i am almost reluctant to write this review because i want this home to be my little secret. but...if you are looking for a place to hang your hat in berkeley, this should be it. the home is gorgeous--comfortable, beautifully appointed, immaculate and thoroughly graceful. the neighborhood is beautiful and fun to walk. a few coffee shops, a breakfast place, and a terrific local grocery shop is all within a few blocks. parking can be problematic, but walking is delightful. this is a wonderful VRBO listing.
Recommended for:Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Having celebrated our son's graduation from Berkeley at 36 Domingo, we highly recommend this home as a place to have a relaxed, cozy gathering. The house is lovely, beautifully decorated, and is equipped with everything one needs to serve a formal or casual dinner. The owners have thought of everything. We were welcomed with delectable bakery goods, fine coffee and wine, and fruit. The bedding, thick bathrobes and towels made us feel as if we were staying in a five-star hotel, yet with the comforts and conveniences of a home. The owners were responsive to our needs and went out of their way to ensure that we had a delightful stay.
Recommended for:Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

The house was beautiful, well-appointed and in a lovely location. We visited Berkeley for a family member's graduation. The location allowed us to walk to the ceremony, and to have the extended family over for a glass of wine to celebrate. It is a lovely place. Highly recommended.

Our family visited on spring break and was absolutely thrilled with our accommodations. The home is just beautiful and wonderfully located. Bill & Kathy are adorable! They had wine & strawberries for the adults as well as milk and cookies for the kids waiting upon our arrival. It was so much better than any 5 star hotel we have stayed in. Plenty of room and you are not on top of each other. At the end of the day, everyone can spread out and relax. The home was beautifully decorated, very clean and the linens were luxurious as well as plenty of down pillows provided (a must)! It truly was first class. When I booked it, I was a little concerned about not being right in San Francisco, however, we were thrilled that we were not. Berkeley is the most darling, quaint, charming, bohemian community and it was nice to not be in the middle of the chaotic city. However, it is close to San Francisco that you could be over the bridge in 15 minutes. We loved the whole experience! Our only disappointment was that we could not spend more time getting to know Bill & Kathy. They are a fun couple and make you feel so welcome. We will definately go back! We highly recommend this property!

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have three wonderful weeks in Febrruary at 36 Domingo. Berkeley was our destination so we could enjoy the performances at Cal Performing Arts which is a short drive from Domingo. Because of a flight delay we arrived late in the evening and were delighted to find all the ingredients of a wonderful breakfast for the next morning. We are frequent users of VRBO and agree that 36 Domingo is the best we have found and an excellent value given the superb quality of the accomodations and furnishings. Kathy answered our many questions and provided outstanding suggestions for meals and shopping. We hope to return and have the pleasure of enjoying such fine hospitality.

We're a Family from Spain. We stayed at Claremont for 10 days in July 2010. The house was really nice, clean and well equipped. The owners were really friendly and eager to help us in every way they could. The neibourghood was really pleasant. We definitively recommend the house and we'll repeat if we ever go again to SF.

This gorgeous home in Berkeley's ultra-prestigious Claremont district is beautiful and elegant without being stuffy. The apartment is very comfortable, roomy and impeccably maintained; it was like walking into a recently renovated home, just detailed by an army of professional housekeepers. The kitchen and dining facilities are head and shoulders anything we've ever seen in a vacation rental and ready for the gourmet chef. Even the pots and pans are high end. The king size bed in the master bedroom is very comfortable and practically new. Flat-screens and full cable are in both bedrooms and the living room, and wifi internet worked well. The location is ideal, walking distance to College avenue for restaurants (Wood Tavern and Olivetto's are great) and Star Market for groceries and butcher shop. Getting on the highway (24) is also a breeze (7 minutes, tops), so SF during non-rush hour never took us more than 20 minutes. Walking to the Rockridge BART with direct service to SF and SFO takes about 15 minutes so a car is not strictly necessary (although having one makes life so much more comfortable). The icing on the cake are the landlords, who really do whatever it takes to accommodate their guests. We enjoyed every day we spent at 36 Domingo.

This is a wonderful little gem--no attention to detail is spared at this luxurious, spotless, beautifully decorated two bedroom suite, complete with full dining room, wonderful kitchen, and delightful sunroom. The owners have created a soothing, high-class environment--a perfect home away from home. You are in a wonderful neighborhood and in walking distance to some great local hangouts--top-notch shopping and dining. This trumps my stay at any other venue in Berkeley by a long shot, including the Claremont with all its amenities.

We were lucky enough to have an extended stay here with our toddler aged son and we couldn't have been more happy. The house is a perfect mix of modern upgrades and historical Claremont District charm as it was lovingly restored by the owners to their own high standards. The location couldn't be any better. You can walk to Rockridge, the shops on College, BART and the campus; while the Gourmet Ghetto is only a quick bike ride or drive away. In addition, freeway access is convenient which makes it easy to get to the City by car if you don't want to take BART. The owners are now like family to us and my son still asks about them a year after we departed. Since the rental is a separate unit from the owners' residence, it offers the perfect combination of privacy and discretion, but you will be welcomed you like a family member if you want to get to know them. After years of staying at the Claremont Hotel, we can tell you that the suites there feel like a low budget motel compared to this place and they are more expensive. I only wish we had found it sooner. We will never stay anywhere else when we travel to the Bay Area.

We stayed at this lovely home for two weeks while our home was being remodeled and were delighted with everything about it. It was even nicer than the description and photos. The owners were helpful, flexible, and accessible. The home is immaculate, elegant but comfortable, and well equipped. The furnishings, decor, and furniture are tasteful and upscale. The neighborhood is one of Berkeley's nicest, and the home is on a quiet street, close to coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, and the spa at the Claremont Hotel We would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly as a getaway or home away from home and a much preferable alternative to a hotel.

I had the good fortune to stay at this property for one week with my family. It was a delight. It is a spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed home in a lovely residential neighborhood. The house has recently undergone a complete renovation so everything feels fresh, clean and bright. Kathy added so many wonderful and thoughtful details -- soft fluffy towels in the bathroom, fresh flowers in the dining room, and wonderful local coffee in the kitchen. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 12.
