My husband and I and our friends have just spent a wonderful 10 days here at this beautiful, relaxing house! We saw Howler monkeys everyday and white faced monkeys also! The pictures of the location totally due it justice! The house is beautiful inside and the grounds outside are also beautiful and well looked after by Jose and his wife! They were wonderful and cooked us a wonderful lobster supper one evening and fish another! Just a note that the beach front is beautiful, but not so much a sandy beach for swimming, but there are lots to be found! It is wonderful for walking but be sure to bring your water shoes! Jenny who manages everything for you when you arrive was absolutely wonderful also. She made you feel like part of her family with her wonderful smiling and cheerful attitude. The house is located in Cabuya, a very small town but the restaurants are wonderful. Jenny's restaurant - Cafe Coyote has absolutely amazing food! Jenny also will help you to arrange anything you need during your stay such as getting a rental car, or renting a quad to arranging for day trips or horseback riding, she will arrange all for you. This is very helpful if you do not know alot of spanish! We also ate at the Cabuya Bakery and Cafe! This is a must also if you are in Cabuya, the food is excellent and the desserts are just amazing! We did day trips over to Montezuma and also to Malpais. The surfing if you like to surf is wonderful in Malpais and they also have a wonderful restaurant called The Bakery! But life is busier in these two locations, so it was always wonderful to come back to Cabuya at the end of the day as it is so quiet and relaxing and all the people are very friendly and helpful. You will want to rent a car so that you can get around to the different locations, but be prepared for the bumps! But the sights while travelling are just beautiful! You totally get a real feel for Costa Rican life when staying in Cabuya. We walked around town the entire week and you feel totally at ease and safe! We also did horseback riding with Marvin - El Pinto Expeditions. He was wonderful and his horses are great and well looked after, definately a must! We would definatly recommend this beautiful house as it is totally an amazing place to stay and RELAX! We will definately be returning!!! Thanks so much for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful piece of Heaven! Joanna and Randy Barker, Paris, Ontario Canada

This morning my husband and I and another couple arrived home after spending 10 days in beautiful Cabuya, Costa Rica. All four of us have travelled to all-inclusive resorts before and were not sure what to expect from a rental home. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the house and it was exactly like the pictures online and very clean and well appointed. Jenny the property manager was so helpful from the first moment we met her and continued to be for our entire vacation. She made us feel like part of her Costa Rican family. We visited her cafe de coyota many times for smoothies and supper. The morning we left she made us a wonderful breakfast before her husband transported us to the airport. Jose the groundskeeper was also great to us. When the air conditioner quit upstairs he immediately came over and fixed it. He also cooked lobster and fish for us that he caught in the ocean. Cabuya is a quiet little town where you can become part of the Costa Rican lifestyle very quickly. For half of our stay the monkeys visited us twice a day and of course the two little dogs becames our "pups" for the entire vacation. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed. Doug & Elaine Poyntz Ontario Canada

We are 2 couples who are in the process of planning our third trip back to this house. (which should say it all) What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. The house feels like home to us, it is very accommodating for 2 couples, has what you need for doing your own cooking etc., The beach is rocky but is no problem with water shoes. We usually spend a couple of hours a day in the extremely warm water when the tide is high. Walk out your door and into the water, life does not get much better than this. At low tide you can walk to cemetary island and swim from there. Jose and his family live net door and take care of the property. The property is kept very clean, well raked, watered etc., You will need to go fishing with Jose and have his wife Flori cook your catch. They are very helpful as is Jenny who is the go to person for the keys etc., Jenny runs the Coyote Cafe and makes really good pizza. She will help you with anything you need - she also goes the extra mile to make sure that all is well. Dealing with Neil the owner is very easy and he is most helpful. We would recommend having a vehicle but there is a bus service to Montezuma. However, we did most of our grocery shopping in Cobano. (don't know about taking a bus there) The bakery in Cabuya is fabulous and there are sodas that serve good food for resonable prices. Howler monkeys visit nearly every day, iguanas bask in the sunny yard where there is plenty of seating and/or lounging for reading, visiting or just plain old relaxing. We would not hesitate to recommend this house to friends or family. We are looking forward to spending a month there next year. Vancouver Island British Columbia Canada

What a fabulous location and house. We had such a great time! Definitely needed a 4-wheel drive to get around though. Jenny, the property manager, was so helpful and fun! Jose and his family were welcoming and always available to make our stay go smoothly. We love this place!

