Looking to get away to the mountains with your family? Tatonka Lodge is the perfect choice for large families, or groups, traveling together!

Our custom log home sits on a private 65 acre buffalo ranch. Enjoy viewing our buffalo when you drive in or stop by in the morning at feeding time! The cabin was completed in early 2008 and is over 3500 square feet, plenty of room for everyone to spread out. So, whether you are looking to hit the slopes at Cataloochee Ski Resort in Maggie Valley (only 12 miles away) or visit the Biltmore Estate in Asheville (only 30 minutes), there is plenty for everyone to do in The Great Smoky Mountains!

Tatonka Lodge, (Indian word for buffalo), is ideal for large families vacationing together because we have 2 master suites which each have private doors leading to the back deck with a fantastic mountain view.

Once inside, you will be in awe of the huge stone fireplace in the great room, surrounded by plenty of seating area for a large group. Also, rest assured the children will be well entertained downstairs in the game room where we have a life size chess set, pool table, air hockey, ping pong & foosball. Also enjoy an evening in our 8 person hot tub out back!

Children will love the hike through the woods to the brand new play area, The BC Corral! This custon designed area has everything from swings, zip line, slides, teeter toter, cargo nets, rock wall & even a horse shoe pit for the adults! The kids will love it here!

If you are looking for a quiet "get away from it all" retreat, this is it! Enjoy long hikes on the property, fishing on the Pigeon River (within walking distance from the log cabin) or take a trip into town to do some shopping or antiquing.

We are pet friendly, size doesn't matter!

Fun things to do: Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, Biltmore Estate, Ghost Town, hiking at Chimney Rock, tubing at Deep Creek, Fun Factory, Indoor skydiving, visit the Elk in Cataloochee Park, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Casino in Cherokee, slide down the rocks at Sliding Rock in the Pisgah National Forest, downhill skiing, snowboarding & tubing at Cataloochee Ski Resort, golf at Waynesville Country Club, Maggie Valley Country Club or Ironduff Golf Course!

We hope many wonderful memories will be made while vacationing at Tatonka Lodge!

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

While staying at Tatonka Lodge we feel you will really enjoy the peace & tranquility of being secluded on 65 acres. So many of our previous guest have wrote back & told us they had all these plans to sight see but then just loved hanging out in the cabin together enjoying the big game room & the children all love the uniquely designed playground as well as seeing the miniature horse, buffalo, goats & llamas.

Owner's Map of Maggie Valley

My brothers & my husband had shared a vision of expanding my fathers buffalo ranch when additional property became available to purchase. With all our knowledge & experiences combine we have built 3 log homes & have been renting them out since 2004. All the furniture in this cabin has been handmade by the wood on the property! Even the covered wagon bed, that was custom built my my father. Once my husband retires from the US Army in about 8 yrs our dream will be to build our log cabin on the property & be more hands on. God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to love being transplants from a very flat NY!

A Great Family Christmas

Guest: Sandy (Atlanta, Georgia)
Date of Stay: 12/16/11 Review Submitted: 01/03/12

Our family of 12 (8 adults and 4 children) gathered at the Tatonka Lodge for our Christmas holiday. We all agree that the Lodge will be a place that our family will frequent in years to come. It comes fully equipped with everything needed for a family retreat including a play ground that was a big hit with our grandchildren and a basement full of adult toys such as pooltable, table tennis, air hockey just to name a few. The outdoor hottub with the firepit was a favorite of all ages. Everything was as presented to us and we even got a chance to watch the buffalo being feed and take a ride on a pony. Thanks for a wonderful holiday vacation.

Owner response:Thanks Sandra, so glad you all had a wonderful Christmas at Tatonka Lodge! We would love to have you back anytime!

BEAUTIFUL cabin and view. Craftsmanship in everything,,, will still notice new things after days of arriving. Warm and inviting, heated tile in the bathroom, comfort on every level, kitchen fully equipped, grocery store close by. EXTREMELY clean and superbly kept up. Good place to mix teens and small children. Photos of property do not do it justice, have to see it to believe. Better love the company you are with because you are not going to want to leave!

This place is breathtaking! The lodge, the property, and all the special touches they took to make it feel like home, makes this a vacation that we will never forget. There was nothing spared when building this lodge is beautifully handcrafted and tastefully decorated to suit the season. I loved the heated tile floors, the bedding, the huge fireplace (w/ wood provided), the comfy furniture, and hot tub. The only problem was that we didn't have more time there.

Awesome Mountain Retreat

Guest: Chad (GA)
Date of Stay: 11/04/11 Review Submitted: 11/13/11

We took our college team to Tatonka Lodge and had a wonderful time. We also rented the Bison Overlook Lodge which is just down the hill. Both properties were beautiful and very well maintained. The hot tubs were clean and the space in each home was great. With 14 people in Tatonka and 8 in Bison Overlook we never felt cramped. The playground is awesome for kids and all ages enjoyed seeing the Buffalo up close. With pool, air hockey, ping pong and foosball there is plenty of entertainment. It had just rained so we were concerned about accessibility but we were able to get a minivan and a 15 passenger van to both locations. Last but not least, Cheryl is great to deal with. She was easy to contact, answered all of our questions and was prompt in returning our deposit.

