My husband and I rented the cabin for Valentines Day. I had always been a Summer visitor to New Braunfels/Gruene. I must say that we were pleasantly surpised at how nice it was this time of year. The cabin was lovely....enjoyed waking early and watching the sun come up. Deer were happy to put on a show for us. Quiet, lovely winter getaway.

What a wonderful place to stay and experience Gruene.

We loved this cozy cabin. Much attention has been paid to details that made our stay so enjoyable. The bed was very comfortable so we were able to start each day rested and refreshed. The location made for a nice walk into town and the grounds were so inviting we enjoyed our mornings and afternoons taking in the view and observing the abundant wild life. This will be our first choice accommodations on our next trip to the area.

It was the perfect size and very cozy. We loved the view and enjoyed the fire pit. It is the perfect location to relax but have the option to go shopping and eat close by. We appreciated the restaurant recommendations and tried several of them. We hope to return soon!

This is a very quaint place to stay. It is small but more than adequate for a couple of nights. The host is very attentive and responsive to questions. The surroundings are amazing if enjoying the river is on your agenda. Please note that we didn't feel walking into downtown Gruene was feasible in the dark along the roads, but the drive is less than 5 minutes. We would stay again!

Just What We Were Looking For

Guest: Patty (Tyler, Texas)
Date of Stay: 11/08/11 Review Submitted: 11/11/11

We are so glad we found this cabin. We wanted a special, reasonably priced place to stay in Gruene for our anniversary, and this little place is perfect. The cabin is just right for two, and just a short stroll down to the river, which was beautiful. The grounds are lovely with a fire pit, and great little seating areas. Chris really has gone out of his way to make sure anything you need is there, from coffee to little log fire starters WITH a "clicker," to WiFi. We couldn't believe the number of deer we saw on the road to the cabin, so "drive carefully!" Also, the cabin is a very short drive to either Gruene, New Braunfels, or San Marcos. The location is great. Did a lot of dancing to a great band called "The Georges" at Gruene Hall, our favorite place ever (happy hour 4 - 7 weekdays w/$1.75 beer!) We loved our stay at the Historic Gruene River Cabin and we will definitely be back. Patty & Greg from Tyler, Texas

Perfect for Two

Guest: Carolyn Poirot (Fort Worth, TX)
Date of Stay: 11/04/11 Review Submitted: 12/08/11

We loved this cute little mostly-glass cabin with its big windows that bring the beautiful outdoors indoors while a cedar fence maintains perfect privacy. We have stayed in Gruene many times, and this has by far the prettiest views of the river, only about a mile from the center of town. Two kayaks are part of the package, and stepping stones provide easy access to the Guadalupe. We were there in November, and want to go back when the weather is a little warmer and the water a little deeper.

We stayed in this neat, clean, cozy Cabin on the Guadalupe River, for 3 nights this Summer. The owners have thought of everything - King size bed, coffee service, firewood, charcoal, disposable dinnerware, etc., even a 2 person kayak! We had a blast walking to Gruene (esp. Gruene Hall), kayaking in the Guadalupe, and fishing (even caught some catfish for the grill - yum!) Thanks for everything! We'll definately be back soon!

This is the second time my wife and I have enjoyed extended birthday weekends at this guest cabin. Great entertainment, shopping and restaurants are only minutes away in Gruene, and that makes "wifie" happy! Trophy rainbow trout fishing is only 100 feet away and that makes me happy! If you are looking for GREAT trout fishing and a wonderful historic TX destination, you've got to experience this cabin on the Guadalupe River.

My wife & I stayed in Gruene March 5-7 '11. The cabin was just what we were looking forward to for a relaxing weekend getaway to celebrate her birthday. Had a nice fire in the pit saturday night and enjoyed some local wine. Pretty secluded for privacy with the river access you can't beat it. There is a large home on the same property which you would have to share the river access with but, we were lucky enough to have the whole property to ourselves. The cabin does have a privacy fence around it. Great place for a weekend getaway or more if you can. We also enjoyed Gruene and Randy Travis at Gruene Hall. If you haven't enjoyed a concert or friday or saturday night at Gruene Hall you haven't experienced Texas! We hope to make it back soon.

We are in the process of moving to the area from New Mexico and decided rather than stay in a cold hotel we would rent this quaint cabin and we were not disappointed! It is in such a beautiful area and Chris is a wonderful host that made sure that we were never in need of anything. He sent us recommendations for local restaurants (The Gristmill is a must!) and things to see in the area. It took away the stress of house hunting every night when we came back to the tranquility of the cabin and the fire pit at night staring up at the stars and the moon. Waking up to birds chirping and squirrels scurrying around was great...the wild turkeys startled me a bit, but it was fun to see! This was the best decision that we ever made! Aside from the house hunting stress it was like a second honeymoon for us. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a get away!

My husband and I spent our 2nd Valentine's Day weekend at the cabin and had a wonderful time (again!) Just like last time, everything was so convenient, clean, peacefull and relaxing. Chris does a wonderful job of making recommendations (even though we're local, it's great to hear about someone else's favorite places) stocking firewood and just ensuring everything is easy. We plan on trying to make it back at least once a year to stay in the cabin. This is the PERFECT little getaway for any couple!