16 days went by way too fast! I love this little house! Home away from home. Great location on the beach and in the jungle! Our neighbors and caretakers of the land Jose, Flori, and Gustavo were amazing! They took us fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, to waterfalls, to explore the surrounding towns, and had bonfires on the beach almost every night. Little Carlos and Melissa taught us a little Spanish. I wish we were there again with our new friends that we miss so much! It was nice to be away from the constant craziness of Montezuma's tourist trap. Jim next door at the Howler Monkey Hotel let us rent his ATV's at a great price where Montezuma's ATV rentals were a rip off! We also got ripped off by Montezuma Expeditions for $200 for a supposed "round-trip tour" with fruit and refreshments of Arenal but they failed to mention until we got there that it was a one way drop off in Arenal and we would have to find our own tour, accommodation, food, and would have to pay another $200 just to get back. The owner of the business was rude and refused to refund any of our money with this misunderstanding. They are so corrupt, the website won't even let you leave a review. So we went through a local we trusted Gustavo. Great tour guide and friend to be trusted. Jose, Flori, and Gustavo did a wonderful job and made us feel right at home. Will definitely go back!

We spent a month in this house last summer and the house was perfect for us. We are a family of four with two young kids, and stayed in Cabuya on a working vacation. The air-con in both bedrooms worked well, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was modern and well stocked with all the tools we needed to cook regularly. The living room is upstairs as part of the master suite, and it was very comfortable. We loved the views from the upstairs deck and the wi-fi worked great out there. The property manager was on top of everything, and the few times that we needed minor maintenance, she was on it. She even hired a new nanny for us when the original nanny she had arranged fell through (through no fault of hers) just before we arrived. We loved watching the monkeys swinging through our garden, top count was about 40. My kids enjoyed playing in the nearby river, and we often used the pool at the Celaje Hotel after dining there. We felt very safe, even when hubby was gone for a week on a business trip. A few things to know: 1) Cabuya is a VERY small town. It got a little quiet for us over a month, and we made fairly frequent trips to Montezuma to go out to dinner, where there are some world-class restaurants. 2) There wasn't a playground in town for our young kids to play in. 3) The roads are completely unpaved in much of the southern Nicoya Peninsula, and you need a 4-wheel drive in the summer. The roads got progressively worse during the rainy season. Although Cabuya is only 7km from Montezuma, the trip takes about 25 minutes each way, and that's only when you start to dodge the potholes really well. 4) We had to evict small and medium sized crabs from the house on a daily basis. We also had regular ants in the kitchen. This is just part of living in the area, not a negative on the house. 5) In the summer there are amazing electrical storms in the early evenings, though not as frequently as expected. When the storms are bad the local authorities take down the power grid to protect it, so a few times we had no power for 1-2 hours, which was mostly fun and adventurous. The house is equipped with flashlights and small battery-powered lamps. If it happens during dinner time, the electric stove and microwave will be useless, but there is a grill right out front. 6) The beach is very rocky and has pretty extreme tides. It was not as big a hit with our kids as we had hoped, but they loved the outdoor shower. We were so sad to leave our "summer home"!

My wife and I along with another couple had a great week at this beautiful home. I can easily say that this was one of the best vacations we have ever been on. The house is absolutely perfect, we truly felt like we were at a home away from home. It was great to be able to come back to the house after a long day at the beach to such great amenities. 1st of all, Costa Rica is warm and humid. The air-conditioners worked wonderful and kept the house cool. If you have a laptop or iphone the internet worked well. The kitchen was fully stocked so 1 night we went to the grocery store and cooked dinner in. (The Tuna and Mahi Mahi we caught with Jose that day). 2 flat panel TV’s with cable, we didn’t watch them too much, but most shows are in English (Spanish subtitles). The house is right on the water and makes for a great backdrop for pictures at sunset. The property managers, Jose and Flori were fanstastic! They worked so hard to be sure everything was perfect for our stay. We had a great time practicing our Spanish and their English with their 2 little children. What a great family! Bottom Line the house was PERFECT!! Cabuya is in a great location on the peninsula. 7km from the lively town of Montezuma, 7km from “Central America’s most beautiful beaches” in Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. Down the road from the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, and walking distance to the Rainsong Sanctuary (where you can go and interact with monkeys). I would recommend renting a car (the owner helped out a ton) and exploring the entire area. So many beautiful areas full of some of the nicest people in the world. Thank you!! AD from Colorado

