Restored 1959 Palmer and Krisel mid-century home. Many know of the tract (Racquet Club Estates) of these homes located in Palm Springs where hundreds of these homes were built. In 1959 Borrego Springs was just starting to find its own identity as a small mid-century oasis. La Jolla developers Fred Corey Jr.and John Wilhelm recognized the opportunity and hired Bill Krisel to provide designs for eight homes located just south of De Anza Golf Club in a tract that became known as the Golf Course Annex.
Sadly, many of these homes have been lost to remodels and neglect over the past 45 years, only a handful remain. This home was purchased in 2007 and was in total disrepair. The current owners have researched and restored this home to near original condition. Both bathrooms and kitchen contain all original tile and many original fixtures. The original Krisel designed "floating" cabinets have been restored with their Masonite sliding doors replaced.
The kitchen and both bathrooms remain in near complete original condition. Original tile was restored and most original fixtures remain. Original colors and finsish have been restored and retained wherever possible.
The home comes completely furnished with mostly period furnishings to compliment the architecture and original design. A 32 foot long pool was added by the current owner along with new patios and succulent plantings. Views to the west of Indian Head and to the north of Torro Peak complete the natural backdrop to the ½ acre lot.
Borrego Springs has recently begun to embrace its mid-century roots. In town you will find a quiet but unique commercial district with small single story storefronts mostly built in the 50's and 60's. De Anza Country Club is a short walk from the house. The course contains several fantastic custom homes designed by some of Southern California’s most notable architects including, William Cody, Henry Hester, Dick Zerbe and others.
Two bedrooms have queen sized beds the third bedroom is set up with a bunk bed for children. Maximum occupancy is 4 adults and 2 kids. |
