Style House
We often see more nature and wildlife looking out at the pond in our backyard than we do at the nature preserve. The loop road we live on is great for an exercise lap by foot and easily connects to the bike paths offering safe biking all over Sanibel. The sunsets are spectacular from our lanai and at night with the sliders open from the master bedroom, all we hear are bird calls and fish jumping.