We stayed at this magnificent location the first week of June, 2010. We were kind of worried about the time of year--beginning of rainy season, but only had one full day of rain. It just so happened this was our "down day," so it worked out fine. I can't add much to the rave reviews already posted, just want to verify that this was indeed a home away from home. The howlers made an appearance in the mornings for our first 3 days, but we didn't see them, although we heard them, after the rain. They like to be vocal every time a motor bike or 4-wheeler goes by so you can tell where they are all day! The house was very well outfitted, and the water indeed drinkable. There are lots of things to do from this location, though you'll be tempted to just hang out and imagine living in this spot. My husband and friend went fishing with Jose two mornings during our week-long stay, and caught tuna, jack cravelle, mackerel, more tuna, and needlefish(not for eating). Jose did an excellent job of preparing our tuna on the grill, and we had it by candlelight, as the power went out that night. 'Twas fine. Isla Tortuga is not to be missed--some of the best money spent, and reasonable at that. It was great to come 'home' after our adventures. Jenny, the property manager, was very helpful, personalble, and a great cook. Thank you Neil for opening your home to travelers!

Recently my wife Julie and I had the pleasure of staying at this beuatiful home which is located in one of the most tranquil settings I've had the pleasure of experiencing. The moment we arrived we felt instantly relaxed and at home. The house is great with all the modern ammenities that you would expect at a 4 start hotel. The a/c worked great in every room, kitchen is spacious and very well appointed and the added benefit of having high speed interenet with wifi was fantastic. It gave us the ability to research the area while we relaxed on the patio. We were able to experince nature to the fullest. Every afternoon a group of monkeys would make there way through the trees eating the tamarindos and giving us some afternoon entertainment. We had one of the best vacations of our life and can't wait to go back again next year. If you are looking for a place to relax this home has it all.

business Beautiful Beach Front Rental http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p167806 401-309-9757 Montezuma Puntarenas Rating 5 out of 5 5 Dream holiday YukonFamily Whitehorse, Yukon Canada Review Submitted: March 17, 2010 Date of Stay: February 2010 My husband, myself and our three year old son stayed for three amazing weeks. It was a get-away-from-it-all, relaxing holiday. It was also a very kid-friendly experience. the house was exactly as it was pictured. Cabuya is a community well positioned for travel to Mal Pais, Cabo Blanca and Montezuma, but we found it best to stay right in Cabuya. The beach in front of the house was rocky and shallow and provided lots of opportunity to explore tidal pools (bring your reef shoes). There are sandy beaches close by too, including a cool freshwater pool - river in the rainy season, at Los Cedros that is a must visit. Of note, you can't buy cervezas in Cabuya, so stop by Montezuma on the way. Also, you really need a vehicle to get the most out of any extended stay. The house was definately designed as a vacation (or retirement?)home, not a rental. Beautiful, tastefully decorated, and it had everything we needed to be comfortable and then some. We thought that we would have to drink bottled water on the trip, but had no issues whatsoever drinking right from the tap. And the family of howler monkeys that visits the property around dinner time very night provided entertainment on a daily basis. They can keep you up at night sometimes... Jose and Flori, the couple that maintain the property and their two beautiful and sweet children took great care of us. Flori made wonderful meals with the fish that we caught fishing with Jose. Mahi mahi, tuna, red snapper and more. The fishing was fantastic and should not be missed. The food was incredible at El Coyote Cafe - fresh, simple ingredients prepared by the extremely talented Jenny made for an exceptional meal. I'm still dreaming of her cooking! Our first night there was magical - lightning across the water, a bonfire on the beach. Jose and family, my family, and the family next door hanging out roasting marshmellows over the fire. My husband played guitar and sang. Canopy of stars overhead. Perfection! Review Submitted: January 10, 2010 Date of Stay: December 2009 On our 3rd trip to Costa Rica, my husband and I decided that we wanted to stay in a non- touristy place where we could experience the pura vida lifestyle that Costa Rica is famous for. The Nicoya Penninsula is also a "Blue Zone" area where many people have a long life expectancy. We chose the small fishing town of Cabuya to expierence this unique lifestyle. We rented this house for 2 weeks over the Christmas and New Years holiday. We brought our college age kids along for part of the time and the house worked perfectly for our family. This house is very modern by Costa Rican standards. It was clean, well supplied, and its location on the beach was beautiful. The tico family living with 2 little kids next to this house was delightful. Jose makes his living as a fisherman and took our kids on a great fishing trip where they caught a large mahi mahi. Jose also caught us some lobsters which is wife cooked for us for dinner. We ate fresh grilled mahi mahi for several nights and also loved the fresh ceviche they made for us. Jose charges for his fishing services but this is how he makes his living. Cabuya is close to many attractions: Cabo Blanco National Park, Cabuya island, a 2 hour walk to Mal Pais, and bus ride or walk to the vibrant town of Montezuma. We did not rent a car so we walked alot, rode the local buses, and took taxis. Monkeys travel through the trees by the house and 2 little dogs adopted us while we were there. The sunrise is stunning. Cabuya has a river where one can swim in cool water which feels great in the heat of the day. It also has a famous fig tree which is huge and beautiful. Cabuya has nice local restrauants including a popular bakery, 2 small grocery stores, a small bookstore, and friendly people. We feel we really experienced the Costa Rican lifestyle that makes Costa Rica a special place. Things to bring: 1. Water shoes. The beach is rocky. You can walk long distances at low tide and swim at high tide. You can also walk to sandy beaches. 2. Binoculars to view the wild life. 3. Small lap top: the wifi at the house worked great. If you have Magic Jack you can call the US for free with a great connection. 4. Money. We would recommend bringing cash (dollars or colones) with you. The ATM in Montezuma does not reliably work. The closest bank is in Cobano. 4. A positive attitude and ope