Date of Stay: 10/29/10 Review Submitted: 11/04/10

For the price you can do better than this. My husband and I were looking for a quiet relaxing weekend getaway and did not find it here. The cabin is a guest house to a bigger rental property. You share a driveway with this house and parking area. From the shared driveway you can see directly into the cabin even with the shades drawn. The bigger house had a group of people in it and we could hear them all weekend. You do not feel like you have your own private space. but instead like you are staying in someone else's yard. To get to the river from the cabin you have to walk past the bigger house and through their front yard. The cabin is one small room with carpet, a very small tv (probably 17 inches), and a faux fireplace. It seemed clean, but smelled musty (luckily the weather was perfect so we were able to open the windows) There is a set of small stairs that leads into the tiny bathroom where the fridge and microwave are. There is a small pedestal sink, toilet, and a tiny shower. I have traveled all over Europe, but this is the smallest shower I have ever seen. I am 5'8" and I barely fit. My husband is 6'4" and he just had to do without a shower all weekend. Pay special attention to the fact that there are no pictures provided of the cabin's interior except for the one picture of the bed and the faux fireplace. The yard area with the fire pit is between the house and the driveway on one side and the road and the bigger house on the other, not very private at all. Our first night there we had trouble with the toilet. The owner had stated many times to not hesitate to call him for any reason so he called to see if he had any suggestions. He did not answer and did not return our call at all. We had to turn the water off to the toilet to keep it from running all night. We also sent the owner an email the day after departing but never received a response. We did enjoy taking the kayak out on the river for some fishing. However, for the amount we paid we expected more and were let down. There are plenty of rental properties in the area and I am sure you can find something a better. I would only recommend this cabin if you are also renting the bigger property as well.

Owner response:To our "guest", from Houston, Texas - If you are going to submit a review for a property, please make sure that you correctly identify the VRBO property # correctly before submitting! We neither recognize you as a Guest of ours, nor do you describe the property accurately. Apparently you stayed at some other property and mistakenly posted this review with our property number. If you had chosen our property, we're certain you would have had a better experience!

We had a wonderfully quiet stay at the cabin. There were guests in the large house but the privacy and seclusion of the cabin was perfect. We took advantage of the kayaks provided for a nice paddle up the river (we didn't see another person on the trip). It was beautiful. We experienced phenominal dining in Gruene and New Braunsfels. Great suggestions were shared by the owner. Myron's Prime Steakhouse is the bomb! Definitely recommended.

We enjoyed our stay in the cabin. We needed a peaceful getaway. We never heard a thing from the house on the same property. The cabin was smaller than we expected, and for some reason we thought it had a kitchen. However we grilled so it wasn't a big deal. Although it was small it had lots of big windows, and had privacy behind a tall cedar fence. A nice plus was the kayak. Trolling the river we caught our supper one night. We grilled it with cajun seasoning, it was delicious. Thanks!

The cabin was just what we needed. There was no pressure to go and do anything. Plenty of R and R. So we read our books by the river and grilled steaks at night. Oh yea, we used the kayaks too that was fun. We visited the little city of Gruene and enjoyed the great little shops. We had a great time. Just what the doctor ordered. We shall visit again one day, maybe get several others and stay in the big house which looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing your wonderful little cabin with us. The fire ring was great too. Very romantic at night to watch from inside the cabin.

You will find this little gem well appointed for two, just right for an overnight. The owners are super at communicating before, during and after. Inside and out, you feel hugged by shade trees, and the garden view from the comfortable king bed is lovely day or night. Cooling off in the river was great, just a few feet away. The details in this small space make it special.

We stayed for two nights in May. The place is cozy and the space is utilized well. The decor is nice. the owners even have a coffee bar set up for your morning enjoyment! The owner was easy to converse with and quick on responding. I would recommend the Gruene cabin for a romantic getaway. My fiancee did have some trouble standing in the stand-up shower, but it was not a big deal, for he is fairly tall.

In April we spent five nights of quiet and solitude in the immaculate little cabin on the beautiful Guadalupe River. We could easily imagine we were in a tree house being surrounded by the trees and foliage. If possible we shall make a return visit.

WOW! I cant say enough great things about this place!! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful wonderful time! The location is just amazing.. and the access to the river was great! We took the kayaks for a stroll up and down the river and we had a blast! Then back to the cabin for a sweet romantic evening. Quiet and Peaceful! We will definitely be coming back very very soon!! I highly recommend this cabin for those that just want to get away from the city life!!

I am so glad we chose this property. We needed a clean, quiet, cozy get away from the city and we were not disappointed. The very private cabin is tucked behind a beautiful main house on a fabulous piece of Guadelupe River Front. A great deal of thought and effort are put into creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It was a very restful, refreshing weekend. I plan to recommend this property to friends and family and I would love to stay again.

We stayed two wonderful days and nights in the cabin. It was very clean, very private and had the perfect location on the river. The owner provided excellent restaurant suggestions and we enjoyed great meals out in town just 3 or 4 miles away. We look forward to coming back soon and would highly recommend it. Enjoy!

This is a great little cabin on a great property. It's incredibly clean, cozy, and well stocked. Once the bridge is back in, it will be hard to find a more convenient place for the money. HIGHLY recommended!
