The guest house is nestled in the Puma Hills bordered by Pike National Forest overlooking the Tarryall River. From the picture window is a beautiful view of the river, our hay meadows and the mountains beyond.
Our guests can enjoy private fly fishing on the Tarryall River, hiking and biking and scenic views from every direction. There is a horseshoe pit and a campfire ring for warming your toes by the fire and viewing the endless array of stars. The guest house is clean, fully equipped and easily accessible.

In the evenings, guests like to relax on the patio with a refreshing drink while watching the river flow.
On occasion a herd of elk or mule deer and a small group of big horn sheep will graze in the meadows below. Eagles, blue heron and many other birds hunt, feed or raise their young in the riparian areas, and some evenings the coyotes will sing among each other.

If your interested in hunting, we offer self-guided hunting packages in areas 501, 500 and 50.

Jennifer & Steve were excellent hosts. They were very quick to respond to any questions. The property was spotless, the views were magnificent. The property is ideal for families, fishermen, & hunters. I can't think of any reason not to love this property. We had intended to see some of the area sites, but we were enjoying the property so much, that we did not want to leave. Thanks for sharing Switch & Roo, they were so much fun to watch. Jennifer & Steve you guys are the best, we will be back as soon as possible.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Secluded and quiet, yet only 7 miles down a paved road to town. The owners were EXTREMLY friendly and helpful. Although some burned areas were visible in the distance, it is a very pretty area. The house was nice, roomy, and well furnished/supplied. It is a working farm, so be aware that there is some traffic coming & going past the house (once or twice per day, nothing tragic). ATV/jeep trails are close by. The Tarryall Reservoir and waterfall are just a short drive away--the waterfall has a nice little swimming hole at the base of it. Having your own private stretch of the creek to yourself was especially nice. It was plenty warm to wade in and definitely populated with fish. Tubing was a bit of a challenge in Aug with the water being so low, but the nearby Platte River (5 miles away) offered a great tubing experience. The 2.4 miles of creek is broken apart in a few sections by barbed wire and dams; certainly not a big deal for anglers, a slight inconvenience for tubers. Overall, this ranch is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you are looking to get away from it all and enjoy the beauty of nature!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We took our 3 young kids here and had a fantastic time! They could run outside whenever they wanted, we were able to view tons of stars at night, and we even got to see some wildlife grazing by the river. Location was great. We liked the seclusion of the ranch but also made several day trips into Colorado Springs/Manitou (about an hour away) to see the Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, etc. Even the small towns nearby had cute restaurants and things to do. If we had our pick of time of year, we would probably prefer to visit in warmer weather as my husband enjoys fishing (a river runs right in front of the ranch). As it was, the kids had fun playing in the patches of snow that were left, and we all enjoyed hiking around the land. The house was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. We didn't feel the pictures did the property justice, even though they do make it look great. We only met one of the owners, Jennifer, and she was extremely helpful in both setting up our reservation and informing us of local sights we wouldn't want to miss. It was really the perfect family vacation, and we are recommending it to our friends should they visit the area!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is the second time we have stayed here, but it won't be our last. While the fishing was good, the privacy outstanding, the facilities spotless and in great repair, the owners are the best asset of the entire experience. They are the greatest....helpful in every way, from the handling of the rental agreements, right through making sure that every thing is provided and performs well that you need for your stay. Everything about this location is understated in the listing description. It is all better than advertised. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, private family vacation that includes fishing, swimming, rafting, wildlife and bird watching, and a lovable dog that never tires of retrieving. There is also horseback riding nearby.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

The home is everything listed and then some. Everything is as it should be; clean, cared for, well supplied, and away from everything. The location is spectacular. Although we picked what turned out to be not such a good time to fish the Terryall, the fishing on the Miracle Mile was outstanding and it's only about a 20 minute drive. The fishing is technical, so bring # 24 and smaller nymphs...and hope for some dry activity. There were 3 of us and we really enjoyed the house and especially the hospitality and welcoming of our hosts, Steve & Jennifer.....and if you want to meet a REAL cowboy, Steve is the real deal. We hope we'll be able to return and will always cherish the friendships made while there.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed at The Puma Hills River Ranch 5/27/11 - 5/30/11 and had the time of our lives! My boys (age 13 and 4) loved it. First, the house is amazing, very clean and comfortable. It is by far the nicest vacation rental we've stayed at. Next, the 2 plus miles of private river right out the door was great! You just don't get that anywhere. The river was our main activity, fishing, wading and just enjoying it. The kids (and me) loved it. Words can't describe how nice and peaceful it is. We did some hiking but didn't take full advantage of all the acres. We just didn't have that much time! At night the house was great, full kitchen stocked with everything we needed. When we were exhausted from the outdoor activities, the couch tv and dvd player was a great convenience to have. I can't say enough about this place, truly an amazing place to stay and a great price. We will be coming back again and again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our family wanted to find a "get away" from our busy life and planned a relaxing long weekend in the mountains. Our destination needed to be comfortable yet away from it all, surrounded by natural beauty. We investigated many options on VRBO and finally decided on Puma Hills River Ranch. And without a doubt, we were totally satisfied with our choice. Upon arrival we felt very welcomed by the owners and we immediately felt comfortable They were very knowledgable about the area from a historical perspective, gave us geographic information and what local wildlife to expect. They provided maps of the area and directions on where to find anything we needed. The actual location of the ranchhouse felt very private with majestic views overlooking the Tarryall River, beautiful pasture with a backdrop of rocky slopes and mountain peaks. We found the ranchhouse very modern and tastefully decorated with a well equipped kitchen. It opened into the living room area so we all felt together as we spent our time inside. An incredible picture window frames the river and mountains so we always could see our surroundings. There were 6 of us and the house felt roomy, 2 good sized bedrooms and an extra sleeping area. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept great. As we woke, we fixed breakfast and then headed out on a hike to explore the river and up into the slopes. Back for lunch, it was warm enough to sit outside in the sun watching the river. There are many areas of interest within a short drive, so we enjoyed one afternoon checking out nearby sites. We created our own great dinners every night, played cards and watched DVDs. Our choice for Puma Hills ranchhouse was perfect, we all felt totally relaxed, loved the entire weekend and plan to return in the spring to try some fly fishing and share the place with our friends. We definitely recommmend this getaway!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
