Amazing place to get away from it all

This property is my crew's favorite vacation spot. My husband, our two teenage children, and another adult couple first visited in July of 2008 and were in awe of the setting. Kayaking around the cove and then to the lobster pound and beyond was a relaxing daily activity. Searching for blueberries, both on property and along the many hiking trails was great too--as was checking out the island. The best part of it all was coming back to the house to play boardgames or read on the deck as we watched the boats return and the fog roll in. Cooking in the kitchen was a pleasure too--it's a great space...and very well stocked. Having two living spaces (one by the fireplace in the center of the house and one behind the kitchen where there was a big tv for watching movies) was great. Since we were warned that there was no big grocery store on the island, we stocked up carefully--but we still forgot some things and ran out of others. Lucky for us the little store is very well prepared. They had everything we needed--and they usually had a choice of brand and type. Amazing. There were also great places to get lobster, scallops, and clams--so we brought them back to the house and had some fabulous dinners. We wanted to come back the next year, but the week we were available, the house was not. We went somewhere else that year and throughout that vacation I repeatedly heard, "this place is nice...but I miss the log cabin by the lighthouse". Schedules worked out last year...and we returned to Lighthouse Lodge. The house and island were as wonderful as we remembered. We again had a truly memorable vacation. In short, the house is clean, comfortable, well stocked, and beautiful. The view is gorgeous. The surrounding property is breathtaking. You're in the middle of nowhere...but there's so much to do. The homeowners are helpful--and make sure that you have everything you need to have a great time. We love this place.

Terrific spot

We stayed here last year for a family wedding on the island. This house was much bigger than it looks in the pictures, with separate space (e.g. a smaller living room off beyond the kitchen) that worked well for the kids and grown-ups to have own space. Kitchen large and well equipped. Place was absolutely spotless and nicely decorated in a plain and spacious way. Large deck which would have had wonderful views of the lighthouse except that we were fogged in most of the time. We sat out there anyway and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The house is quite far from the road, so is perfect if you want isolation. The only minor issue for some might be the fact that there seems to be little or no insulation between the floors, so privacy could be an issue. The owners were very professional and pleasant to deal with, and responded quickly and helpfully to all my questions about the house and location.