*Good point about the location The villa is right on the beach The villa is set in a sizeable plot so it feels quite private. Cabuya is very tranquil. It is close by car to Montezuma which is buzzing and has many activities Cabuya has several good restaurants and bars, a bakery, and 2 supermarkets which is essential if you are self-catering. It is very near to the Cabo Blanco National Park which is stunning. Good white sandy beaches are not too far away and one is within walking distance. * Bad points The beach in front of the villa is shingle and jagged rocks. Not great for swimming except at high tide. In the rainy season, with all the mud from the rivers, the sea in front of the villa is rather murky and brown. The beaches along this part of the peninsula can have bad rip currents and are not great for swimming especially for children. You really need to hire a car if you want to make the most fo this area. *Good points about the villa It's very clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. Masssive kitchen/diner. It's very well equipped with all mod cons: aircon, cable TV, wireless internet, phone, microwave etc. It's got 2 huge comfortable double beds (and sofa bed) The caretaker (Jose) is very helpful and close on hand to fix any problems. *Bad ponts It could be constucted to a higher standard and seems to need constant maintenance from poor old Jose. There is a half built grey block constuction right next to the villa with numerous "Clausurado" ("closed" ie built without authorisation) signs slapped on it. This spoils this aesthetically pleasing site. We had no hot water for the first 3 days because the boiler had burnt out. Good old Jose fixed it though. The upstairs shower leaks and wets the downstairs bedroom wall. If you have the aircon on at night upstairs in the master bedroom, people downstairs can't sleep because it's too noisy. The ceiling fans which could relieve this problem are noisy and ineffective. There is no hot water in the kitchen. The Kitchen sink was blocked most of the time we were there so we had to buy a washing up bowl and empty the water outside. (We had had enough of asking poor overworked Jose for help so we just put up with this minor inconvenience) The aircon hot air outlet from next door blows across the downstairs terrace. At the end of the day we had the best holiday and the good points far outweighed the bad ones.

ating 5 out of 5 5 My Favorite Place in Costa Rica I stayed at the house for 3 nights with my family and it was truly one of my favorite places in Costa Rica. I've been going to Costa Rica for almost 5 years. We had a large pack of howler monkeys that would visit us every sunset. My husband and I were looking for a place, close to beautiful beaches where we could relax and enjoy our first getaway from our 2 1/2 year old twins and we definetly found it! We became friends with the groundskeeper who took us on a fishing tour and prepared us dinner right on the patio. MalPais and Montezuma are only short drives away. All the amenities of the house made it extremely comfortable (especially the king mattresses) and being in such a small village, we forgot about all the "problems" of the outside world. (Not having cable was actually a plus :)! Many thanks, Darlene and Scott

I stayed in Feb 09 The airconditioning only cooled the upstairs, you sweat downstairs. It also caused the electric to go out. The beach was rocks not sand and only available at high tide. It's 200 yards further to the water at low tide, across rocks. The pool was empty while we were there. The cable was out. We couldn't get the washing machine to work. The doors had no regular knobs on them and kept locking us out. They also had a cleaning fee on top of the rent before you move in, that was not mentioned when we booked the house. Keep looking we found better places for half the price in the same area!!!!

