Secluded mountain house, sleeping 10, on 2 acres in the heart of Colorado summer and winter activities, near Buena Vista and Salida.

This house has an ideal location only 5 minute drive from Mount Princeton Hot Springs and with fabulous views from the deck onto the stunning Chalk Cliffs. In the summer you are only 1 mile from the Colorado Trail and in the midst of numerous hiking trails including many 14'ers for the hearty. The country's most rafted river, the Arkansas, is also just 15 minutes away with many outfitters in the area. It is also a world class fly fishing river. Kids and adults alike can fish in a pond and stream that you can walk to.

The ghost town of St. Elmo (15 minutes west) is fun including a place for the kids to feed chipmunks. St. Elmo is the starting place of many 4WD/ATV/snowmobiling trails. Mountain biking enthusiasts will love the many trails including one just outside our door and the famous Monarch Crest trail near Salida 30 minutes away. A horseback riding outfitter is 5 minutes away.

In the winter there are cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails just down the road. The ski resort of Monarch is about 35 minutes away with some of the best snowcat skiing in the state (and a gondola running in the summer). Copper Mountain is 1 hour and 10 minutes and Aspen can be reached in the summer in about 1.5 hours.

The house itself has three levels. On the top floor is a master suite with a queen bed, double bed and a bath. The main level has the kitchen, living area (with wood burning stove) and 2 bedrooms each with queen beds plus a full bath. The lower level has a large den with a TV viewing area and foosball table, a bedroom with a bunk bed, plus a 1/2 bath.

The house is set quietly amongst the pines with deer visiting almost every day. You can enjoy sitting around an outdoor fire pit, resting in a hammock or playing a game of horseshoes. Most people just love to sit on the deck and enjoy the views of the stunning Chalk Cliffs.

  • I hosted a group of out-of-state guests at this property in July 2008. Everyone had a great time, due to both the quality of the accommodations and the proximity to activities (horseback riding, rafting and fishing for my group). The owner was great to work with (pleasant and responsive). The overall "rental experience" exceeded my expectations, and I will seek to rent this property again in the future if the opportunity arises.

  • What a great quiet oasis from the hustle and bustle. Mule deer came right up to the house, and we touched a friendly doe!! The views are spectacular of the Chalk cliffs! My family went skiing at Monarch close by. The Snow was great. We went sledding in the afternoon and the hot springs in the evening. Ahh! One day we went snowshoeing right up the road ending at a beautiful view of Mt Antero. Next year I want to snowmobile at St Elmo. The house was very spacious, enough room for two big families. I have already made reservations for this summer when we plan to raft on the Arkansas River, go horseback riding, explore St Elmo, and of course relax at the hot springs.

  • Great cabin in the heart of the Rocky Mountains with lots of space and many amenities nearby. Great views of the awesome Chalk Cliffs from the 2nd floor deck. Go, just for the hot springs nearby! Also, hiking, horsebackriding, fishing and mountain biking to keep you busy. For those up to it, there are also plenty of 14'ers to climb in the area.
