Location: Dominical, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, Central America

Accommodations:  Villa, 2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)

Dominical, an easy-going beach town on the southern Pacific Coast, has always been a favorite destination for both surfers and those visitors seeking an authentic Costa Rican experience. Here the mountainous rainforest meets the ocean, creating an array of adventures and activities. Beaches are ideal for both surfing and relaxing, while jungle hikes, canopy tours, wildlife refuges, horseback riding, snorkeling, sport fishing and everything else you’d want to experience in Costa Rica are all right here (see below for more detail).

The sights and sounds our brand new Canto Del Mar (Song of the Sea) villa will leave you awestruck. This small vacation community is comprised of terraced villas set on the lush hillside, with a backdrop of mountains in every shade of green. Alluring sights and sounds of the ocean are visible from almost any room in this two bedroom, two story freestanding condo. Walk to the beach or hike in the jungle right from your front door, where it’s not unusual to encounter monkeys, sloths and other Costa Rican wildlife.

Finished in December 2007, the fully equipped villa has expansive views from every room with floor to ceiling windows. A large outdoor terrace with thatched “palapa” roof and plunge pool creates an ‘outdoor living room’ from which to experience the lush rainforest and breathtaking ocean views.

Ceramic tile floors are found throughout with decorative brickwork and exposed concrete accents at the French door entrance. The spacious dining and living areas are filled with natural light, while the well equipped kitchen is complete with granite counter tops, solid wood cabinets and all cookware needed. Both bedrooms include brand new linens plus upscale master baths with dual sinks, custom solid wood cabinets, marble counter tops, and tile showers and tub surrounds. Additional features of the villa include air-conditioning, flat screen TV & entertainment center, and laundry room with washer and dryer.

Getting to Dominical

Two commuter airlines, Nature Air and Sansa, leave from San Jose, Liberia and other towns in Costa Rica to either the Quepos Airport which is about 1 hour North of Dominical or to Palmar Sur which is about 40 minutes South of Dominical.

The drive from San Jose is 3 ½ to 4 hours drive depending on the route. It’s 3 ½ hours if taking the mountain road through San Isidro de General. The coastal route through Jaco and Quepos is 4 hours.

Manual Antonio National Park – Well-groomed trails wind their way through this 1,687-acre park, home to 100 species of animals, nearly 200 species of birds, and all three species of monkeys found in Costa Rica. Off shore waters give snorkelers views of fish that are every color of the rainbow. Visitors are limited to 600 people during the week and 800 on weekends.

Chirripo National Park – Chirripo, the country’s highest peak (3,820 meters/12,530 feet), rises up near the entry to the National Park. A strenuous trek, which most hikers accomplish in two to three days, leads to the top. Other hikes from the base camp lead to lakes and alpine meadowlands.

Ballena National Marine Park – This park, primarily ocean, is home to the Pacific coast’s largest coral reef. Humpback whales often swim past Ballena Island between December and April and several types of sperm whales are also sighted near Tres Hermanas (three sisters) Islands. From May to November, Olive Ridley and Hawksbill turtles nest on the beaches.

Corcovado National Park – Stunning waterfalls and the country’s largest tract of virgin forest are some of the attractions found in the park with its 54,540 hectares (of land) and 2,400 hectares (of sea). The park is located in one of the world’s most biologically diverse regions. At least 400 species of birds, 140 species of mammals, 116 species of amphibians and reptiles, 500 species of trees, and 6,000 species of insects inhabit the park, including scarlet macaws, jaguars, pumas, tapirs, poison-dart and golden frogs, the harpy eagle, and other endangered species.
