This house is in need of some major updates. There were more then a few water stains on the ceilings, linens were old and worn and the kitchen was lacking some basic supplies (colanders, wine glasses, more then 4 bowls). It is an amazing house w/ a great layout on a gorgeous piece of land but it unfortunately hasn't been kept up as it should have been. There were also no instructions on how to do anything or find anything. If you didn't open the closet doors, it was clean. The cleaning crew has at least been doing a great job...

I recently stayed at this property early in January and wanted to post a positive review. We had two major snowstorms and the property was prompty plowed, and the house was spotless when we arrived, including the hot tub. The house is probably about 15 years old by my estimate and is not a brand new property. There are some wear marks on the carpet, but it was clean and my friends and I felt very comfortable there. The owner took personal care to make sure the property was promptly plowed so that even the vehicles in our group without 4 wheel drive were able to access the property. This house is a unique rental in the area as it is secluded yet still very close to the Stratton Base lodge. I would definitely reccomend it and hope to be back again in the years to come.

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Not Suitable for Family

I was on VRBO website to book for an upcoming vacation, when I ran across this listing again. I really must agree with the first review that gave this property a low rating. Our family of four (my husband, myself and two children under 6) with family dog, rented this property for a weekend at the end of summer in 2009. The place was NOT suitable. When we opened the front door, the moldy smell was overwhelming, the furniture and rugs had stains, and the bedrooms were in poor condition. The bathrooms were not clean and the garage was full of trash and work materials. The kitchen and dining space were the only place that was clean. The doors to the decks were extremely difficult to close due to the rot. After weighing our options, the smell was just too overpowering, we decided the place just wasn't appropriate to stay, and tried to contact the owner. He did not return our calls or emails. We ended up driving around southern Vermont searching for a place that could accomodate a family with a pet. Over the next four weeks, the owner never returned any of my calls or emails. We had hoped we were dealing with a honest person when we rented the place since he knew I had small children and our family was really looking forward to this vacation. We decided to put the experience behind us and just be more careful in the future. But, it does annoy us tremendously that we lost so much hard earned money on that weekend. Due to the owners refusal to be professional or even courteous enough to reply, I would recommend staying away from this place. Since this experience we have successfully rented from another VRBO owner, without a single complaint.

This house is a neat, comfy, clean and a warm place to stay. we were here in march earlier this year, The owner did return our call, it snowed bad that week, and he even called the tow truck to get our cars out. One thing for everyone to know, if it snows, you only come here in an SUV 4x4. no way to get uphill with a passenger vehicle one axle drive. But this is mountains, and we dont complain. They had lugs for fireplace, the garage had a spot for one car, and other stuff in it was firewood, canoe, skis and so on nothing to complain about. Dors were totally lockable. Nice deck on the back of the house with a mountain view. Comfy and very easy to use kitchen. We are looking to come back here again for thanksgiving weekend :) hope everything works out, we dont even want to look for another place. abd just for arguments sake to the previous review, we were also a group of 15 ppl, late 20s early 30s. we did party as well, but left the place neat and clean.

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Low quality house, poor management

Check in was supposed to be anytime after 3 but we could not check in until after 4 due to housecleaning. There were no directions on how to use the TV. There were no instructions for the garbage and recycling. The furnace would not start. I tried to call the owner multiple times but his voice mail was constantly filled. I also called the numbers he left for a local "caretaker" however they never returned my call. The last day and a half we had no hot water and again I could not reach anyone to take care of the problem. The house itself was not clean with multiple stains on the carpet, and the couches smelled musty. The front and basement doors could not be locked. In the description of the house it lists a garage. The garage was full of household refuse rendering it useless. The owner also accused my party of "trashing" his house and thought of withholding my security deposit. He had no proof that my party was responsible. It took me 6 weeks of constant emails and voicemails to his office and cell phone before he refunded money. Overall, I would never recommend this property.

Owner response:This was a group that was supposed to be a family, but was a group in their late 20s that just trashed the house. Bottles and bottles of alcohol, and broken lawn furniture was just the beginning. I would not recommend renting to this group.