Owner response: In response to this review from Fish Man. I am very sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. We normally get rave reviews from our guests and have been renting the home for 3 years without any negative reviews. In regards to some of the issues you experienced I'd like you to know that we have evaluated the problems you mentioned and have made all the neccesary improvements and maintenance to prevent these problems from occuring for future guests. The A/C has been repaired since your visit and we have installed another central A/C unit on the first floor. Now the whole house is cooled equally on both floors. In regards to the electrical problems you experienced the house is in a small beach community and the power supply sometimes cannot handle running all the lights, a/c, etc in the house at once. However, at this time we have also updated all the wiring from the pole to the house and the junction box since you brought this matter to our attention...Honestly, this has never been a problem in the past. The door does self lock, but also has a switch on the lock to prevent it from doing this. So it can be operated either way. We prefer the self lock mechanism so our guests can always feel secure and not have to worry about the safety of their valuables. This is no different than any hotel room you stay in. We tell all our guests to bring the keys with you at all times. However, we do have spare keys even if you happen to lock yourself out and are available at the El Coyote where you checked in. The beach is very beautiful but is rocky, but dosen't take away from the beauty. The pictures speak for themselves. There are many popular sandy beachs great for swimming and sun bathing within walking distance from the home. I have looked at many comparable rental homes in the area and have no doubt that my rental home is the best rental in the area especially when it comes to the location, ammenities, and value. The home is very clean, no bugs and is brand new construction. We have a groundkeeper who maintains the yard and surrondings on a daily basis. There is a small cleaning fee, which I always mention in my pricing. This is common with all rental homes in the area. We strive to keep our prices fair and very reasonable. We hope in the future you will gives us another chance to meet your needs. We appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

5 out of 5 5 Relaxing Getaway Darlene64 Rutland, VT, USA Review Submitted: April 21, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009 My husband and I were looking for a place, close to beautiful beaches where we could relax and enjoy our first getaway from our 2 1/2 year old twins and we definitely found it! We became friends with the grounds keeper who took us on a fishing tour and prepared us dinner right on the patio. Mal Pais and Montezuma are only short drives away. All the amenities of the house made it extremely comfortable (especially the king mattresses) and being in such a small village, we forgot about all the "problems" of the outside world. (Not having cable was actually a plus :)! Many thanks, Darlene and Scott Recommended for: Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

In my opinion there are two basic kinds of vacationers. There are the typical tourists who want to fight for beach chairs on crowded beaches covered with pasty fat men scantily clad in speedos while being served crappy drinks with umbrellas, or, There are the people who want something special. Something beautiful, something unique. And most of all, not your typical, tourist-ridden same old same old crap. So with that said, here is why I would recommend this rental house. I loved the quiet, secluded location just outside Montezuma, one of the most delightful and interesting towns I had ever been too. Not to mention the local spots and restaurants in and around Cabuya, some within walking distance that are truly authentic and delicious. Only a short drive down the road to beautiful sandy beaches with water clearer than anything I had ever seen. But best of all they were small and not crowded, some days having them almost completely all to yourself. The house itself is also right on the beach, with a breathtaking view from the back porch. I have never been to a resort where I watched the sunset as howler monkeys passed by just above your head. The house is also comfortable and nicely furnished. Oh, and how often do you have the caretaker and his adorable family go fishing for you every day and bring back lobster and fish and cook it for you on the beach? I have never eaten anything so fresh and delicious. I love a fancy seafood dinner, but nothing beats fish less than an hour out of the water prepared and grilled right before your eyes. I could go on but the bottom line is if you want to enjoy nature, beauty, peace and quiet, beaches from heaven, and meeting other interesting travelers who have the same appreciation and respect for the local laid-back lifestyle, then this is for you.

Perfect place to stay if your looking for a beautiful, private place to relax, minutes away from a fun, and a great central location close to Montezuma and only 20 minutes from Mal Pais. Great for sightseeing, beach lovers, surfers and any one looking for peace and tranquility. The renter was very helpful, making himself accessible prior to and during the trip. The price of this rental is well worth the money and the pictures accurately show just how wonderful and unique the house really is!! This is my second time staying at this house and I plan on returning next year as well!