A Great Way to Celebrate a Special Anniversary with Family!

Guest: Pam (Clemmons)
Date of Stay: 09/16/11 Review Submitted: 09/23/11

Our family of 12 stayed at the Tatonka Lodge to celebrate our parents' 50th Anniversary. There were 6 adults and 6 youth and plenty of space and activities to keep us busy. A lot of time was spent in the game room. The boys especially loved playing ping-pong and pool. We all enjoyed the hot tub and firepit in the evenings. We took a hike down the hill and saw various animals. It was nice to have two master suites. We meet some of the owners who were very friendly and Cheryl is great to work with too. I would stay here again.

Owner response:Thank you Erika for taking the time to write a review...I appreciate your kind words!

Beautiful Vacation in the Smokies!

Guest: Angela H. (Central NC)
Date of Stay: 08/13/11 Review Submitted: 08/31/11

My family consisting of myself and my husband, two children, and mother-in-law just returned from a memorable vacation in the Smokies, thanks in large part to our stay at Tatonka Lodge. When we arrived one of the first things that struck us, was the wonderful smell - the ENTIRE house smells of freshly cut wood. The wood is everywhere! We were just in love with all of the wood, one of my personal favorites were the TREES in the living room, yes I said TREES. There are entire trees used as support beams in the living room - Amazing! We were also very impressed by the cleanliness of the entire house. We felt very comfortable to take our shoes off and relax. Other features we loved were the game room and hot tub! We had so much fun soaking in the pristine hot tub after a fun day of sight seeing! We tried all of the various gaming tables, they were also a lot of fun! Trails around the property are very nice, and the playground was a HUGE hit with our children, as were the animals all around the property. Our youngest was given the opportunity to ride two of the miniature horses. Cheryl's parents Harriet and Harold were so hospitable to let her ride them. Suffice it to say, that was definitely a highlight of her trip, as well as ours. The location of Tatonka made it so easy to access all of the area attractions! We loved the Biltmore House and Cataloochee Valley in the Smokey Mountain National park. The many waterfalls in the area were magiacal! We also had a lot of fun travelling the area roads and just enjoying the scenic views. We drove quite a few miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it was truly breathtaking! We even made the drive to Dollywood - FUN, with an unexpected stop at the Forbidden Caverns on the way which was nice. We tried several of the local restaurants. The Stable Cafe at Biltmore was unique, although the food was not that impressive ( good pimento cheese though)! Sweet Onion had some decent dishes, but they were a little overpriced, and my husband who is a filet mignon conoisseur said that his tasted like a roast. The star of their show were the cheese biscuits - delicious! I am pretty sure that everyone's favorite restaurant was a place in Asheville called Papas and Beer. They serve amazing mexican food at wonderful prices! We enjoyed them twice during our stay! The enchildas pablanos is wonderful! I have to say that this was definitely one of our most memorable vacations to date! We can't wait for our next trip to Tatonka Lodge!!

Owner response:It was a pleasure having you & your family Angela, thank you for the kind words. We look forward to having you back again sometime.

AMAZING!!!!

Guest: Kalcounos Family (Florida and Maryland)
Date of Stay: 08/03/11 Review Submitted: 08/23/11

We had an amazing stay at the Tatonka Lodge. We had 12 people (7 adults and 5 kids). The lodge was in perfect working condition as well as being SO clean. We all wished that we stayed one more day just to enjoy the cabin. The owners were SO sweet and were easy to work with when we "city slickers" couldn't figure out how to turn on the hot tub (kind of ashamed to admit that). The animals around the lodge added additional excitement to the experience we were looking for. I would not only come back but I would recommend this lodge to anyone and everyone!!!!

Owner response:Thank you Andrew for your nice comments...glad to see you guys had a great time at Tatonka Lodge!

Best Vacation Ever!!

Guest: Maw Maw (grandmother of 3) (Raleigh, NC)
Date of Stay: 07/23/11 Review Submitted: 08/05/11

Our family has been visiting the Maggie Valley area since the early 90s. Of all the places we have rented, Tatonka Lodge is our favorite. The house is just beautiful...all the natural wood...the spaciousness...decor...cleanliness...well-stocked kitchen...game room...hot tub...playground...fishing/wading in the Pigeon River...the animals...each feature made it a fantastic vacation for each of us. Most of all we enjoyed staying at the cabin, but we did have a great day riding the train on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. We also had fun shopping in Maggie Valley and having a fantastic breakfast at Joey's Pancake House. The nine of us are already hoping to spend a future vacation week on the buffalo ranch.

Owner response:Marsha, it was wonderful having you at Tatonka Lodge...thank you for your kind words. Cheryl
