EL VALLE, PANAMA
Cabanas Potosi, with mountain views of El Valle de Anton and the Sleeping Indian Mountain, is a 28 year old family business remodeled in July 2009. The cabins are nestled at just under 3000 feet above sea level, 30 minutes from the Pan-American highway (28km), in the world's second largest extinct shield volcanic crater. It is a lot cooler than the coastline with temperature in the upper 60's at night. The crater, created 75,000 years ago, is four kilometers wide and 2 kilometers across. (2.4 x 1.2 miles) El Valle is the (HOME OF 311 SPECIES OF BIRDS), golden frogs, square trees, Chorros El Macho and Las Mozas (Water Falls), La Piedra Pintada (Pre-Columbian rock cravings), Mercado (Crafts Market), El Gaital (national nature park), El Nispero (Zoo and Amphibian Conservation Center)), Pozos Termales (hot springs), Museo de El Valle (Historical Museum), Aprovaca Orquideas (Orchard Gardens), Canopy Adventure (Jungle Zip-Line Swing), mountain hiking, and horseback riding. There are no fast food establishments here but there are many family owned restaurants with typical food and drinks that cost between $3-$25. Many retired people are starting to relocate to El Valle where your alarm clock is the songs of birds and roosters.

Why the Owner Chose El Valle de Anton (Crater Valley)
We purchased the property from Mireya's mother, Patria, in 2003 and have since retired to Panama to manage Cabanas Potosi. Also, Mireya has three brothers who have homes near by. One of her brothers, Mario Bernal, is a national well know ecotourism and bird watching guide in Panama. He can be introduced to you if you care for his services. He charges $40 for a halfday of birdwatching here in El Valle.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
The main benefit of Cabanas Potosi is laying in a soft hammock or sitting in a comfortable patio chair with a good book enjoying the sounds of nature which surround you 24 hours a day. Also, the cabins are within a mile of the market, gas, ATM, resturants, etc. Come and have your alarm clock be the blue parakeets of the valley.

What a beautiful place this was to stay. Going to bed and waking up in the morning to sounds of nature, crickets, owls, birds etc. And then the mountain view. Lying in the hammock observing all the birds flying around was amazing. Dennis and Mireya, thank you, thank you, for such a wonderful experience, your friendship and so much help you gave me. Mireya is a world of knowledge of the area and introduced me to some interesting people. Thanks also for taking me to see the parade and village festivities. So appreciate everything you did for me. And I definitely want to come back and spend more time in the beautiful El Valle and especially at your cabanas. Many many thanks Jennifer, USA

We had a wonderful time at Cabanas Potosi. It is the perfect place to stay in El Valle - only a few minutes away from the main street but far enough to feel like you're worlds away from anywhere else. There is so much to do in and around the area that we didn't want to leave. The beds were comfortable, the rooms spacious, and the grounds beautiful. The owners are wonderful people who are friendly and welcoming and ready to help or offer advice when needed. Definitely stay here!

I enjoyed the accomodations, hospitality and genuine home grown warmth of the bungalos. The total adventure exceeded all our expectations and we had the time of our lives. We were able to take part in numerous tours and nature hikes, bird-watching and enjoyment of the uncluttered natural resources of the surrounding rain forest and gardens. I particularly enjoyed interaction with the native populace and their genuine pride in their wares and the abundance and availability of vegetation.
Owner response:Thank you and appreciate your kind thoughts about your stay at Cabanas Potosi. Please come and see us again soon.

These cabanas are more beautiful than pictures can show, so is El Valle de Anton! The owners/ workers were incredibly helpful, and went beyond any expectations to insure we saw everything we wanted to see while visiting the town. The owner picked us up from the bus station downtown, gave us a quick tour of the town to get us acquainted with surroundings like restaurants, stores, etc. Then, we arrived at the cabanas, where he hung a hammock outside our cabin, and we were instantly relaxing in the beauty of the mountains. the next morning, we were treated to coffee they grow and roast themselves The morning after they went well above and beyond expectations and drove us to Santiago and made sure we were able to get to our next destination safely. I love these cabanas, these people, and El Valle de Anton!!!
Owner response:Muchas gracias por su linda observacion. We are happy that you love everything about Panama. Best wishes in your narriage and remember to say to each other ¨Te quiero un Potosi´¨. Until we see you again. Love to hear from you from time to time. Carinos Mireya and Dennis and Connet

I wanted to thank you for such a lovely stay. We came about 3 weeks ago and spent two nights at Cabanas Potosi and were thrilled by the clean, nice rooms, the quiet, beautifu setting, and the gorgeous views...as well as the affordable price. I also wanted to ask if you could give me the name and/or telephone number of the art gallery/cafe that is across the street from the gourmet coffee shop? Thank you, looking forward to next time.
