This is the perfect vacation spot whether you're traveling thousands of miles or simply doing a stay-cation in Western Washington. Located on rural Vashon Island--situated strategically in Puget Sound between the cities of Seattle & Tacoma, this beautiful waterfront cottage allows you to soak up the rhythms of the forest & the sea and yet be close to the urban attractions of the area. Observe the rich bird life on land and the salmon, seals, porpoises and occasional whales as they swim & play in the waters at your front door.
The cottage is totally private from its neighbors but open to the sea. It has a cirque of large Douglas fir & Madrona trees to the north & east and is open to the view of Puget Sound, the Point Defiance Preserve and Gig Harbor to the south and southwest. All of the day rooms and one of the bedrooms afford views of the sound and of the small ferry, Rhododendron, which makes the run between Vashon and Pt Defiance each hour during the day. The cottage is hidden from the street above and affords wonderful privacy. At low tide you can cruise the beach and reward yourself with awesome views of Mt Rainier. Meteorologists will tell you that this sunny southern location gets an average of 10 inches less rain per year than the northern part of the island.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO TO THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW AND READ WHAT PAST GUESTS HAVE SAID ABOUT THIS COTTAGE.
The 1100 sq ft cottage was completely renovated over the last several years and offers a two-level 600 sq ft deck, a beautiful bath and lovely bedrooms in addition to the charming kitchen, living & dining rooms. The waterfront is reached by descending the steps to the property’s bulkhead and stony beach.
During the day you can observe the hummingbirds, tanagers, herons, eagles & other seabirds, along with the plentiful sealife. At night listen for the sounds of the animals drifting across the silence of Puget Sound from the Pt. Defiance Zoo. Beyond its natural beauty, Vashon Island also offers a thriving arts community and everyday amenities such as an excellent supermarket, bakeries and numerous restaurants. This is truly a splendid spot where you can relax on the shores of Puget Sound but be close to everything on island and from Olympia to Seattle.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description

I've been living in Western Washington state for most of the last 25 years. In my family, we've always loved the feel of islands. In the summer, my siblings and I are all living surrounded by water in places varying from eastern Canada to the Big Island of Hawaii. For me there's no place better than Vashon.
Why the Owner Chose Vashon Island
When I first set foot on the property a friend was living here. As I sat on the steps going down to the water, soaking up the sun, breathing in the sea air and taking in the view, I thought the spot an absolutely perfect getaway. I still do. And our guests always remind us about just how special it really is.

If you want to have an amazing treetop view of Puget Sound, this is the place for you! Whether lounging on one of two decks or window viewing from inside this cozy cottage, you will be drawn into the beauty and peace of this special place. On the second day of our three week stay, we were thrilled to sight an orca...then two...then 4!!! surface. We were graced with this magnificent show while sitting on the deck! Needless to say, we were charmed! If you want to experience owners who are welcoming, responsive and respectful of your stay, Bruce and Tom qualify! We delight in our memories and are grateful for the experiences offered us during our stay on Vashon Island

There just are no right words. We rented this cottage for an entire month and never wanted to leave. It was comfortable, private, tidy, nicely decorated, and perfectly situated on the "quiet" end of the island--- right on the shore so we could watch the ferry glide past during the daytime. Pride of ownership is apparent everywhere on this property, but particularly in the outdoor spaces. Two large decks overlook the water and they are beautifully adorned with potted plants and flowers as well as comfortable deck furniture.Vashon is special and this cottage is even more so. We can't wait to return!

My daughter, sister and myself stayed in this cottage for a week in July. I have never had such a peaceful vacation. If you want to get away relax, read and just look at the beautiful surroundings, this is the place for you. It has everything that you could possibly want from a dishwasher, laundry facilities and a great kitchen. We spent alot of time on the deck day and night looking out on the Peugeot Sound. My favorite spot in the house is the window with the bed. I spent many a night with my laptop looking out the window at the beautiful sunsets. Vashon Island is great. Lots of nice places to eat and a well stocked grocery store. We picked up fresh veggies from the farmer's market every day for our dinner. I am already wishing I was back there. You wont be disappointed if your looking for a beautiful relaxing vacation. We are already looking forward to going back hopefully next summer.

This cottage has come to feel like our home away from home. We have stayed for a month the last 3 years and plan to stay again this year. The house is perfect -warm and cozy and surrounded with such beauty. Our children have named the Heron that lives in one of the trees. We have watched sailboat races, migrating salmon and whales and of course the ferry from the wonderful decks. The island has beautiful beaches, hikes, places to swim and perfect bike rides. We can't think of anywhere we would rather be!!!!

What can I say but that this cottage is THE PERFECT place to relax and get away from it all! The interior has a rustic, warm and comfy feel throughout. The modernizations and upgrades made over the years have been done masterfully to preserve the original cottage ambiance. Our favourite part is reading or napping in the wood-paneled sleeping nook that has a full view of the water and across to Tacoma's Pt. Defiance park. The spacious kitchen is well stocked with utensil and gadgets. The island has a fairly wide variety of restaurant to chose from, but if you like to cook, there's a fantastic market in town, replete with local organic produce, rare cheeses, artisan breads and a superb wine selection that you will want to bring back to the cottage and make a wonderful feast of all the northwest bounty, served al freco on the large terrace off of the dining room. The built-in bookcases are stocked with interesting books but If you feel the need to access the outside world, the cottage has a free WiFi internet and lovely LDC TV with DCD player. When you’re at this cottage, you won’t want to leave! It’ truly a bit a heaven on earth. I can’t wait to return!

We just returned from this cozy cottage on the South side of Vashon Island and felt compelled to underscore the highlights of our wonderful six night stay before Christmas. Location, location, location! The views from this cottage perched above the sound give one the feeling of being in a treehouse with all the modern amentities of a vacation cottage. We opened and closed our days with spectaculars views from almost every window, (even a view from the antique claw footed tub in the wonderfully rennovated bathroom). Some of these views included a wide variety of bird life, a sea otter and pods of Orca whales seen from a Tahlequah ferry excursion. The ferry is located just down the hill from the cottage and quietly qlides to and fro adding to the serene vantage point found in a small, cozy, window box style day bed. In addition to the comfort and relaxation experienced at the cottage the island of Vashon has much to offer - kind, compassionate, helpful residents, a winery, a great downtown coffee house, bakery and well stocked grocer. We will return again with great anticipation!
